Hi. I am relatively new to the game and I have a question regarding the chance to land a critical strike. When I open my spell book, I notice that my critical strike chance gets lower with each level I gain. I don’t think my critical strike chance actually decreases but I think it shows the chance to land a crit strike on a target that has the same level as you. For example, at level 1 I have 5% crit chance. At level level 2 I have a 4% crit chance. Now, this would mean that I have a 4% crit chance against a level 2 target, right? But my crit chance against a level 1 target would be higher than 4%. Sorry, I am really bad at explaining this but I want to know if your critical strike chance decrease overall when you level up or if the spell book only shows your crit chance against a target that has the same level as you.
Its because it scales, at max level it will function normally
Ah, ok, thanks for the answer
Just so you know, the critical strike shown in your spell book on your Attack button is only for melee attacks.
If you want to see your spell crit, you’ll need addons. It’s basically 5% plus any other “spell crit” from your gear.
Two things to remember:
- it only affects your spells if it says “spell crit”. If it says only “crit”, then it’s about physical attacks.
- by default, physical attacks crit for 2x of their normal damage and spells crit for 1.5x their normal damage. If a talent says “increase your bonus spell crit damage by 100%”, then this means your crits are now 1.5x + 0.5x = 2x
Its because it compares your current weapon skill to default defense skill of same level mob. You need to max your weapon skill then it will show exactly 5% default + bonuses.
Is this a classic or BfA question? Got a feeling its for BfA?
The addon referred to is “Extended Character Stats” and is very useful, at least in my opinion
Good luck.
