Perfectly legitimate reasons to want to take whatever actions you can.

People: “Blizzard Staff never does their job, don’t bother contacting them.”

People when people don’t want their data being shared to third party sites and are completely within their right to disable said datashare: “NOOOOOOO YOU ARE A DUMB POOPOOHEAD ERPER NOOOOOOO MY IMAGINARY POWEEEER JUST SPEND DAYS CONTACTING BLIZZARD INSTEAD OF CLICKING A BUTTON”

I have been personally stalked, my characters checked dozens upon dozens of times and at the end of the day, if I or anyone else wants to shut off their datashare, they shouldn’t be discouraged to do so.

I do find it a bit humorous also how many Alt posters here have written something along the lines of “You are free to do it, BUT” almost in a effort to discourage people from doing it.

Here’s also yet again how to do it (If you want to, I am not hijacking your brain to do it.)

  1. Go the browser version of Bnet
  2. Go to your account settings
  3. Click Privacy and scroll all the way to the bottom
  4. Disable third party datashare

I wouldn’t call check pvp a privacy violation, it won’t tell me what someones name is, what their address is, what they look like or their social security number

If people want to hide it that’s fine but if you combine that with hot takes online and standing up for ERP then yeah conclusions around you will be drawn based on that

It sucks to know that there are stalkers that use it but I guess unsuprising, still, most people use it so they can avoid certain people, not approach them.

I think it’s been well stated multiple times now that this just boils down to the fact that Blizzards or WoW’s ignoring system is archaic and flawed.

CheckPvP in AD and non-pvp contexts are in both cases used to avoid people you don’t want around you. Be it to hide yourself from creepy stalkers or to ensure that some absolute sad-cases aren’t trying to covertly sneak into your community.

And presumably you now want to avoid that stalker on all their characters, right?

There is 100% reasons for both schools of thought and I think it’s insincere to do the “I’M SILLY” webcomic rebuttal as the cornerstone of your argument because it really isn’t black and white - you should be able to conceal yourself from a stalker but it is also not a good thing that this stalker can freely conceal himself from you

Absolutely fair and I think if you’ve hidden your alts and someone’s guild policy is that you reveal that you can just let them know in pms or whatever (though I think the truth is that disabling check.pvp will barely even slow down a truly crazy gamer like the ceo of zeppelins - there’s stuff you can never turn off like pets et al)

why do you think I levelled them in the first place

So you can post as Calia Yrel twice a month in the pet peeves thread

Calia’s not actually me, I don’t know who owns it.

I’ve got Yrel (Steamwheedle) and Alonsus (Argent Dawn), but those are my only two character-characters.

Yep my entire life has been a lie anyway

Probably meant Yrel and got confused between two extremely boring characters …

Harsh but fair.

And here I was, looking at “21 persons checked this character” and wondering who in hell got interested in lil’ old me.
(It’s missing most of my alts somehow, anyway. Sure check the ones I barely play and not the one propped to become next main)

Being an altoholic breaks Check-pvp-

21 people who went through the ABSOLUTE pain of typing out ë

It was actually my plan all along so I can never be followed nor contacted.

You are right that it is not black and white and my first statement was more of a joke, a jab towards the many Alt posters in this thread to begin with.

Yeah this is a problem with Blizzard’s systems in-general, we’d need some proper hard ignores/straight up block buttons, but I am also not overly stressed about the person who stalked me in the past, whilst that can’t be said for everyone who has had that sort of experiences/still has that happen to them at a regular basis.

For the time being, if someone does want to disable third party datashare/hide their characters on Checkpvp, while it may not “stop” some extremely neurotic, terminally online stalkers, it’ll at least make them sink more time into their sad little obsessions (Pets, achies, etc)

It was interesting seeing the attempts that were made at trolling and dismissing this thread, especially early on. But it was more nice to see everyone else come together and have a good discussion. Eventually the rest came round to join in productively, and those who couldn’t do that have vanished.

I call this for a win for civility and respect in Argent Dawn. :+1:

The character needs to be searched for by someone on the site in the first place to show up. And I think it needs to be high-level enough to show up on the armory.

It’d be nice if two more people searched for me by the way, getting me to that nice, round number of 570!
