Chat turned off message in game , Bug?

Chat has been turned off. There are regional regulations that affect this account. Chat features have been disabled by default. You can re-enable those features now, or decide to enable them later via the Chat Settings panel.

this is …New. Have you gotten allot of behavioral warnings in the past?

Also what region are you from?

I think that says it all.

Best guess is you got muted for abusing chat. Check your inbox you use to log in to battlenet.

I’m getting this too and imo it’s a bug. It’s not that we’re being muted by Blizzard admins, the setting is purely to protect minors and turns off all incoming chat.

As the OP states, it displays a dialog telling us that chat has been disabled and how to re-enable it if we want to.

The problem is, it does it EVERY time we log in, on /reload and sometimes just randomly while playing. And EVERY time we have to re-enable chat in the options. It’s really annoying!

It’s not the first time I’ve seen it. The mechanism isn’t new. It usually happens when I switch to playing on a different computer, but only happens the once. It’s only today that it’s started to happen all the time.

btw for me, this is Classic WoW on Classic Era servers

Not me , I don’t get it
I see others have posted similar issues .
So it’s time for a ticket
Some people troll huh and jump to conclusions ., well I had polite answer from a GM

Try saying something that isn’t rude or unhelpful , I’m getting the same message and it’s starting to get annoying . It’s quite obviously a bug brought on by the recent patch / downtime .

I’ve opened a ticket and it seems it’s on going 3 GMs were trying to resolve this issue for me one after another.

I’m not sure how much info GMs are aware of with issues like these , as I guess its the Devs who are responsible in some ways.

However I feel like I’m going around in circles as I have been replying as not resolved and have added info to the tickets.

I’ve tried to provide screenshoots which I can’t tell if they’ve been uploaded or not.
The last GM asked for screenshoots which I already did so I guess the previous screens did not upload.

And the last message from a GM was if he never read the previous messages from either the other GMs or myself.

So after seeing posts now about this I do think its a bug after that update Tuesday and no Dev or GM is acknowledging that there’s a bug

One thing to add , this bug is not effecting my Classic Cata , just classic era post the update

This is a major annoyance that isn’t affecting many people, so I imagine it won’t be fixed any time soon.

I’ve found a macro script that makes it easier to re-enable chat. Will make it 2 actions instead of 4!

/run local disable = not C_SocialRestrictions.IsChatDisabled() C_SocialRestrictions.SetChatDisabled(disable) ChatConfigFrame_OnChatDisabledChanged(disable) print(format("Chat: %s", disable and "Disabled" or "Enabled"))

Thanks to Elvenbane and Fizzlemizz for the script

You’ve got fancy quotes in your macro and it won’t work like that. I’ve fixed for you .

/run local disable = not C_SocialRestrictions.IsChatDisabled() C_SocialRestrictions.SetChatDisabled(disable) ChatConfigFrame_OnChatDisabledChanged(disable) print(format("Chat: %s", disable and "Disabled" or "Enabled"))

Thanks for the input . that script is great , I followed a GMs steps to try an resolve my issue , as always with any in game issue my first trouble shoot is to rename wtf and interface folders . now these days it seems cache folder is also required , so here is the GMs solution.

Don’t worry about it, I’m happy to try to fix that together so you can continue your gaming journey. Please apply the following troubleshooting steps. Before performing these steps, please temporarily uninstall any addon management software you are using. Addon managers will re-sync the data cleared by these steps.

  1. Completely exit World of Warcraft.
  2. Uninstall any addon managers to make sure they don’t re-add your removed addons.
  3. In the Blizzard Battle.net desktop application, click Options (the cogwheel next to Play button) and select Show in Explorer (Windows®) or Reveal in Finder (Mac®).
  4. Open the World of Warcraft® folder.
  5. Open the folder for the game version you’re troubleshooting (retail, classic_era, or classic).
  6. Rename the Cache, Interface, and WTF folders to CacheOld, InterfaceOld, and WTFOld.
  7. Re-launch World of Warcraft so the changes can take effect.
  8. Type the following command:
    /resetchat
  9. Type the command:
    /console synchronizeSettings 1

Tried that and it’s still an issue . yet Cataclysm is fine .
So the only other thing I can try is to uninstall everything I start with a fresh install. But I don’t think it’s going to make a difference.

it probably has something to do with the small patch that came for era servers today .

I’ve just done a fresh install and it’s still an issue lol .
I can’t do anymore than that

Hmm then it sounds like its something on blizzards end. Some account setting or something.

Hmmm :man_facepalming: maybe think before posting and look up fact’s

I had this exact bug in late dragonflight where option for disabling chat gets stuck, game would inform having chat disabled if I tried say something and option for disable chat show marked and when unmark it the game still said the same and if I did a /reload the option now again shows “disable chat” as marked.

My conclusion were that the option got stuck somehow and I made the usual route of delete cache folder and so on, I got it unstuck eventually but I dont remember what it were and I did bunch of various things simultaneously, gave admin approval to wow.exe and so on.

OP didn’t mention that he can enable chat in his first post, and I did look up the same error on an older post on the US where the GM replied saying “you harassed your teammates xyz”.

he did right there.

You get the same message telling you to turn it back on even if you were silenced by mods, as shown in this post where the GM called out the guy for harassment.

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/chat-is-disabled/1995687

In this case it seems like a bug about a setting not being saved.
