Complaint: WoWC Beta, stress tests and 15th Anniversary Collectors Edition

Hello,

I know that, whilst many people will agree with me, I am going to be majorly flamed by a number of people for posting this thread. However, I have been instructed by a GM to create a topic of my own with my feedback for the developers who, I am assured, ARE checking the EU forums, though I remain dubious.

If any GMs want to check ticket ID # 66340332, they can verify for themselves that the GM told me to post my feedback both here and, because I have an active subscription, on the BfA forums because I raised very valid and understandable points.

I won’t be replying to this thread or the inevitable attacks, I’m simply leaving this here in the hopes that the developers see this, and the other complaints, and act accordingly. To all those in advance, who will play the ‘entitled’ card and other insults: if people like me didn’t post threads like this and in volume, we wouldn’t have a Classic in the first place. Only by voicing these complaints and in volume will Blizzard listen, and despite what the ‘wall of no’ trolls always used to say, Blizzard will eventually listen and act.

I have been a player since 2004. I have bought and played every single expansion, and bought a number of collectors editions. I have bought a ton of digital content and tokens from the store. I have bought TGC stuff and other merch. I would consider myself a high spend customer.

Sure, like many people, I have taken breaks for whatever reasons, but I have played every expansion and I have an active subscription now even though I don’t play much. I don’t like BfA one bit and tend to farm collectables and chat to friends. My subscribed time far outweighs my break time.

I have never, ever, been invited to a beta. The only beta access I’ve ever been given is when it’s been included in a preorder bonus type thing like the Annual Pass and MoP beta.

For me personally, Cataclysm ruined WoW for me. I still played, but from day one I voiced my desire for a ‘Classic’ WoW. I have been very active in campaigning for WoW Classic since the earliest days. I have NEVER and will never play on a private server. I don’t pirate things, I still buy all of my music even…every last single. I don’t torrent etc., it’s just not in my nature. Let me tell you, given my passion for WoWC, it’s been hard to stick to that principle, especially reading so many good things about Nost etc.

I am therefore very disappointed, as I see many others are similarly and understandably, to have not received a beta invite for something that I fought so hard to convince you to make in the first place.

I played WoW from the beginning and raided hardcore all the way through to Cata. I have a good knowledge and understanding of how the game was and should be. From the earliest days, I regularly sent feedback and bug reports, which I continue to do whenever I play and notice a problem.

I think that in order to recreate the authentic WoW 2004-5 experience, you need people who played during that time in your beta. I feel that anyone and everyone who has posted on these forums campaigning for WoWC has earned the right to be part of its development and thus beta test it. If It were not for our persistence and passion, WoWC would not even be a thing. Despite the constant trolling and flaming and the spamming of the ‘wall of no,’ we persisted and now we have Classic despite being categorically told it would never happen - even by you Blizz.

Yes I have a sense of entitlement and I am proud of it. I have invested so much into WoW over the last fifteen years and I feel that that warrants inclusion in beta testing a game I have fought long and hard to help make a reality. I don’t want to watch streamers and their fans running around being wiped out by Ragnaros or whatever. I want to be in the game, playing it, testing the quests, the professions, the NPCs, the PvP, everything and feeding back on every single bit of it. I want to be included in the active development of my favourite game of all time. I think I’ve earned that. I don’t care about other beta tests, just Classic.

I feel like it’s a massive kick in the teeth and that we’re not respected, appreciated or wanted, when people like me, old school WoW players who campaigned for Classic, are left out of its development.

I think it’s very shady of Blizzard to state that having an active subscription is a massive boost to your chances of getting a beta invite and no doubt you will see a big increase in subs from that date. However, I would hope that you would monitor that and take note of those of us who do not play BfA but who subscribed just out of desperation to participate in the development of our beloved Classic.

I bought a Blizzcon ticket PURELY for the demo access (and despite what anyone says, because of how long it ended up running, it was worth it) and I played the demo every day. Again, I sent you a ton of feedback and bug reports.

I got a pity invite to a stress test, but that was an ordeal on it’s own. I think it’s highly unfair that the stress tests are being held at such awkward hours for Europeans and that they’re bias in favour of NA players. 1-3am CEST is not fair at all. The next stress test on 29th, whilst less harsh, is still 11pm-1am CEST (I think). Don’t American’s work mornings? Why can’t you hold stress tests at 8-12pm PDT, which would work out at 2pm-6pm UK time or 3pm-7pm CEST. Then that’s a reasonable time for everyone surely?

During the last stress test, I couldn’t even get past the character creator until 5:30am CEST. Whilst people keep arguing it’s a stress test and not game play, I direct them to the e-mail which states ‘play levels 1-5’ and does not, anywhere, mention that this is either conditional or only a ‘maybe’, ‘chance’ or other dubious possibility. Nor does it state anywhere that it is a test of the log in server only and not the realm and zones themselves. The e-mail is misleading and baiting by offering level 1-5 game play. I did eventually get to play, and sent a log of bug reports and feedback. Unlike many, who just stood in one place wiping on ?? bosses, I actually went out and tested everything that I possibly could in Teldrassil and fed back on it. I maintain that I would be an ideal beta tester. I get that you wanted to test the stress on the servers with a billion level ones and Ony in one place, but given I couldn’t log on, the best I could was bug check the next day.

