Cornered By Discord Users

Yeah i was about to ask this very thing, not once have i been prompted to “pay up” when entering a Discord group, and if i ever were, i would Nope outa there faster than a Hispanic sandal flies

Simple; you enter their free Discord and they ask you to pay for a membership and if you pay you get an invite to a channel or another server that is for paid members only. This is actually very common practice for many online services like betting tips, personal training, yoga, dieting etc.

That sounds like a setup for a boosting community, more so than a raid guild which is what the OP seemed to be talking about.

first i’ve heard of this… But hey, if people are gullible enough that this conduct actually works, then i don’t know what to do but shrug really… Borderline on par with that long lost Nigerian prince uncle mail that goes around  pay at thy own peril…

After all, people will always look for that “quick buck” and the Gullible and/or Desperate are usually the first targets… Sounds like an absurd practice to me, but hey, if this happens and is like you said, Very common, then i would question that a bit, sinse i’ve never once seen it, and i’ve been in very VERY many different Guild Groups, to join their Voice-comms

EDIT: and like Coldshade said, that does sound like a boosting community rather than a Guild group/community.

Interesting as I really don’t see anything that would make me think the OP was talking about guilds at all. But perhaps that is because I’ve bumped into these servers quite a few times when I was playing classic.

It isn’t a guild or community Discord you are joining. It is just “Player X is running MC pug this Monday at 8pm servertime. Signups on Discord xyz.”

And just to clarify; it is very common for online services to have paid members only sections, chats or pages. Even these forums have (or at least had) sections you can only post to if you have an active sub.

How common is this for WoW classic? I’d say it depends on realm, but every week I had to pug I would end up placing someone on my ignore list after joining their server and being expected to pay for membership benefits. Never seen this on retail, but we have different issues when it comes to boosting anyway.

For someone who’s not played above level 20 on Classic, this part sounded like the OP was looking for a regular raid team:

I really do not know the Classic community too well, but luring someone in under the pretend of a regular raid group only to direct them to a boosting community sounds very, very odd. Retail boosters make it clear they’re selling carries in their trade chat/lfg ads.

They aren’t really a boosting community nor is the raid a boost run. It is just that they are more organized compared to usual pugs and paid members get priority when forming the group.

Oookay… this really just shows how little I knew of Classic’s community. Even after having played this game for years, I did not think anyone would come up with that. Or that there are people that would in fact pay these fees. Are they also expected to bring full consumables and perform to their very best in addition to paying for entering the raid in the first place, and get removed if they mess things up like you would from any other raid group?

If you’re dumb enough to pay money for a raid spot then you deserved it tbh.

im laughing, god. Why are u typing like this are some common issue, so f stupid thing to do.

“I joined a raid group that asks for payment from its members because the creators knew at least someone would be suckered into it. It’s obviously Discord’s fault.”

This line deserves a reward of some sort  Something similar to Ig Nobel or Darwin’s but for forum comments.
/me remembers how every second mm match is both teams sitting on LegitAA in doorways and shivers
Btw I’m still using Skype (in 2021 yes) and Discord in the background while running csgo and it doesn’t seem to me like I’m banned. Where did this idea come to you from?

Looks like there’s a good solution to the problem and you found it.

Also a server boost in Discord is not refundable, especially by other persons, so I don’t really see any RMT potential in this. Okay, you can now use… more gifs or have more emoji on your server? What’s the profit in this.

Must have been a quiet realm then as most classic servers pug MC ZG and BWL .

Everyone laughs at flat earthers until they get kidnapped and panic when they hear a voice saying “take him to the edge…”

Maybe you havent played recently
If you use Discord, you get ban  (in some cases)

Oh, I see. I never use overlays (or read news) :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Still, those third party apps are not completely “banned”, just forbidden to interact with the game directly.
Things like discord or other voice comms don’t really do that unless you want to use their overlay features.

I dont think blizzard can ban discord .they will be looking at a lawsuit .
Also if you ban discord .people will just find another app.
But I find it highly doubtful what op is saying .

Thank you! I found it. It’s good. :stuck_out_tongue: I caught the main guy’s videos once; I was fascinated. He’s a great narrator. I always thought that Flat Earth was a clever joke, in a very British way, like Mornington Crescent combined with a puzzle: “So you believe that the earth is round, but can you prove it?”

This dude was complaining about discord in another thread, I think this is just a follow on to try and make discords look bad.

I’ve never seen this behaviour on classic or live. And I don’t believe his statements true.

He’s just annoyed no one took his side when he made his first topic on discord and how he’s treated unfairly by people who expect him to use it

It rly isn’t as it is.

Why the hell would a guild demand money to use their discord

If anyone tried this I think you will find they will sit on a discord by themselves and have no raid. Lol discord is free for all

Your trying to push Ur agenda on others by “fearmongering” it’s ridiculous.
