"Combat" addons gone in midnight end-game content

Well, as caster dps and healer player solely, if I cant track enemy kick cds then I pretty much cant play the game as I cant fake cast and juke their kicks to know when I can cast a spell or not as thats pretty much the caster/healer gameplay since vanil for past 20 years now. I dont know how else to play the game.

I guess I could try their new dh range dps spec for funzies as it likely is designed to zoom around and be uninterruptable or loaded with instants while being immune to cc no doubt, same as they did dragon.

It seems to be their way to make new heroes like this and more suitable for retail gameplay while locks and the rest are left behind with outdated designs and neglected and if I cant even track kicks on them in the future then there is no point playing them past this expansion.

Aims / intents = / = executional fact that you can witness live on the server

Yes, but we can see they have changed the philosophy behind combat and they will do their best to make it real. This is not just some temporary switch to different type of combat, this is a complete overhaul of combat for maybe another 20 years

Why they do it? New players maybe, approachabilty, veteran players getting older now in their 40s, who are HUGE part of the playerbase with enough money to spend in the shop etc. etc. This might end up good, I am optimistic.

Im not.

They have a horrible Track Record for such Things.

The only positive I saw in there

  • External tracking is a brand new feature as part of the Edit mode that will allow you to track things like Ironbark from your team.

We’re also introducing, it’s not necessarily a part of the cooldown manager, but it will be accessed through Edit mode as something you can turn on. We’re calling it active external defensive. So that is something that will also allow you to track something like Ironbark for your other team members. And that exists outside of the cooldown manager. We chose to do that so that you could move those things independently from each other, and you don’t need to do the management levels that cooldown manager has for something like those external defensives. On top of those types of things, we’re also adding in things like sound alerts. So you’ll be able to choose your sounds and assign sounds to events like on cooldown, off cooldown, within your cooldown manager as well to help bring that alert up. They’ll even be going as far as we’ll be adding in a text to speech option so that you’ll be able to have the spell read out instead of it just hearing an abstract sound.

I couldnt find whether I can track enemies kick’s or not however so that can be hard for casters and healers.

I think the opposite. I hate the look of most UI addons. Usually it makes the game completely sterile looking with square ugly boxes and just not a fantasy game at all.

Combat addons will not be removed, their ability to predict the future/tell you what to do will be. Atleast that’s how I interpret what Ion said.
An example was like having a bunch of markers in a room and weakauras telling player x to move to marker y. They wanna take away that.

That kind of situation sounds like a raid thing.

They have never planned to do and announced such huge rework of the combat system, so there is really no precedent for this.

Compared to this everything from the past was nothing more than some cosmetic changes. Yes the combat has evolved into something (current state) over time since vanilla. I play this game for over 20 years without interruption, the combat has changed, but slowly over time. Now we are getting complete rework from one xpac to another.

And you think if they failed to deliver on much smaller things, they will totally succeed properly in such a huge undertaking?

Im sorry but i find that naive.

Addons will not be able to access the combatlog and combat status, which most combat addons rely on and essentially kills them.

Which part?

“No Exceptions. Crash Reed and Ion Hazzikostas expand on the addon purge, announcing that there are no exceptions for addons depending on what end-game mode you’re in. But some of the addon logic only applies to instances but not the outdoor world. They don’t want to disrupt RP addons, quest helpers, etc.”

“Another follow up on add-ons, will there be exceptions to combat lock restrictions for add-ons? in PVP it’s very useful to know when any new players have interrupts especially for healers or for casters. It’s currently being handled by add-ons. Any thoughts there?”

“Crash Reed said:
Right now, there’s no exceptions for the addons in terms of the type of gameplay mode that you’re in, so that does include PVP.”

" Ion Hazzikostas said:

One very small caveat to what Crash just said, there’s some aspects of our new addon logic, such as addon communication rules that only apply in instances, and don’t apply in the outdoor world. In general, the focus here and the focus of this of this initiative on our part has always been basically instance competitive gameplay, where you’re getting an advantage over other people, whether it’s in a PVP match head to head, or just trying to push a key or kill a raid boss"

He speaks of outdoor, and specifically calls being able to see enemy kicks in arena example as an advantage they wont allow, so healers and caster dps will be ruined by this in PvP, nobody cares of outdoor though as the game end game were made instanced rated gameplay long time ago.

Basically this means that if casters cant track kicks its huge advantage for melee. Might aswell given them 50% dmg buff top of it.

The success or failure might as well end up being a subjective matter. Some people will find the changes great, some people who now like the piano keybind play with space ship control panel like UI will consider it a failure. We will see.

oooo imagine the game being skillbased
 shocker :astonished:

You dont think that fake casting before actually casting any spell is not skillbased?

Its the biggest skill ceiling right now in pvp between new and old player, the old player knows to juke kicks and only start doing dmg and cc or heal after he sees kicks gone cd.

Unable to do the following it becomes random and actually less skill based if there is no skill ceiling anymore. Also becomes worse for the casters in general. You wont be able to cast a single spell reliably against melee cleaves or with any focus on you as a caster or healer. Thats actually quite disturbing news honestly.

Yes, absolutely.

Blizzard will not integrate “exactly the same” functions as 3rd party addons. It is just illogical.

E.g. 3rd party combat addon like DBM is designed specifically to counter boss fight.

I can 100% guarantee that even if Blizzard bans DBM and implement their own version boss mode, it will NEVER be the same as DBM.

It will show boss ability timers/cds, but it will never tell you what to do (like “move away from raid”, “run to”, “keep jumping”, “stand still” etc. yelled by DBM).

It makes no sense for Blizzard to creates a boss fights, then just tell you exactly how to counter it. Blizzard is not a 3rd party.

But with addons banned, Blizzard can of course adjust encounter design and difficulties more easily.

It literally say in the link that they wont allow any exceptations in instanced raid, m+ or pvp and they will ban all addons going forward, only outside they allow addons but who cares of outside.

The fact that this, from your point of view, skill ceiling is gone, does not mean there cannot be any new one with the new combat and addon system

Might as well be that the old stars just stop to shine and with this new system other players will become the new stars replacing you because of having more talent under the newly introduced conditions.

Looks pretty grim if heals or casters cant track kicks, its literally major buff for melee then if fake casting gets removed from the game. I imagine we see less healers aswell from that, they dont exactly have things too good even now. Its extremely bad decision to remove ability to track kicks in PvP, literally ruins the gameplay for healers and any casters and serves as massive buff for all melees.

This, so much this.

People don’t seem to understand that Blizzard have shown time and time again to be incompetent with little things, let alone of something of this magnitude.

Never ever used addons besides DBM and Skada, even when I was doing the hardest content back a while ago. So this has 0 impact on me what so ever.

I am glad we’re going back in time where we can actually focus on the gameplay rather than looking at 500 different addons on screen tracking 500 different things.

If you look at the alpha patch notes, they’re also simplifying classes and buffs to go along side these addon changes, so I think it’s good news all around, and it’ll be much, much healthier for the game in the long run.

Yep, they only ruined arena with shuffles and made the new mode worse for healers and healers said they want improvements but didnt get none for 4 odd years so majority of healers quit. I have zero trust.

If they now also remove healers and casters ability to track kicks nobody will know whether they can cast or not. This is extremely bad and only benefits melee.
