Commendation system

Understandable but those very comments refute your argument quite nicely. But I guess you just wanted to come in here, shout something in all caps and then sashay out like you just won the thread instead. You do you mate.

are you gonna tell me - no one would buy commendations?

people buy everything in this game.

even guild charter signatures LOL

Nah, you make it a secret vote so no one can see who voted for who.

Off topic:

I understand your argument, I’ve played FFXIV for a long time, even did Savage raids back in the day (equivalent of mythic in WoW) but you’re missing two important points.

First one is that your experience is about an alliance raid which is trivial content, so it makes sense nobody got mad at you because there’s nothing to win or lose, people just do it for the guaranteed XP rewards.

Second point is that WoW community is more demanding, and thus more prone to be toxic, especially when there’s gear a.k.a character progression involved.

I remember reading a comment on some forum (can’t remember which) that said the following “In WoW I expect basic competency, in FFXIV I’m surprised by it”. That’s 100% accurate.

On topic:

Commendation system is kinda pointless in WoW as of right now. For this kind of system to be effective we should have something like the mentor system in FFXIV, which we do not.

As this system is not abuseable in ffxiv I’d beg to differ and did explain why:

Final Fantasy has a comendation system and you cannot commend anyone you queued with. You can only commend players who end up in your group as a result of the match-making system.

If Square-Enix can do the above then I see no reason why Blizzard cannot.

EDIT: Also in Final Fantasy you cannot see how many commendations you got until you leave the instance, and the game does not tell you who gave them to you.

This will get abused just like the report system itself with forum regulars and people with whom they agree with, rewarding each other. They already flag the same posts and comment on the same things. This will be no different.

This is about an in game commendation system.
Also 2 people have extensively explained how ffxiv does this with it being 100% unabuseable.

Titanic was unsinkable as well. Do you remember what happened to that?

The commendation system in that game has been out for 11 years now and has not been abused. The titanic didn’t last as long.

I haven’t read the entire thread, but 99% of its use in other games has been to send a commendation to one’s friend, regardless of their behaviour.

Not to mention that people would not use it to commend a player who helps others, but a player who deals the most dps. Also there would be lots of cases where players would exchange commendations (“plz vote me so I vote you”).

And in the case of no tangible rewards, the crushingly vast majority would not even spend the 2 seconds to send a commendation to anyone. I mean, in 95%+ of pug groups, 2 or more people leave the group within 0.5 seconds of the final boss dying. Gotta optimize my gaming session, bro! Time not spent grinding is time wasted, bro!

Usually in other games those are systems i completely ignore. It has no value.

I think it could be a cool system that would also help navigate the few “toxic” individuals.

For instance I would have a npc in the Capital (Dornogal atm) where you can go to and give a honor/commondation to a party member you finished an activity with recently. You’ll see all players you’ve partied with recently and be able to select them to either report them or leave a commondation.

This would be mark with social points, and there would be multiple things you can accomodate people for, your personal score being a tally of all of them and being public so other players can see your record as well as how they enjoyed their time being grouped with you.

This system would be account tracked and be visible to all players via a “Player Reputation” button when you right click a portrait.

I think this would be useful in many ways when deciding who you want to play with, as well as motivate players to do their best and have a general sense of positivity or comradery overall, not so much as a personal “Hey good job.”, more of a “Hey, I’m not a waste of space to play with.”.

I personally am unsure on if I would add rewards to this system, seeing as I wouldn’t know how to regulate fair rewards to this.

So if I queue into a random m+ I get commendations first run but if we decide to go next key we don’t? So we’ll just abandon every single group after 1 run and never again make friends to play with?

You would likely not prioritize the commondation over the actual good team. i mean hopefully not, depends on what you prioritize I guess.

If you need good commendations to get invited to keys yes you would.

Also I don’t understand all this talk about “Oh it works in FFXIV”, like okay? Good for you I guess but this isn’t FFXIV and the games are nowhere near in how the playerbase plays the game.
