Consider disabling the Auction House, mail, and trading

Hello everyone,

Please consider disabling the Auction House, Mail, and Trading system in Hardcore Classic.

There are several points to consider if they remain enabled:

  • Leveling alt characters would become much easier.
  • Trading enchanted items or powerful Bind on Equip (BoE) items among guild members would become a common occurrence.
  • Twink gear would be readily available, making the game significantly easier.
  • Bots would return to Classic, and gold trading would once again become a major issue.
  • The true feeling of Hardcore WoW would be ruined by these features, and players would be forced to use third-party addons as they currently do.
  • SSF (Solo Self-Found) is an important aspect of Hardcore WoW and should be maintained even during the official development of this game mode.

Thank you!

I want traiding and AH.
It is good to have the option since all players have the same rules.
SSF isnt HC its a just personal challenge.
There is a reason why people play an MMO and not a Singleplayer Game.

The only reason for SSF was part of that you never knew if the player who farmed this Item was playing HC.
So now everybody plays HC so there is no good reason not to have traiding.
Also i played on full HC P-servers and this never was an issue.
I dont get why some try to enforce rules on everybody.
You can play how ever you like so can everybody else,

OP, don’t enforce your HC rules onto everyone, if you want to play that way, fine, but I don’t.

That’s not true at all. SSF is there to prevent you from being overgear by another high level player. It is absolutely not about knowing if the item was farmed in SC.

If you keep a way to make your life easier by having help from others, such as getting items you could not have by yourself, you will diminish the appeal people have for HC. Because you never if know the player was “legit” or if he was just overgeared by his guild.

Edit : and btw, the ones that try to enforce a new rule (AH and mail are ok) are you guys, not the ones that want what made HC popular.

Perhaps a level cap on AH could do it ? Or a transaction limit before a given level ? I feel either fully authorizing or full closing the door is not the way to go imho.

Of course, level cap is the way, lvl 60.
Like it is now on the mod.

(TL;DR at the bottom)
Alright, so I’m really exited about this game, and wanted to give my two cents.
Personal preferences aside, disabling or restricted trading/AH in Hardcore has the opportunity to create a truly everlasting MMO experience.

Classic WoW as a game has the leveling progress as arguably it’s strongest aspect, far more than any expansion. With no ability to trade at lower levels this part of the game would be held in stasis, with someone picking it up on launch having the same challenge and experience as someone doing so 3 years from now.

For this reason I am not against allowing players to group, no matter how many times a group of 5 kills Hogger, it won’t trivialize the efforts of someone doing it later down the line. Because Hogger kills, for lack of a better way to describe it, don’t stack.

Gold does.

Making a new character, even a couple months after release, will have you spawn right beside other level 1’s with four 12-slot bags, a couple hundred gold, enough materials to level whatever profession they choose to max and BOE’s lined up in their mailbox for when they reach the levels when they can equip them. These players will steamroll through the content, die far less, and if I know the WoW community, exclude players who aren’t doing the same from dungeon groups. (even moreso in HC now that their alts are on the line)

Whatever you personally prefer, you have to admit that this drives away new players and is bad for the general longevity of the game. We’ve seen the same thing happen with previous releases of Classic. FOMO drives players to do all the content as quickly as possible, players who don’t have the skill/time/will to do the same fall behind, potential new players don’t even bother with how much of a disadvantage they’d have and the population quickly declines.

Some players won’t mind of course, happy to go on their own journey with whatever self-imposed rules they fancy, completely unbothered by the level 5 in full greens with three times as much health as them. But these players honestly don’t need an official hardcore server at all.

TL;DR: In short, Classic HC could be a healthy game basically forever, with no need for resets because the ruleset keeps it in perpetual early game. The place where Classic shines. Allowing trading/AH lessens this, as veteran players’ new characters will have a massive advantage.

So u want to delete the game modes entire replayability factor to ensure the least amount of people get through it or do it, so u can feel more special.

Sounds like a terrible idea.

Actually no. Your deeply wrong and mixing game modes.

Hardcore, means no deaths.

Iron man, means no gear / trade / AH.

Uve decided to mesh these both into one for some weird reason. Absolutely 0 of everything uve said regarding the hardcore modes aspects.

As its nothing to do with the game mode.

But hardcore isnt iron man. Your asking for a completely different game mode added to HC,

Hardcore has never been more then simply 0 deaths allowed. Players over time have made game types alike it to make things harder, hence Iron man.

But these sorts of additional challanges are for the community to partske in, not for blizzard to enforce.

Everyone shojld have the right to play the game mode as they wish. If u dont like it, dont do it. Simple as that.

Why must playera strip others of how they want to play to justify their own play.

You wonder why every mmorpg is becoming a theme park mmorpg and sandbox mmorpgs are dying out, and ur exactly why.

Ur not happy unless the game IS enforcing it. The concept of playing the game as u want to do and doing what u want, is lost. Because ur too busy caring what others are doing to pause for 5 seconds and actually enjoy whst ur doing.

I was merle in the last post, don’t know why it selected a char I haven’t played in 5 years

I wasn’t arguing for Iron Man, equip all the gear you can get your hands on. All I want is for players to be on equal playing field.

Something that’s ruined by players with big guilds, high level alts, or people who simply buy from the inevitable 3rd party gold sellers.

I know Hardcore only stipulates permadeath, and even with the current ruleset I’m sure I’ll still enjoy that.

