Concerned about hero talents and TWW

Hello,

It seems that hero talents are not what players want

  • They are not class skins
  • They are not exciting/impactful enough, but just add some minor flavor

The feedback I’ve seen so far on forums, social media, videos, etc. has been mostly negative or indifferent. Nobody seems to be overly excited about these talents. They are less interesting and game-changing than the regular talent tree talents.

The more talent trees and details are revealed, the worse player reception seems to be.

Let me be perfectly clear: I understand how Blizzard have positioned hero talents, what the design goals are, and that they are delivering exactly as promised.

I want TWW to be a big success and the best for WoW as a whole.

Hero talents are not it. They are currently not creating any hype and excitement. Most players will be disappointed when they discover what they are in reality. The whole feature might backfire because it does not meet players’ expectations.

Please take more risks and make hero talents better. They are too safe and subdued.

Cheers

I think 90% of the problem is that they’ve called them Hero Talents, so we’re expecting something amazing.
They don’t sound like they’ll be any more impactful than max level talents.

Problems come when expectation isn’t matched by delivery. This happened with BFA when it was billed as a massive conflict between the Factions and all we got were some WQs in a mini scenario type thing every other day.

Absolutely, these are not hero talents at all!

I can’t wait to be Dark Ranger, and have Black Arrow - the third ability in my kit that will reset the cooldown of Barbed Shot!

How is that even remotely exciting or interesting?!? These are not hero talents. These are lesser-than-regular talents.

Hero talents need to be cool and amazing, and something players will be looking forward to

A lot of people don’t want borrowed power again. So I guess this is why they aren’t overpowered abilities that make the rest of the game meaningless again.

While that is true that we may have had the idea of class skin type things,we had acces to one of them from the getgo and we could tell exactly what it was, at no point were we underdelivered, but you stated that fair enough.

Personally I would wait till we see more, personally I think the ones we recieved are actually not that bad, for instance oracle, alot of people dislike pi but personally it looks fun and I am lvling a priest for the inevitable scenario I want to play them in TWW.

There are a few key ones that are important to me and I want to see, ergo fatebound and the ones connected to feral as well as spellslinger and alot of others, there is still so much we dont know, to make a fully fledged opinion on about 10-20% of the actual system is strange, not to mention this is pre-alpha, sooo they are not only possible to change, it’shighly likely.

One important thing is simply, are they gonna add fun to my game, and from what I’ve seen they might, this depends on the effect and feel in game of course. So I’d wait off before telling them what to do, maybe till alpha atleast, if they are still bad then we go and start being like “Ayo can you not?”

I’m still waiting to see what I get. Unless I missed it, I’ve not seen what Ret’s Hero talents are yet.

Rn we have 9 out of 39, so I’m gonna hold out hope

Yes, I know we haven’t seen it all yet, but facts are facts: what we’ve seen so far has received lukewarm reception at best.

When they revealed “hero talents” and showed the names of the new talents, people were excited with crazy theories what each might be. The more stuff they revealed, the more disappointed people have been when they finally got to see what is behind Dark Ranger or Mountain Thane etc… which are all super boring full of little passive effects

I want the game to be good. I want players to be hyped and return for TWW. Hero talents are not having that effect atm.

I’m waiting to see what Warlock gets before I decided to continue with this character or drop it for something else, which I may find enjoyable in the next expansion.

dont go down that road, that is purely subjective to your bubble, to say that that satement is fact is to say you speak for all wow players, ver bad for when you’re trying to argument your point.

people still are, I have no idea what fatebound is or if spellweaver will give mages a windwalker mastery passive, but that’s just the thing, this is also why leaks and whatnot are bad in my opinion, if you release it this slow, the playerbase will be dissapointed, because the players are building unrealistic expectations and when the expectations hit reality it’s a bit hard, seeing as we dont know anything fully yet, no actives have cooldown the numbers will change, nothing is set in ston yet.

I do too, which is why I would like to explain to you that your view might not be shared by all, which should be a good thing for you, it means some people are happy and are excited for the future.

Yes, therre will always be misses and it would be unfortunate, however there are definetely the good ones, don’t forget, the meta is wild and unpredictable, the thing you want to try will become meta before you know it because someone change a 1 to a 2, the question is if they are fun implementations and this we do not know yet.

I want to be excited, but everywhere I look there’s negativity about the hero talents. Literally. Twitter, youtube, forums, fan forums…

I’ve yet to see anyone hyped inside “my bubble”. Go to the class forums. Read MMO Champion. From what I’ve seen, nobody likes the new talents - paladins hate theirs, hunters… don’t get me started, warriors hate it, druid - super disapponted reviews - supatease and all that, I’ve yet to see someone to say “OMG can’t wait to play this”. Not a single one.

I play hunter and I can tell you - the hunter tree that was revealed is horrible. I’ve read all the talents 10 times and I struggle to remember any of them except for “Black arrow” and the one that summons “shadow hounds” because they were all so boring and meaningless and minor passive effects.

Now is the time to generate hype for the next expansion. I want my friends who quit to think “I have to return for this!”.

Maybe you’re right and I’ve only picked up on the negativity inside my bubble, and there are many more who silently like the hero talents and can’t wait to play them, I don’t know, but I’m telling you - this is not good. Everything you read on the internet and watch on youtube says “underwhelming” this is not how you build excitement for TWW

I know Blizzard said “We don’t want hero talents to have a big impact on the way you play your spec - just add some flavor”, but this won’t cut it - that’s not what players want.

Players want something exciting

There are 10 hero talents, so what exactly is the difference between this, and gaining 10 levels in every other expansion?

The difference is the way it is marketed - Hero talents and the expectation it creates and the abrupt realization people will have that these talents do not turn you into a dark ranger or mountain king, but add some shadow damage to your hunter attacks or some nature damage to your warrior attacks and that’s it.

So it will backfire - hype up people and have them crash down.

These hero talents are worse than the regular talents, they need to be more exciting and better.

Still early development, I’ll whine when I see the final ones.

The problem is the design premises Blizzard have set - they explicitly said these talents are not meant to be impactful, but flavorful.

In fact, people want these talents to be super exciting and impact their gameplay a lot - not to add 1 new ability and some minor passive effects

They should have been called Flavour Talents. Expectation Management is something they need to learn.

Since you get all of them, and one per level in the new expac, why they are not just “talents”?

what i find the biggest problem is that its not themed hard enough, i want the class fantasy back to the OG lenght, where you easily see who is what and that you also feel like you are playing your actual class.

Haha saw this comments in one of the videos linked above:

“When people got excited about dark ranger they were excited about looking like sylvanas from the bfa cinematic in game not in getting an extra dot and having their aimed shot proc aoe damage occasionally.”

Made me lol

Pretty sure mogs exist that let them do this already :stuck_out_tongue:
