I for one liked how they did this in SoD, as GDKPs incentives goldbuying etc. Is it just me that wants this?
“In line with our policy enacted on Season of Discovery realms in NA and EU, we will not allow gold dragon kill point (GDKP) runs in Anniversary realms in the NA and EU regions.”
blizz is going out on a limb and experimenting here. on one hand they’re pleasing the notion that they’re cracking down on bots (they aren’t) but on the other they know that they’re alienizing a large portion of their dad gamer audience who wont be playing without gdkps.
personally imo theres nothing wrong with gdkps and banning them doesn’t really stop bots but we all know where those 20-300k bids are coming from. gdkps would be fine if people farmed the gold themselves but that doesn’t happen.
Erm, yes and … I think you tagged the wrong person I do not care for GDKP one way or another and haven’t ever mentioned it.
I have my doubts on this… because in my expereince, it´s the players my age that have been doing this for 15 years + that have the most dislke for swipers and people with no patience that always “need” everything right now. Most of us also didn´t grow up in a society where spending as much money as you can afford on video games jus to skip playing them was considered normal. We are also the ones that were there railing on the Sparkle pony, token and boosts when they first came out and still refuse to purchase them.
That´s not to say there are no swiping dad. but the sweeping generalazation is wonky at best…
GDKP does not incentivise gold buying. You get plenty of gold from your cuts to buy whatever gear you need. Moreover to buy items in a GDKP with RMT you’re talking hundreds or even thousands in IRL money. There is only a small minority who are big enough losers to spend that much IRL on gold in a game.
On the oposite side of the coin, guild and SR runs are expensive, as you get no gold payouts from your raids, so you need to spend hundreds or even thousands of gold a week for consumes with zero income from raiding. I’d wager more people in guilds and doing SR runs are buying gold than GDKP players.
I made 18k this week doing GDKPs for 6 hours total, do you really think I have any reason to buy gold when I can buy most Nax BiS items sell for between 20k to 40k each depending on the item (exclusing crazy stuff like THC etc)? I can buy a piece of BiS every couple weeks from payouts alone. Meanwhile SR and Guild folk have to farm hours to pay for their consumes each week. If they get busy IRL they may not have time to farm, then the temptation to buy gold is there for them, not the case for GDKP where you can literally just raid log and do zero farming if you wanted.
i agree with alot that you said. but
what? you do gdkps that often and don’t realize that nobody is accusing the pumpers of buying gold (who are already bis), but the naked buyers who are wearing lvl 24 boes?
how did you even come to the conclusion that sr’ers are buying gold more gold than the ppl spending 20-300k? thats crazy mental gymnastics.
i may be wrong with my generalization, but there are definitely alot of dad gamers swiping because they can’t afford to invest time in farming anymore. and just older boomers who like classic but have done alot of the same stuff 100’s of times on pservers.
What makes you think those people wearing bad gear in GDKPs are not the alts of pumpers? I use my BIS characters to farm gold with to feed my alts gear in different GDKPs. I literally dropped 50k in one week on my warrior when he dinged 60 gearing him up as I got lucky with drops. All that gold was just payouts from my main which I saved.
A friend of mine in one of the GDKPs I run regularly has 3 different BIS healers that he runs multiple raids a week with. The dude is raking in like 50k+ a week pumping with 3 toons and just hoarding the gold. He is gold capped on multiple characters. If that dude goes to a raid on a naked alt, he gets whatever he wants.
where do you think that raw 50k gold came from tho? im not saying you bought that but at some point someone did and it ended up in your bag, at a gdkp.
Yeah of course there are losers who bought gold with RMT to spend in a GDKP. Just like the items you sell on the AH are bought by gold buyers too. GDKP gold buyers are the minority though. I don’t know any regulars of my GDKP buying gold. You can tell because if you track the cuts they get each week it matches the budget they spend on items when they bid. Most people who play WoW don’t have hundreds or thousands of disposable income IRL to drop on in game loot. Look how expensive buying 150,000 gold to drop on a THC would be, it would be an insane amount of IRL money to spend.
Banning GDKP doesnt stop people buying gold for gear either. People bought gear before GDKPs even existed. You know the guy who is the voice that comes up in the Onyxia instructions for the DBM addon? He played in the original vanilla release. There is an interview with him where he discusses how his guild used to sell full loot runs for gold to people on the server as non of the core members needed any loot anymore. Guilds have been selling loot runs for gold since the game was even released. Banning GDKP doesn’t stop people buying gear for gold.
I don´t think “actual” boomers play videogames anywhere as much as you seem to think… these people are, by definition, 70+, many have managed to go through their entire adult life without so much as a cell phone. My last employer´s numbers at least don´t support the theory that video games are any more popular with that demographic than they were in 1995.
And when they do play games, IME it´s usually things like Candy crush, Bejeweled or Pepper poppers, ashey´re not tuned toward everything in life having to be a Micael Bay production… Again, they exist, but just because people like to throw "boomer game "around like it´s some kind of turbosick burn when raggin on the game doesn´t by extension mean that senior cituzens in nursing homes are all high end raiders and /or the core playerbase
i think it’s quite fair to assume that people buy a small amount of gold to get started in gdkps and then keep repeating them through cuts, which is how the gold in gdkps gets so inflated in the first place. raw gold doesn’t just magically manifest. gold was hard to come by on era until it blew up a year ago. then suddenly there were gdkps everywhere and having 100k gold is considered normal.
I’m blind, this is awesome news! Thanks for linking!
Please don’t start again with GDKPs. They said they will not allow it. Suck it up and move on with your wow lives.
I raid GDKP myself but we have to be honest Gdkp’s are infact motivating to buy gold. Most goldbuyers won’t downright buy 150k for THC, they are more like me buying gold here and there in addition to increase the gold and gear up faster. like 10-15k per month in addition. still a bummer they banned gdkp’s at least i’m versatile and don’t have any problems raiding in a guild instead.
I don’t mind the GDKP ban, but that’s just treating the symptom not the disease.
BAN BOTS BEFORE THEY EARN ENOUGH MONEY TO BE PROFITABLE!
Can we for once get a customer service of one payed GM per server to cleanse the bots for few hours a day, can’t a multi dollar company afford one freaking payroll?
Say what?!
Quite the ABSOLUTE opposite is the case… I play with a big group of friends and we are ALL Dadgamers. We are in a Dadgamer guild and EVERY SINGLE Dadgamer despises GDKP.
Us Dadgamers play for fun, immersion and nostalgia. We hate RMT/GDKP
Banning GDKP is the way to go
so your sample size is a guild of immature 40y/o man childs who are obviously too scared of being the blacksheep and wants to blend into their herd. gotcha.
Ha! Thanks for that reply
Almost took u seriously… now I see that u are a clueless pathetic little basement dweller that likes to swipe
Stop getting mad because other people have a life and actually enjoy gaming!
