Imagine a new fresh paladin gets his first spark, after some effort learns how to place crafting orders and then goes to AH to buy materials:
On my server (a highly populated one) If he wants to craft his plate boots, he will have to pay around 58k just for the materials, without missive, embelishment and the crafting fee!
He probably does not even have such amount of money, so he goes and check for the one handed mace and it is even worse 71.5k just in materials for a basic 606 ilvl mace!
While if he were a cloth wearer, he would have to pay for his 606 ilvl boots around 7.1k gold, 8 times cheaper than the plate boots, talk about unfairness!
I am personally a well off player and even for me these prices are ridiculous, for a more casual player who doesn’t pay real money for gold, these prices are abysmally unrealistic.
And the bulk of the reason for this absurdity comes to one single material - Sanctified Alloy
Sanctified alloy is a basic blacksmith material, necessary for all epic armor and weapons. Its AH cost on my server never goes lower than 5k per piece, even the lowest quality.
Why is it so expensive? Because crafting 2 pieces of Sanctified Alloy requires 1 Null Stone and 1 Profaned Tinderbox, among other things. That’s right, crafting the basic Blacksmith material requires 2 most rare and most expensive raw materials in TWW.
You may think crafters profit from this idiocy, but most of us don’t, because we get our knowledge points by completing patron orders (NPC orders that most of the time do not provide any materials) and for me personally 95% of patron orders require Sanctified Alloy. So basically to get 1 or 2 skill points or 10-30 Artisan Acuity, I have to spend 50-70k gold.
Who in Heaven’s name was designing this? Either make raw materials much more affordable and thus cheaper or change the material requirements for Sanctified Alloy.
If you agree with me, guys, please support my message so that maybe someone from Blizzard will see it.
Did you even read my message or only a title?
I explicitly pointed out that crafters do not gain profits from this, if anything blacksmith knowledge point gaining is severely hindered.
I feel this pain, but Sactified alloys are truly a pain to craft.
The amount of items needed to even just make one of these things is ridiculous, and what drives the price.
I’m not sure even if I will get to crafting everything at the moment, because gathering the materials is taking me forever, and I’m already getting better gear from the raids at this point. I’ll probably craft stuff for the unlocks, but that’s it.
Haven’t found professions useful at all the last three expansions.
Crafting used to be fun and simple:
Find pattern
Get bars
craft item
Now it feels like you’re spending weeks to just craft a single item, and for what?
I think the idea of this was that they looked at the biggest earners of crafters and then balanced the crafting order system around its sweatiest users (sound familiar?) and assumed they would reinvest gold made into the patron orders as a gold sink.
The issue is, the vast majority of profession players enjoy it as a side thing and are not sweaty about it.
This is all headcanon on my end, but it seems to me like the most logical explanation from a dev perspective if the token wasnt in the picture
Mats [stuff that stacks] are regionwide since DF iirc. That’s what we’re all coughing up for.
A single market creates an easier monopoly… people are buying up everything below a threshold to keep selling it above as long as there’s a demand to exceed supply.
Plus we’re restricted by concentration and limited acuities to produce higher quality stuff.
Its a shame to be honest. Im not a profession guy myself. But I get that people deserve a fun and engaging “side hustle”. Not some job to get filthy rich with fake pixel monopoly money.
Can you provide a link to the source where you got this information? The latest source I found speaks only of certain connected realms and my realm is not connected to anything.
In any case, that’s irrelevant for the current topic, tailoring (and also leatherworking) materials are much more affordable in comparison, the problem with BS materials lies specifically in the rarity of original raw materials.
I hate DF/TWW professions, this already started in Shadowlands tho because the legendary items had a ridiculously expensive progression path to get to crafting them at high ilvl and that’s also why they cost so much gold to buy on AH.
Blizzard trying to farm the RMT players through professions.
I have a gatherer and i make 60-90 k per hour even with the cut prices from 2 weeks ago
Herbs are at 2x less price and minerals are like 30/40% less. And even so you make profit .
Herb tier 3 are 180g to 250 g .
Minerals t3 only bismouth is worth at 150g.
Blue quality like null are sold for like 4k …
So how people complain that 50-60 k are a lot ? Perhaps they don’t play the game ?
I have a Bs/Lw…everything is free for me … + making a lot of profit .
So to the op …you don’t have any profession? You can make 30-50k with cloth if you farm followers dungeons …
Skinning …my warrior enter groups where you can easily make 40-60k per hour ( bees )
Inscription …tons of profits…
Enchanting even more …
This expansion if you have professions and you complain about the prices you simply don’t play the game .
I did not imply anything, I gave prices from my realm as an example, whether they’re server specific or regionwide is irrelevant in this context.
If regionwide Auction House were an issue, as you seem to claim, then tailoring & leatherworking materials would also be expensive, but they’re not and this is what I emphasized. Maybe read the original message before starting futile debates.
