Classic pre-raid dungeons --- zero chance to find a group

this is mostly a post cancellation rant.

so, server is Golemagg, year is 2021,
I finally hit 60 on my UD mage after leveling at my own pace. (nice journey, good experience).

and then, I hit the hard concrete wall.
tried for almost 1+1/2 week to find a group to go pre-raid dungeons for equipment, for quests, for atunements, all that mandatory stuff.

every day of the last week and a half, for few hours I advertised in Orgrimar that stoopid “LFG any 55+ dungeon” message. hell, I even create a macro for it after I got fed up.

but guess what? absolutely no1 is going there anymore.
there is a gap between the geared ppl doing raids and fresh 60s.

am I having a bad week, or there is simply zero chances to run all those pre-raid mandatory dungeons without having some friends dedicated to help you, or paying hard gold for ppl hanging in Orgrimar?

whatTF is going on? everyone busy boting BRD on their rogues or what?

Nobody really needs them anymore, since we’re all geared in P6 gear.

You are well over a year too late.

Just to be sure: you did /join lookingforgroup global channel? That’s really the place to be when LFG.

On my server (Nethegarde Keep) I see adverts all the time for BRD/LBRS/UBRS/Scholo/Strat etc. because not everyone really is P6 and ppl make lots of alts right now to prepare for TBC!

Some advice for you.

Tradechat is mostly worthless for LFG
You have to be in the city to read it. A lot of people are on alts or farming. Some people even turn off tradechat completely unless they offer or look for services (enchanting, crafting). There is /join LookingforGroup, an official channel, which is worldwide. When I’m on an alt, I always have that active, so if something I’d like to do pops up, I can answer and relog.

Find a guild that runs dungeons with you
Simple: If you want to do X, and your guild doesn’t seem to support X, then ask yourself “Why am I in this guild? What’s the point?”

Be specific about what dungeons you wanna do
“LFG any 55+ dungeon” won’t get many answers. Tell people WHICH dungeon you want to run. You have attunements to do, you have specific gear to get, you have quests to do. So you have specific goals. “Casting a wide net” doesn’t really work when it comes to LFG.

LFM > LFG
“LFG” tells the world you are available for a group that is already being formed. “LFM” tells the world you are going to form the group. Do that. Yes, you have to find a Tank/Heal/2moredps and you’ll have to deal with the occasional “sorry no more time, bye” - kinda guy, but you end up with a group quicker (and you get to decide if there will be any more cloth dps  )

Which is kind of the point. Why are you relying on PuGs? What are your guild doing? Why aren’t they helping you?

I’m in the reverse position in that my main is getting guild invites to Scholo, Strat, LBRS, UBRS pretty-much every day when I log in but mostly has to decline as I don’t have enough free time to play for any longer than an hour on most week days. In the last two months this character has run through ZF four times, and ST twice.

A dps saying “lfg X dungeon” hardly ever works, even in early stages of the game.
I’d recommend starting groups instead of looking for them.
Start your spam with LFM instead of LFG.

Dead questing zones? No dungeon groups? Did they release the 58 boost already? Oh wait no that’s how it just is. Another anti-booster argument busted.

Even by your supremely low standards, that was pathetic.

You do not need to do dungeon content to gear.

Ok, well that might be a bit of an exaggeration but it’s the truth. You should focus on doing ZG/AQ20 there should still be pugs running at least there is on my server and it’s low population as the gear from here is just superior to what you can get in dungeons with the exception of a few minor items. Spend a few hours PvPing each week and gain some easy ranks, getting to R10 nowadays isn’t that intensive and the gear is good for mage even if you don’t make it to 10 you get get at R7+R8. Look for someone to craft you Bloodvine gear and farm the mats or farm gold to buy it from someone. Plenty of ways to gear that doesn’t involve doing 5 mans, it sucks though I get it, you got to 60 and want to do 5 mans sadly no one really runs them anymore because as I said the gear from easy raids like ZG/AQ20 is better and having “full pre bis” means diddly since at this point you’ll be getting carried by better geared players anyway.

You can also join PuGs to MC, BWL and AQ40 although admittedly you’ll need to do attunements which will be hard so I suggest finding a guild and asking them to help you run BRD and UBRS once so you can get attuned to both.

On my realm finding a dungeon of any level is quite easy. Maybe you are doing something wrong as there are countless players now leveling for TBC and I don’t think this only applies to my realm. Actually the population now is far higher than a few months back.

You have very good tips here. Following them should boost your chances significantly.

How was that pathetic? I lost count how many times ‘dead leveling zones’ was brought up as an argument to stop the boost. Half of the servers if not more already face this issue.

gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8

Have you finally come to terms with the losing battle you’ve been trying to fight for days?

And now imagine how boosting will destroy all low lvl dungeons even more. This service is gonna impact gameplay drastically and in no good way.
Old good wow classic, now i am boomer :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I am trying my best to imagine dead low lvl dungeons being more dead.
Now you imagine how many potential extra players max level dungeons will have.

Retail players?
Nooooooooo !!!
Now help me delete this image pls.

Join cesspool levelling guild. Make your own groups.

This is the key

thanks a lot for your replyes.

I did not know of /join lookingforgroup channel.
also farming pvp is not a bad ideea, as I enjoy this part of the game pretty much.

my guild does not seem to be interested in supporting me in leveling. maybe it is not the guild for me. maybe I should change it.

I will try to use your advises, for the 12 days which I still have left of my sub.

/great community as expected/

I strongly recommend quitting whatever guild you’re in. A guild needs to be a group you feel at home with, who you can chat and joke with, and who make you feel you’re part of something and not alone when out in the world.

If they’re just a bunch of silent strangers whom you joined because you were invited to make up the numbers they don’t deserve you as a member.

I dunno what your server is like, but on mind there’s constant adverts for ‘friendly social/levelling guilds’ and ‘dungeon guilds’ in /general chat’ but never just join blindly. Talk to people, talk to other members, get a feel for these people first. A guild is a commitment, even though it’s just a game, they are real people.

If all else fails use your realm forum, there’s sure to be guilds advertising on there for members - and if not, make a post ‘Looking for new guild’, and explain that you want people to run dungeons with. You’ll probably learn that there’s plenty of others who want the same thing.

Finally. Running an instance with a guild, or with friends (who should ideally be the same thing, given time) is an entirely different experience from running it with strangers. It’s in another dimension!
