Since Naxx is out and the most wanted RP sword is now available it’s time to make things clear… Is the lifesteal effect getting bonus damage/heal from Spell Damage?
This reads like a retadin making an argument for having priority on it! I like your style sir, getting your retaliation in first!
That aside do any weapon procs benefit from spell damage?
Life stealing effects happen to scale up with it. It works like this for the Ancient Hakkari Manslayer, for the Skullflame Shield and iirc also the Demon Forged Breastplate. In one of the older threads about this it said that Neretzek, The Blood Drinker didn’t scale though and that had ppl wonder if the Ashbringer was going to scale or not.
Apart any argument about drop priority I’d really like to know if it’s something worth getting also for its damage other than the RP value.
Big brain course of action is to give it to Paladin, have him wear full T2 and do paid RP tours of SM Cath! For the Light!
Neretzek, The Blood Drinker’s proc effect does not scale with Spell Damage.
There’s the thread for anyone curious. Blizzard doesn’t seem to have taken a stance on Corrupted Ashbringer, but according to the posters it’s the same effect, so that could be taken as a hint that it doesn’t scale. Only someone with the wep can confirm.
Yeah I know it wasn’t a bug, that’s why I’m asking if any1 already had the chance to test the Ashbringer.
The issue is that the Manslayer also has the same exact effect, the only difference between the 2 is being 1h/2h.
And I answered that.
I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to get the ashbringer. even IF the on hit effect scales with spelldamage.
reason 1) patchwork axe is a very nice retri items overall: decent weapon damage and 2% crit (crit is the no1 stat prio for rets in both PvE & PvP)
reason 2) MoM is just traight up BiS when it comes to 2h items, and a guild that kills 4H will kill KT
reason 3) -25 stammina will just hurt you in PvP no matter what. in special how burst heavy classic PvP is AND considering that paladins will always have atleast 1k less health than a geared warri in PvP. just go for MoM and get 46 stammina extra (i.e. 460 extra health) .
TL;DR
let the LARPERS have their assbringer. focus on getting MoM
That isn’t an answer though.

There is another weapon with the same name effect that DOES scale with Spell Damage (even though it’s a 1h, that’s why actual testing on the sword is needed).

You didn’t check Ashbringer yourself.
I gave you an answer that you are very unlikely to get an answer by asking randomly like this. It has only been out a few days, few guilds have even made it to 4hm, and even less have even seen it drop. I’m betting quite a few have gone to warriors as well, so there’s that too.
Literally only someone with the sword can confirm it for you. Well, unless Blizzard goes out of their way to clarify it. Which you should know by now, that they’re always unlikely to do.
that doesn’t really matter TBH, even IF it scales with spelldamage it will be worse than MoM
I mean just compare the PATCHWERK axe to ashbringer:
if we add the strength AP bonus for paladins to that axe it has a 376 top end damage (only 13 less than the ashbringer) and it stll got 2% crit AND postive stamina while being way more accessible than the ashbringer.
now compare it to MoM 446 top end weapon damage (with strenght bonus, with 3.8 weapon speed (which is IDEAL for ret due to higher seal of command procc chance) and still keeping 2% crit AND having 460 extra HP (710 extra HP when directly compared to the ashbringer).
=> MoM has more weapon damage, same amount of crit, WAY more HP directly compared to the ashbringer, and slower weapon speed (i.e. higher seal of command procc chance).
While patchwerk’s axe remains a viable “entry” level weapon alternative
I’m not implying in any way that the Ashbringer would be a better weapon than MoM, that thing is huge. It’s not about BiS, it’s just to know if we get this extra boon or not (and totally not be mad if we don’t get it).
yeah still unless you go for some wierd spelldamage focus ret build, you shouldn’t even consider ashbringer TBH.
Ret BiS will mostly be Avenger gear anyway, off pieces will be the pure melee ones. This means that we’ll be stacking some spell damage.
I played a holy-prot (reckoning) pala with a lot of spellpower gear with skullflame shield and ancient hakkari manslayer for the juicy lifesteal proccs in pvp. It’s so op vs physical dmg classes.
I wish there was a scaling two hand weapon that i could use against casters…
