Classic version after SoD?

Is there any info or any hints at what might come after SoD? Never got into SoD as it just didn’t fit my expectations and in a way felt disconnected from the Classic feel. Not to mention the whole seasonal model makes me feel like investing time in it is pointless when it will not last for long anyway.

Naturally i always hope there will be something resembling Classic+…in whatever form it may come in, but do we even have any clues?

Still (way) too early to tell.

The only clue we got is Microsoft fire 400 Blizzard employees. That will take some time to settle, and with both Cata Classic and Retail out (and both failing hard) I simply can’t see how they should manage to do a release of Era (Classic, TBC or WotLK) within the next year or two.

Personally I believe in “Never”. Blizzard completely lost touch with the player base, unfortunately.

Maybe not that hard, at least Retail has somewhat improved…if only by a little bit, but it’s still alive and breathing. Cataclysm…ye…not sure why they even bothered with that one, it’s as far from ‘‘classic’’ as it can be. I’d never play it because it just feels like an inferior version of Retail anyway.

Perhaps, has felt that way for years, but i’m always an optimist…always trying to turn a blind eye, but Retail keeps making me more and more depressed because of how detached it feels from the MMORPG feel, with hardly any of it left, the ‘‘magic’’ really is gone.
Decent story/lore but that really can’t cover up a crappy game design and content cycle. So while id give +1 to Chris Metzen for bringing decent story, not so much the rest.

I hope nothing comes after SOD. I hope SOD gets deleted and there are no more seasonal realms. These constant “updates” spilling over from seasonal realms are ruining era.

I think that was because of Warcraft Rumble

Classic Devs said in an interview “We cannot announce anything yet but you should think why we doing all this and Aggrend said the same things somewhere else and smiled”

It’s pretty obvious that SoD is a testbed for a future Classic Version.

I do that all the time. Why implement that Guild UI in Classic, Blizzard - WHY? :joy:

What is there to ruin? Era is dead for a long time now.

Era isn’t dead, it’s paused since HC and SoD.
If there is no refresh or classic+ after SoD many of us play Era again.

Era is for old man that want to feel young again, and yes i understand vanilla was great for the time it came out as there was no other game as close to wow back in the day but in today standard only old man play vanilla as it stupid for blizzard to be forcing something that will just die and die when they can do something like SOD TBC which makes more sense to bring more people to play classic again.

Exactly, what my guild does since 2019.
We play less Era now because we are checking out SoD.

There is no reason for us to quit Era, what hyped mmo hoppers and retail players do doesn’t matter to us.

Interesting then, looking forward to Classic’s future announcements.
Classic Era by itself just isn’t quite for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great in it’s own way…but because everything is known and hyper-optimized down to a decimal…plus being in the last tier/phase…kind of ruins the game for me.Like Retail, the playerbase is focused on grinding and performance. I suppose it just doesn’t have that ‘‘magic’’ because of the stage it’s in.
I want something fresh, something new to discover and experience…hence why a future Classic version is the only option.
SoD had potential, but unfortunately the rune system made me extremely frustrated/annoyed due to the fact they had to be discovered without any hints or direction…and i cannot play a game when it doesn’t guide me to a degree, if it doesn’t have a linear path, i just can’t. Literally had to wait weeks and then google everything because there was no way i would find anything…it was just too much.
I remember running around for an hour in Mulgore trying to find the first rune for a hunter…because there were no directions whatsoever and no clue how the thing i’m suppose to find even looks. I just can’t play a game that way.

You don’t need to justify, not everyone likes classic and that’s ok.

This was exactly my plan for SoD - explore the zones and “discover” the runes. And I managed to get 2 or 3. And in Deadmines I got asked why I don’t have the runes.
A game shouldn’t force you to have a guide on a second screen all the time. Are we playing or doing a research project?

And what you gonna do there? The content is finite. Just run around?

You can ask the same for any expansion in Retail and why most players end up in Raid logging. Expansions devalued previous content and replayability of WoW. For that reason players only stay for M+ and raids.

One reason why SoD is the better Era because it improves the Maxlevel content to make it fun and replayable for 60s. This way people don’t end up raid logging and asking for refresh.

Replayable Vanilla content + continuously upgrading Maxlevel content and patching new content = replayable and fun for any level.

The classic team understood the assignment but it took 20 years.

I agree with you. For me a classic + would be new skills , new story content and dungeons/raids plus horizontal gearing.

classic+ would just be retail lite same as season of retail is atm

You trust the people that made SoD to make Classic +
