Continue playing my current Classic character on my existing server as it progresses to the Burning Crusade expansion, but also keep my character on a Classic server that won't progress past 60

It cannot be just transfer. People will get to Outland, get some OP items, and then transfer back to patch 1.x? Or maybe it will become a project 60 realm on patch 2.x?

NO.

Here is how I am seeing it:

  1. Shut down Classic servers for a maintenance
  2. Duplicate each Classic server
  3. Progress one copy of each server into patch 2.0.1 (pre-patch, not TBC yet)
  4. Open both Classic and TBC servers.

So, our characters will be on both servers, but progress won’t carry over from one to another. Server merges may be needed, though.

That is one long title.

There should be an option ingame to copy your character to a TBC realm, no matter it’s level. The TBC realms should not just start at 58 but have an option to make a new character and start at 1 or copy a sub 58 character across, and obviously you are only able to copy a character once.

Of course the problem with copying like that is people will mail their gold to one character transfer it, mail it to another character then transfer that, etc. The obvious thing to do would be make TBC realms and then Blizzard copy every character across on a certain date.

I also think they should copy the server structure Classic has, realms and all. So if you are on Firemaw Classic you can only go to Firemaw TBC.

Im pretty sure what Blizzard mean by transfer is a character copy and of course you cannot transfer anymore after obtaining TBC items.

Well, the survey will answer what most people want but… I’d think… yeah. On maintenance do a 1:1 copy, roll the 2.01 patch on the copy.

Some people will prefer to stay vanilla forever, cool.
Some people will want to move on, also cool.

So… once the dust settles, look at free server migrations to round up realm numbers to reasonable levels on both sides (vanilla and tbc realms). Folks can make sensible choices with that, you eventually end up with the same (active) population on the same number of servers only now some are headed into the expansions, some are “stuck” in vanilla.

That seems the best way to please the largest number of people. It causes the least grief (loosing friends in single character transfers as ppl go in different directions, there’s no “our guild are moving to XXXX” type stuffs to sort out) so… probably the most sensible way forward.

2 things keep people attached to WoW: Their character and their social group. Do whatever keeps these working the easiest.

No thanks, the way they handle things today, even how they handle classic is horrible. If you trust them to make anything remotely decent after naxx you’re sorely mistaken.

That ship has sunk already, didn’t you get the memo? :joy:
