Combo points

Would it be such a disaster to have them on the rogue instead of the target?

Ye, then it would not feel right. It is about how it was.

You see, in the design “every drawback can justify additional effectiveness/power” - so keeping the CP on the rogue like in retail makes them sooooo much easier to handle, so easy to pool, so available… their corresponding moves would have to be weaker.

Could do, but was one of those decisions in retail that removed rogue identity and moved them from “one of if not the most played class” to bottom place (ok, above evokers). Remove the difficulty and the boon you gain for it makes for a weaker version.

That isn’t the reason no one plays rogue anymore. Not even close.
The reason no one plays rogue is because all the positioning and flavour was taken out of the class so that they’re now just more complicated warriors.
I don’t know a single rogue that didn’t celebrate the announcement that combo points would be on the rogue. I certainly did. I see no reason why anything would need to be nerfed, It’s still the same build/spend mechanic. What difference does it make if you’ve built 5 combo points on the rogue instead of the target? It’s the same damage. Just now if it dies the points aren’t wasted.

No it isn’t. This isn’t classic. If you want a carbon copy of vanilla go play that.

You’re right, this isn’t classic. What it is though is Classic+. The devs themselves have said this plenty of times between the lines and disctreetly, probably because isn’t a good idea for them to say because it scares away potential non classic players.

But. it. is. Classic+.

If you think it wouldn’t be such a disaster to have talent points on yourself and not your target then you haven’t played enough vanilla/classic and you definitely haven’t played rogue enough in said versions. It would fundementally change PvP. Building up combo points off a low hp lvl 58 mob to have full combo points for the next player is just one example. Rogues have already seen the removal of energy ticks and we’ve yet to see what that does PvP wise at 60, thats a massive change to OG rogue, thats very ‘‘retail-y’’.

I don’t understand these posts.. Why are people wanting to make the game more retail? This is not retail, its classic+. Whether or not they use that term or not, it doesn’t matter. Its fine to want things added or adjusted to the game but for the love of god can we stop with these ‘‘can we have this retail feature added’’ posts, its extremely tiring, they’re filling up the forums and drowning useful posts.

See - either it’s the same damage or you are “in danger of losing points if not planning ahead and sometimes unavoidably do”. I know what you mean, it’s almost annoying to watch out and downright frustrating once trash dies too quickly in dungeons. BUT it’s still a disadvantage that gets offset by more power behind the stuff that does work when all points are available at exactly the right moment. It’s - just like good positioning - part of the class flavour. And just like all the other little bad things that can get removed from a game, it’s the differences and difficulties and not-optimal things that add up to the whole taste of it.

I enjoyed the “sticky combopoints” too - for a while. But it adds up. Now retail: Basically every class has an irrelevant “ressource” and “some kind of combopoints” and “some CP spender”.

I think it’s good to say “if you don’t like the pacing of the class, try a different one”. Because not everyone can play a rogue then, but maybe not everyone wants to. It’s like there NEEDS to be a difference in pace/requirements/level of engagement/premeditation/ressource management/logistics in the classes. Or you end up with “paladin is just a rogue with yellow stuff and no stealth” and “rogues are basically warriors with one more button” … “shadowpriest is basically a mage is a warlock just with different spell names” … and yes, the moronic CP on target disadvantage of the rogues are a disadvantage ONLY ROGUES HAVE. And thats - in the grand scheme of class design - very good.

I got High Warlord as a rogue in vanilla PvP. Tell me again how I didn’t play enough.

Oh god, those were the times. Never made it past the “full blue armor” due to having to do other stuff (study), but I was a regular in one of our warlord-making groups. Getting there with “just barkeep shanker and felstriker” as my daggers… would have loved those high WL ones, but just the few hours of sleep and university was too much time off. Still, good times. Interesting teamspeak sessions… so good.

16 hours a day of pvp for a month to get from Warlord to high Warlord and I somehow still had a girlfriend at the end of it O.o

In hindsight I should probably have married that one
