I have been asking in a ticket about my character not appearing in the list to choose my posting character and received this reply.

I just got the chance to read over the follow ups about some ongoing issues with a character that still isn’t showing as available from the World of Warcraft forums. Given the circumstances and everything you’ve tried so far, the best option will be to submit a message on the customer support section of the forums so the appropriate forum moderators can investigate this further.
They then supply a link to the US forums Customer Support. I thought I’d try here first as this is where my character is, in the EU. I’ve tried everything I can from my end. Logging out, closing the browser, clearing cookies and saved passwords, using a different browser, even a different machine and on my phone too. It is 100% at your end.

I was wondering what can be done about it. The character is Dottie on Wrath Alliance Pyrewood Village. I used to post on it and it disappeared over a month ago, and have logged into it recently ingame and changed zones.

I know what the problem is, it’s having two realms with the same name. One for Classic Era and one for Classic Wrath and I can prove it.
Look at this post Unpopular Opinion- thread - #11 by Dottie-pyrewood-village that is a link to a post I made from Dottie (70) on Pyrewood Village in Wrath but it is showing as Dottie (10) on Pyrewood Village on Era.

If I understand correctly, the issue is that you’re not seeing Dottie (Lv10 on a LKC server) in your character list on the forums?

Dottie is a level 70+ human warlock on the Wrath realm of Pyrewood Village.
Another account created level 10 gnome warlock Dottie on the Era realm of Pyrewood Village.
Because the 2 characters and realms have the same names, the forum cannot differentiate between the two. Both are Dottie-pyrewood-village.
Now the OP’s posts show as level 10 gnome when actually they are 70+ human warlock.
The gnome belongs to another account and the OP cannot use it to post. And they used it in the past and were one of the most active contributors on the Classic forums.
The newly created gnome stile the identity of the previously created human character.
One solution could be to rename all duplicate realms. But it’s not ideal because all characters on the renamed realms will lose their previous posts. The forum will see them as new character.
Better solution in this case would be to check which is the newer character (the gnome in Era I assume) and to be flagged for rename.
No, it’s the other way round, all my posts from Dottie-Pyrewood Village (wrath) level 70 are appearing under Dottie-Pyrewood Village (Era) level 10 and Dottie-Pyrewood Village Wrath level 70 has disappeared altogether from my character list on the forums and when looking at her posts.

Actually I own both characters and Dottie Era level 10 has “overwritten” Dottie Wrath level 70 for the forums.
The solution as I see it is to make Pyrewood Village-Era and Pyrewood Village-Wrath appear as different realms on the forums and the links to their posts.
This happened on May 11th as that was when I swapped to my retail Dottie. This one I’m posting on.
This is the other Dottie on Era.
You seem to be posting on Dottie (LKC) on the CS forums. Is this only affecting the other sections?
Did you manually swap to Dottie (Era) to post the last message? And do you see Dottie (LKC) in your character list now?
I’m posting on Dottie-Thunderhorn (retail). I did swap to the level 10 to post but I have only made 3 or 4 posts with her before and the total is showing for the level 70 on LKC.
Dottie (LKC) is the level 70 and Dottie Era level 10 is the one I can post on.
When I look at my character list for the forums I see one Dottie “WoW Classic” and that is the level 10 Era one.

I see, thank you for the clarification. 
Then why don’t you just delete level 10 Dottie on Era Pyrewood Village? Then create another Dottie on the same Era Pyrewood Village realm but keep it under level 10 to prevent it from taking over your level 70 Wrath forum posting character and also to prevent another user from creating it and taking over your forum posting character. Then create another Dottie on another realm in the cluster if you actually want to level your Era character beyond level 9.
Why doesn’t your level 10 character have a hat?
This would be ideal but it should have been done when Era was created. Doing it know will cause all existing characters on the renamed realms to appear as “new”.
Well, to start with I shouldn’t have to. I was levelling it and took a break.
I know the realms are connected but why should I have to start again? It’s obvious the forums weren’t created for realms with the same name and it needs to be sorted out. Also the name might not be available on any of the other realms.
The problem needs to be solved for others too who don’t own both characters.
To solve your issue with your forum character. I find leveling to 10 quite easy and enjoyable even on Era. But because it’s not your fault, perhaps Blizzard can grant you a free character transfer.

Yes it does but I haven’t seen anyone else having the same problem.
We won’t ask players to delete their characters if there is an issue with the forums.

Of course not, it would be a huge scandal if you do. I can ask anything though and I can’t see any solution not involving a major forum rework.

Still not keen on deleting that gnome? Did you manage to reserve Dottie on the hardcore realms? If so your hardcore character can be your WOW Classic forum character.
I feel that someone else would just use the name and I would be back to square one. Both of my accounts are on one Battle.net so I can’t check if this will happen.
Yeah, I have it on both.
Can you choose your HC character for the forums? None of mine are above 10 yet so I can’t check. But you can’t get the hat on Hardcore or Era and it makes it easier to find my posts. I would use my Wrath version who also has the hat but I can’t select her since my Classic Era Dottie hit 10.
I told you earlier that immediately after you delete the level 10 create a level 1 to keep the name. Level 1 can’t be forum characters so after few days and logout and login the forum should return to using your Wrath character.
Yes you can. This is my hardcore character but I noticed that the forum does not display avatars for all hardcore characters. This probably will be fixed though because it affects all hardcore characters. And my pandaren monk didn’t display its avatar for many months before finally showing it not long ago.

Another reason to delete the Classic Era level 10 Dottie and use the Wrath version.
I just saw a post from your Classic character. How did you manage to get it fixed?
