Classic WoW Ironman Challenge Rules

Since the ruleset for the Ironman Challenge is outdated everywhere, I decided to put together the reasonable rules for this:

•0 Deaths

•No gear higher than White quality

•No Enchantments on your gear
Rogue Poisons are permitted.

•No Talents allowed

•Primary Professions are NOT ALLOWED

•Secondary Professions are NOT ALLOWED
Rogue Poisons are permitted.

•Your Killing Blow / Total Kills percentage must be 75% or higher
This means not to use Horde or Alliance characters or guards as an exploit for leveling - Avoid these situations as soon as possible.

•Cannot join a party, raid or group with the intent of getting help to further yourself in the challenge
Using mage portals is NOT ALLOWED. Warlock summons are NOT ALLOWED. You can however get together with other Ironman characters.

•No Dungeons, Raids or Battlegrounds are allowed
You can however get together with other members of our guild or other Ironman characters.

•Trading, using the Mailbox or Auction House is NOT ALLOWED
This means CANNOT pickup any items sent to you by mail (any mail) - leave them inside the mailbox for 30 days. To prevent trolls - It’s allowed to pick up items or gold sent to you as a joke by other characters, but only to mail them immediately to another character.

•Cannot boost your character in any way, shape or form, that’s not been described in the rules

•All XP-Boosting activities, if any, or any sort of external help is NOT ALLOWED

•ELIXIRS, Potions, Scrolls, Flasks and all Consumables that are not Food or Drink are NOT ALLOWED
Except ones required for quests, if any.

•Food Buffs and any other External Buffs are NOT ALLOWED
Remove any buffs immediately when placed upon you by other characters or NPCs.

Things that are allowed:

•Class training is ALLOWED

•Weapon Masteries are ALLOWED

•Class abilities, racials and personal Buffs are ALLOWED

•All Mounts are ALLOWED

•Using vendors for selling, buying and repairing is ALLOWED

•Eating and Drinking for restoring Health and Mana is ALLOWED
Though not for buffs! Do not consume Buff food.

•All quests are ALLOWED

•Grouping up other Ironman characters with the intent of leveling together, doing Dungeons or RP and such is ALLOWED
Though for Dungeons you all must meet at the Meeting Stone and be in the noted level group. Also, of course, no buffs and trades.

Keyboard is allowed ?
Second monitor for movies or tv shows is allowed ?

Anyway, enjoy your pure pain.
Where there is not enough content, make your own.

First Aid is usually universally considered a “Yellow flag”. I prefer not to include it as it’s a major compromise.

Some people go no Food or Water too, but that’s too extreme IMO.

oh thats where you draw the line?

Have you considered adding :

  • no extra bags, just the default one
  • no mount whatsoever
  • no stable internet connection
  • no quests
    ?

Yes, all “time-wasters”, like waiting for regen, not taking flight paths or not using mounts are not part of the challenge.

Regarding other questions:

  • No extra bags is a good idea, though I personally like to RP as Human in Tirisfal, so repair is a major issue there; hence gathering gear is the best way to go; I believe having bags is OK, though it’s best to be noted that they should be of White quality too.
  • Quests are integral part of the experience - maybe don’t do all quests; hunt rares; do as you wish, but quests are allowed.

All other comments I take as a joke.

The classic version sounds like a hunter only challenge.

So you basically run around in vendor-bought white gear and weapons, killing mobs one at a time and eating/drinking vendor bought food/water that you spend all your money on. Why would you do that to yourself? Like levelling in Classic isn’t grueling on it’s own to the point where vast majority of people prefers to pay for a mage to repeatedly clear an instance for them.
This remids me of people who run Baldur’s Gate Trilogy solo as Kensai 13 --> Mage. No, more like solo Totemic Druid or Beast Master. Why?
To each his own I suppose. GLHF.

You forget

  • Only PvP Server

  • If you die, delete character

Does zero deaths include pets?

I think the no primary professions rule is stupid.

Moving forward is not allowed you must either moonwalk backwards like MJ or back pedal into mobs.

  • Only PvP realms is a made-up rule I do not condone - the risks there are too high.
  • Character deletion is not mandatory - you just failed the challege; do as you wish afterwards.
