With the Inky potions people can choose whether or not they want it darker. I’d say that’s pretty darn nice. I sure as heck find it adds a lot of atmosphere to events without my blind eyes having to strain during late night gameplay.
Yeah, ngl I rarely use the IBPs, mostly 'cos I can’t see a damn thing and that gets in the way of my immersion and enjoyment.
Yes, I realise CRP is a totally different beast and could be much easier fixed by an opt-in menu function that only worked outside of PVP. BUT, in the absence of that, I will take this potion as SOMETHING over NOTHING. Will I keep calling for True CRP? Of course. Am I grateful for the thing we got when we could have got nothing? Yes.
I agree the potion needs some work. I think the best thing blizzard can do is work with Cross RP’s author to try and integrate it into in game so that we can use the features like seeing other trps and /e but right now something is better than nothing as you said.
Personally I’d suffer ** in /s if in the future there’s more coming. It’s no worse than us using raid to emote so our DM can see atm
Oh it sure is a nice thing to have. Im only trying to say that i think that blizzard has taken the easy route to solve these things. But it could have been so much better if they just had put a little more time into it and actually read the hundreds of forum posts with descriptive ideas on how to properly implement it. Instead of just giving us this item they had to simply gotten rid of the barrier as a whole. Make it a toggle option in the settings and allowing for people to see each others rp profiles no matter what faction and being able to use /s /e to their heart’s content.
They have already said however there is hard coding involved in the very foundation of Warcraft that they can’t undo without breaking the game engine. This is a work around and a temporary fix so they can get into the nitty gritty.
The faction divide is a hard coded concept that’s not a case of just going
void x void y.
They need to assess the variables they have to counter and turn off and that is going to take some time. They need to essentially break the game engine’s current settings and rebuild them but they can’t do that without two things:
extensive testing and game engine coding changes
A major patch that could come in .3 .4 or even 4 expansions depending on development.
Source: I’m a game developer myself and it’s really not as easy as everyone makes it out to be. Every line of code can break 300+ other things.
You don’t even need to be a developer to know this, it’s just common sense to anybody with half a brain. But not everyone is so gifted in that regard, so…
I already published the next Uldum Nights, before these news. Read the Event section of Argent Archives!
I have this exact quote on my wall:
Game developer 101:
Why is this working? I don’t know. Why is this now not working. I DON’T KNOW xD
I -think-, judging by the fact there’s a defunct alchemy item with the same name, on WoWhead that this was just a case of implementing an old item again. Not entirely sure though.
Consider sending your feedback in a suggestion ticket to the developers?
I know, coding things is a pain in the butt. But after asking for cross faction speech for as long as the game is running and receiving a half working product is pretty lame imo.
It’s the case yes!

[edit] Oh, I can post links now.
I’ve got to say the potion I’ll take over no communication at all. It’s a step in the right direction!
We did it boys. We made them listen after 14 years. It’s not a perfect solution but just add /e to the pot and I’m personally happy.
Here’s to hope that they implement the option to speak cross faction in the menu in the future as well.
Well, I can say that I’m happy about the development. The potion seems pretty great on paper.
Now to fix everything else. You can do it, Blizz. :^)
So just in case someone is wondering how to get this beauty.
You can buy https://www.wowhead.com/item=2460/elixir-of-tongues-nyi the Elixir of Tongues from Fizzi Liverzapper (https://www.wowhead.com/npc=110642/fizzi-liverzapper), who is located in the New Dalaran underbelly, in the circular potions room.
The potion costs 30g baseline, but scales with your Kirin Tor reputation, to a minimum of 23g 96s.
It does not (yet) convert /e. It does convert /s and /y, and as far as I am able to tell, the other side does not need to chug a potion, so long as you speak their language - they will be able to understand.
It does not stack with Arcane Linguist. Testing it out on my mage, I wasn’t able to understand Thalassian.
It is also not soulbound, and thus you can send it to any alts you want to use it on. It only requires they be level 5 to use it.
The new build of CrossRP now translate /e while using the potion and offers a reminder to refresh your Elixir.
For realsies? Does it still do the TRP and stuff too?
Presumably. Haven’t checked myself yet because I’m in Orgrimmar IC and not exactly RPing with Alliance here.
I’ll have a peep. Three account power.
Emotes appear above your head, like it was done in say. But hey, it’s a start. And no to the profile side of things.
