It’s been about 2 years since I started WoW and I have still not picked a main. It’s impossible. The worst part is I can only help myself, I don’t think there’s anything anyone can say to ease the decision making process for me.
During the two years I’ve quit like 3 times simply due to the impossibility of choosing a main, as I eventually get to a point where I’m tired of trying to decide and stick to other games. I guess it’s time to accept this game just isn’t for me.
I think the days of having a “main” are well and truly gone.
You have a character that you might play more than others in a particular season. But the next season you might play another alt. Then in a 3rd season you might have 3 character to do content with equally.
Just play what you enjoy playing. If you’re not enjoying just don’t play.
If you play from a casual perspective, you do not need to worry about having a “Main” min-max, or even race class combo, play whatever you enjoy this week or month, and switch to something else.
Don`t waste time trying to grind and get too much gear, by the time you accomplish all of that, there are new systems and gear sets out.
The moral of all of this, play whatever you like and only do activities you enjoy, its your time, that you're putting into this game you won't get it back, and its a shame to waste it on things you don`t enjoy.
You don`t need serious guilds or commitments for most things in the game, just do you
Main character hasn’t been a thing for me lately, i’d play whatever i feel like in whatever content i’m in mood for. Ofc i have my old shaman that i farm achievements on but i’d play any class now.
My first main was a Warlock when I started in atBC until I discovered Paladin during Wrath, and I’ve never swapped again.
Some people love a class and others will only play what is strong. Some will play a different main every season just to keep it interesting. Some have several on the go and others dedicate their time to having one main.
Honestly my “main” is the character I go through the new content with first. I switched to the Hunter after getting to 70 on my Paladin because they were hitting like wet noodles. Hunter has farmed all the rep etc but now Paladin is fun again, I’ma switch back for 10.1.
My first main was an undead male warlock, I used to hardcore raid on him. (Naxxramas)
I made this druid (Nelf female) meanwhile too tho (This was in OG vanilla), and a tauren hunter, who I raided small with (Onyxia, MC, ZG)
I’ve never been good at sticking to purely 1 char, but I consider my druid my Nr 1 char I try gather things on, because it became a depressing state when things were spread out accross toons…
So the game limits decided for me how to play the game, in the end.
I wish - EVERYTHING - was account wide, since I am the one earning everything. ;(
Reason why you experience this is becouse all classes feels same and there is 0 time investment when comes to leveling. Its really hard to pick main in game where every class feels exactly same.
In proper mmo with diverse class desing you will find some classes very boring and some very fun anf some classes you will instanly know you wont play. If you can have no problem picking any class and play that class it means classes are too similar.
Choosing a “main” tends to mean you know the class through and through while having a lot of time invested into that one character.
That can still happen even if you have multiple “mains.” Gearing them all up. Learning the rotation, nuances and skill requirements. It just takes time.
A main is not instant. Someone who says they main X class upon pick-up is like a first year uni student saying they are a professional architect. They’re not. They will be, but not yet.
Focus on what is fun. Keep whatever classes you want going and simply gear as you go. Enjoy the game for all the classes you want to play, not the need for others to see you excel at only one!
Picking a main is like picking a career, most people just kind of go along and end up in one they fit with naturally, it’s not like ordering a thing on a menu
You can’t play MM with 2 pets. So no thanks.
Pets are life. Pets are love.
I don’t mind it if the ‘fantasy’ is cool.
For instance, if BM would be given a dual wield melee option, I might actually use that; go full Rexxar fantasy.
