Check PvP - How to protect yourself and your Characters

It’s more impractical in the short run, whereas keeping bad faith actors out of your guild is a boon in the long run.

You do. You just don’t have the right to know who everyone is.

Kick whomever you want, but you don’t get to know all their characters.

yeah i think i already explained that but thank u for trying

Except you didn’t leave it at that, you keep saying the ability of knowing someone’s alts is something that you should have.

So it’s less ‘‘trying’’ and more ‘‘succeeding’’.

Quote me on it

My own main for those curious.( I don’t have many alts. I got an abandoned monk and priest and a freshly boosted shaman to add but I don’t remember their spelling and I can’t check until later).

Otherwise thats the full crew.

Right, I realise I am late to the party ( It wouldn’t be the first time), but in the end it comes down to what you find more important. Being able to hide from people, or being able to see people with less than stellar behavior.

My personal opinion is that if someone doesn’t want to have their alts checked by anyone, they can do so, and they are under no obligation to explain themselves as for why they do. Sucks that it gives bad people a way to hide too, but hey, if we had to abolish everything, in this case being able to hide from people you dont wish to interact with, because nasty people might abuse it, we’d have to abolish everything.

However, I will admit, I have used the site to see who the person I am rp’ing with might be, because it has helped me avoid some people I’d rather not see, so I can also understand the train of thought from guild officers that wish to see if a clown is trying to join their guild.

Personally I don’t have my alts hidden, as I mostly play on Desartin these days anyways, sometimes on my death knight too, so even if someone were to look at my alts, they’d still not have gained much out of that.

I’m not sure how that’ll help but there you go

watches you backpeddle back into the circus tent at the speed of sound

:sunglasses:

That’s godmodding

You speak with rationality. Sadly, my altoholic mind vacated such clarity a long time ago.

Ultimately this discussion wouldn’t be happening if WoW’s in-game system for ignoring players were more effective than it is.

How about if /ignoring a player prevented you or they from seeing, hearing, or in any way interacting with the other in the game world? Wouldn’t that be swell? What if you had the option to /ignore all of that character’s alts as well; /ignore the whole account while in-game?

Then there’d be no need to hide your alts from everyone because you’d have the ability to only hide your alts from certain people you know to be unsavoury. GMs would still be able to background check if they desire, and they wouldn’t have to worry about a known troll sneaking into their guild on an alt - unless they have multiple accounts, but even then /ignoring one character would affect them all so the problem would still be less intense than it is now.

That would absolutely be awesome for RP in general - you just ignore whoever spams toys and you stop seeing the mounts etc. It would be swell. I’ve also suggested it to Blizz, but since I’m a RP peasant I don’t think my voice is heard :sob:

b-hopping would be faster.

Only if that were to only work outside of War Mode. I don’t want people abusing ignores to get out of W-PvP encounters. :frowning:

Check PvP is definitely a useful tool for a guild officer/leader, it has allowed me to avoid recruiting people known for griefing/ERPing etc on alts, so I can’t say a bad thing about the website in that regard.

And honestly, even if Check PvP didn’t exist, there’s still ways to find people’s alts through achievement and pet comparison on WoW Armoury, although taking a bit more effort. Pretty hard to stay anonymous in WoW either way if someone wants to check you out.

No that’s because you’re posting on the EU forums. We’re the leper colony of WoW forums, they have never paid attention to us.

I’ll admit it. I made a check-pvp account months ago to hide this specific character after being persistantly stalked and impersonated in-game, and having my friends and RP partners harassed over a NSFW online presence that’s completely separate from the game and general community. If that’s suspicious then so be it.
