This is the idea I’ve been thinking about for some time and thought how good it would be to be able to change our class like in FF14.
Changing mains in WoW can be a chore, especially if you’ve completed a LOT of reputations and unlocked so much… but then comes a patch when you no longer enjoy playing your class and decide to start a new character… from scratch. T_T
I’m the type of player that gets really attached to a character, but sometimes I am annoyed at the way the said class plays. I would -love- to be able to change class with my main without worrying about losing my progress.
I understand this would give a massive headache with coding, but perhaps this is something that might be planned/considered?
Well the good news with Warband is that a lot of stuff is shared now. And is planned to be shared (from older content). Nowadays with current currencies you can also buy BoA boxes to throw on alts too. Getting Gilded is pretty fast as well, so fast people complain they don’t have junk to buy with it at their alts
Ahh a shame.
But at least Warbands make things easier, so hopefully in the future changing mains will no longer be a painful process.
Ngl, seeing all the unmaxed reputations on new mains is giving me a headache Reassuring to know this will all count toward Warbands now.
But still, would really like to have -everything- on just one character and switch classes on that same char depending on what I feel like playing. Who knows what the future brings, but lots of cool stuff to look forward to!
No not really. And as for old reputations who cares just use your old main to buy old crap its not like your new main needs stuff from 27 expansions ago. And this comes from person who has played same mage for almost 20 years.
It’s something very easy to do on a technical level, many games have this feature already, not just FF. The problem is WoW is conceived with level boosts in mind, so instead of letting you pay for a class change, they let you pay for a level boost, thus in their eyes a class change is unnecessary.
I wish it wasn’t like that, because like you said, we get attached to our characters and the progression we make, so it would be better for us if we could simply change class instead of having to start a new character.
Unfortunately it is very unlikely that they will add this feature in the near future.
Wouldn’t work for WoW. Meta slaves would cry because there is no content anymore because they aren’t “forced” anymore to level a new character to play the next fotm spec/class.
And the biggest reason that this won’t happen is blizz would make less money from those boosts.
It’s already happening since leveling doesn’t take much time.
It has nothing to do with coding and mostly with how the game functions.
In FF14, you are a character with jobs that takes forever to do the main story and reach the “end level”. In that kind of system, rp is the primary focus and you can change jobs without much of a hassle, since your “class” is secondary to your character.
In WoW, you are your class. The rp element is way reduced and the game is built around your character class. That is the reason that leveling is so damn fast. In the world your character IS your class, and for that reason you can level up a new character in 2-3 hours.
With how wow is catering to end game activities, it would hurt the game to a pretty big degree, since it would make it pretty hard to “filter” how good each player is in each class and if it would be a good addition to a group.
Personally I prefer WoW’s model because when I roll a class, I’ll usually have a race in mind. The character is a combination of both for me. For me it felt restrictive in FF14 in that sense, I wanted to play different races but it’d mean starting all over again, and that was quite a bit more daunting there than it is in WoW. I understand the request tho, it’s pretty cool.
It wouldn’t be good.
FoTM people would go insane. No thanks.
Min maxers should not be encouraged even more.
Not that it would impact me, mind you. There’s zero reason for me to ever play anything else than BM hunter. It’s the spec to rule all specs, for me. So yeah.
I am happy with Warband system, and I have a lot of roleplay characters that I enjoy playing with them as well. It does not feel starting from scratch anymore. Also firm makes money from class change option from in game store. Let’s not forget about not every race can play every class thing as well. I understand your concern, but this is the mechanic of WoW, and FF has different mechanics (I played FF11 for 6 years, FF14 for 6-months in the past).
Implying people don’t already do that, considering how quick leveling is, if they were that fixed on FOTM.
In FF14 you could switch classes on the fly, but you still had to level and get gear for them as though they were their own ‘character’. But you progressed through everything with the one character.
Actually, I do support the idea of allowing class change in WoW, but not for “free”
Do you remember when we had to pay 50g to change our talent point allocation, back when 50g was not something you could make in a week unless you were hardcore? They could reintroduce that and allow class change, for something like 1k x < character level > in gold.
This would skyrocket the price of the token too, which means more people would spend real cash for tokens.
Remember, the important thing is not if an idea is good for the game or not, but how it can be monetized.
-=EDIT=-
But if I have to be entirely serious, the most logical reason why it hasn’t been implemented is because of massive amounts of game-breaking bugs that class change could cause. You’re not just changing values on a database with this.