That being said, if you claim to like sandboxes and don’t want Hardcore to be a theme park, you should be against trading/AH.

Time and time again Classic players have chosen the path of least resistance and optimized the game to no end. The Hardcore rules heavily incentivize maxing out your character in the best gear for your level, something that will be trivial for a portion of the player base in a matter of months and a massive time investment for other/new players.

If trading/AH is allowed, you doing your own thing will put you leagues behind the curve and likely excluded from any serious form of group play. I.E. conform to the meta or get lost.

On the opposite side, if every character was restricted to acquiring their own gear, with no option of outside help. It would create unique experience every play through, the green wand that drops at level 12 means something, instead of you having the BIS item for levels 12-22 already prepared before the character is created.

Edit: A compromise that could fix all of what I was talking about could be make it so no gear is BoE pre-60. You can trade mats, bags, consumables and vanity items. Though if you want good profession gear you have to craft it yourself, and you can’t rely on the AH or your guild for world drops. This is what meaningfully makes characters more powerful and essentially enables ‘easy mode’ for some down the line. Bag space and ability purchases are a matter of convenience, something I’m okay with alts being able to enjoy.

When theres 0 competition, and a system which will only benefit long after thr hypes faded as we are talking quite a longhaul plan here.

Why is it relevent?

Allow players to engsge with a system how they feel. A level playing field has never existed in mmorpgs, which at core are based on rewarding players for time spent in the game, which this at heart is very much.

Ur arguing against the core purpose of a mmorpg

And no it shouldnt be enforced. Everyone had the rights to play the game based on what they want.

This isnt a competition, therefore a level playing field simply isnt important.

I think what you fail to grasp is why hardcore servers are coming in a first place.
You need to understand that if there is so much people against AH/trade is because the hype around hardcore was made by seeing people fail, a lot.

It won’t be as popular if players make their life easier. Hardcore was popular because it was a hard and disciplined journey.
If you don’t want the challenge, why bother coming to hardcore my dude? Nobody cares about a dumbed down hardcore mode.

mark my words: nobody will care if we see everyone trade the best items and cruise through the content. Popularity of this mode is also made by streamers and youtubers, and they will 100% let their community help them, hence lowering the hype around hardcore.
What we want and need is an infinite fun world that won’t be ruined by gold sellers and twinks e-v-e-r

You have the option to make ur life easier. Or the option to engage with the game mode as you wish.

The hypes only “dying” because u care too much about what others are doing in the game.

Already is, already will be.

Once ur crew of 60s have reached into hc end game, players can sell boosts to those tryinf to climb and suddenly you can buy your way to max level, or lean on a friend.

Those that will go for the ease and drive to dumb it down, will do so regardless of how many hoops u enforce them to jump through.

Accept the inevitable and simply care about your own fun and how you wish to engage the game.

Attaching railings to the game is only another method of dumbing things down, and will inevitably just double down on the games theme park nature.

I’m starting to think you never played hardcore tbh

Lol.

Based in the fact i simply dont care what others do?. Interesting take. But not a strong one.

Wow was always about the fame of knowing people did “tough” content. Making something easier always reduce hype and pleasure to know you did it (or others).

What I don’t understand if you guys use “social” as an argument to let people trade, but refuse to see that it is social behaviors that make us enjoy playing wow, the sense of achievement and recognition by others.

Edit : When was the last time anyone enjoyed LFR for example?

I dont use social behaviours as a argument.

I engage as i please and accept a % of players will abuse systems to make their life easier.

D4 litterally showed how fast players will abuse said systems with the groups of streamers (such as shroud) who abused a easymode levelling method to make the mode a joke.

Recognition?

How can u give any recognition in this game. Among ebay accounts, to power levelling, to boosting.

Im sorry, but thats gone.

Yea, like I said, you don’t really grasp how hardcore managed to be that popular these past few months. That is exactly because they couldn’t cheat their way while streaming.

Of course some people gonna find a meta, but hear me out : let’s not give them right away.

“I engage as i please” was never true, you engage as the devs want.
I just analyze, with my experience, that it will not be as successfull as it can be with this new set of rules. I know that some people will enjoy it more, but overall it will hurt the hardcore community and fail to use the hype correctly. you will 100% see people refuse you in dungeon because you didn’t buy enough items and are a risk for them, forcing players to engage in toxic behaviors.

So ueah a non argument lol.

I have a perfect grasp on how hardcore has been popular. Accepting players are sc*m and addicted to cheating achievements. Isnt a lack of a grasp.

Its accepting the problems with a game thats ONLINE trying to use the game mode.

P.s there are litteral addons and more which will prove you to have partook in HC with these rules in mind.

The reason HC has remained pure is because it isnt offically supported so its a niche in the audienxe partaking OPTIONALLY

Opening the flood gates to the masses as a offical game mode however is going to make the water dirty alone

Why bother make hardcore servers then? Why bother take 90% of the rules except AH and Trade?

They are -literally- trying to please the hardcore community and make it official to bring players back.
I watched the dev stream, they had some really bad arguments for AH / Trade and did not fully understand why it was a bad idea. Us discussing it on the forum is really important and I hope they will consider looking at all the debat.

Such a non argument? Yet you still talk about how you accept cheaters, while it was people not being able to cheat that made it popular. (Of course there was cheaters, but a minority)
Here, they are literally giving the right to cheat.

You seem to hate people and be very cynical, why do you bother debatting and trying to argue in the first place? I don’t get it?