I think you need to hold some EU friendly stress tests and hope that future ones might be a little more accommodating for us and not be held when we’re exhausted and about to go to bed. I want to participate, I want to help out, but asking us to do so at 00:00am-2:00am is unreasonable. I also doubt the validity of any data you collect when you make it so awkward and in cases impossible for Europeans to participate. You can’t base development solely on data you collect from NAs, who are probably more readily available than Europeans because of the time slots you have selected.

Finally, I am disappointed with the Collectors Edition stock problem, as I see many other hundreds of people are on social media. I was very annoyed to get a NEW news feed advert about the CE, A DAY AFTER it had already gone out of stock.

I don’t know what other people do, but I don’t have the gear store open on my machine 24/7. By the time I heard of the CE, it was out of stock. I have checked the list of websites in the blue post and can’t find any that have an option to translate the page to English and so I do not know if they even post to England of if the box etc., would even be in English. I’ve been checking GAME and Amazon constantly. I’ve had three notifications from my Amazon app that the CE is available to preorder and each time I’ve immediately gone online and it’s been back to ‘unavailable.’

As a person who has campaigned for Classic since day one of Cata, having this is non-negotiable to me. I MUST own it. Please get enough stock to reflect the demand and please stop posting new adverts for out of stock items.

As someone who’s spent thousands on WoW since 2004, I expect better treatment. I expect my loyalty to you and my monetary and time investments in your products and services to be rewarded with a little more inclusion in things like this and to not be made to feel ostracised. I don’t see anything wrong with pride and entitlement, IF it’s actually justified and has been earned, which I feel it has.

All WoWC campaigners should be given beta access. All ‘wall of no’ spammers should be, if in any, the last wave of beta invites. How disgusting and insulting it is, having people who constantly personally attacked us and spammed the ‘wall of no’ every time we asked for Classic, beta testing the very game they tried to spam out of existence.

Feel free to comment, but I won’t be replying. This feedback is aimed at the developers and is posted only because a GM told me it would be helpful for all to do so, so I am not interested in arguments and flaming.

Thank you.

EDITED for extra context and typos.

They really ahouldn’t, they have done nothing out of the ordinarynto deserve it.

They have as much right as you for an invite, juat because they disagree with you doesn’t mean they can just be ignored.

I pre ordered mine through Gamestop, a crap place I know but it had the pre order available.

Yeah I’ve had bad experiences there. I would risk it for WoWC though, but it’s coming up 0 results :'(.

…such a long wall of text only because you didn’t win the beta test lottery?..

Went to a physical store, it’s worth a shot if you really want it. Besides then it’s in your local currency too so. =)

I keep Googling it but apart from Amazon UK, which keeps swapping from pre-order to immediately unavailable, I can’t find it anywhere in the UK  unless I’m totally missing somewhere xD.

Ye as I said, didn’t find it online anywhere so got my fat bum in the car and drove to a physical store.

I do wish people that are actually interested in playing Classic would get some sort of priority in receiving beta invites. However, you have to consider the logistical side of things too: Blizzard are bound to simply create an algorithm that selects players, not handpick old threads to see who was more militant and who wasn’t. We can only hope that as more invites waves come up, you will also get into the beta.

Are you in the UK? I’m not sure where to go to be honest. Our local Game closed years ago, we only have a CEX in town. I guess if the Game website doesn’t have it, their stores won’t but I could go to the next town and ask them.

People complaining about not getting beta should get to have an chance to play classic in august 2020

Still 90+ days = 3months+ before classic out so calm down.
If you took part in beta in 2004 you know full well how the stress test back then went .
Everytime you logged in or tried to connect or made a char it sent valueable data to them.
Just because you couldnt level 1 to 5 means nothing .
Jusy because me and you played and paid since 2004 means nothing not one jot.
And if anyone from blizzard to told you to post in General which isnt a BFA forum btw then they are wrong when there is 100s of threads whining about same thing in the classic forums.

I didn’t know where best to post it but yes they told me to post it in a BfA forum too because I have an active sub. I should have asked why but if they say it’s ok, I’m ok with the added visibility. But any GMs reading this can see in that ticket what was advised :).

Its NOT a BFA forum its a GENERAL forum .
By posting on GD your leaving yourself wide open to people who dont care or hate classic so be warned.
As for the rest of your post im sorry but i question if you were with us in 2004 because
1)you would understand stress test
2) the times wouldnt be new to you

As I said I’ve never been invited to a beta since 2004 so I wouldn’t know what times were, at least I can’t remember from that far back of any issues like this. My only ever beta access was MoP as part of the Annual Pass and this first stress test.

I understand what a stress test is but they baited us in the e-mail by directly implying that the test was guaranteed game play of level 1-5, so making it sound like they were testing the realm server and the zones themselves rather than just the log in server, which is very different. Whilst streamers and their subs got realm server access, we were all rejected by the login servers.

I’m not very familiar with the forums, what would a BfA forum be? I did look for one jus titled ‘BfA’ but couldn’t see one. I’m happy to move the post but am not sure where to.

It’s ok, I’m ignoring any bait from anyone to argue and just replying to civil discussion.

Good luck and i hope you get Beta

Well even thou I didn’t get the beta I am really satisfied for getting the stress test I had so much fun pure nostalgia for classic found many like minded people who enjoy something different in a good way to this expansion sent a good feedback and sent a few bug reports so I thank them with all my heart and soul for giving me the opportunity to stress test at least.

EU, our nearest shopping mall had a Gamestop store.

Do you have any Gamestops ? Games did go bankrupt so no wonder if you can’t find Games. =p

TL/DR but from the gist of it…Wah didn’t get into Beta.
