C'thun is still bugged, turning an already easy boss into a loot pinata

It seems that by “fixing” C’thun’s release behavior of not beaming at all Blizzard introduced another huge bug that completely negates any remaining difficulty of this boss in classic. Since it’s impossible for 95% of guilds to wipe after successfully running into C’thun’s room thanks to tentacles being an unexpected non-challenge many people were still scared of the infamous C’thun laser. There are endless clips and videos from back then of people screwing up the running in part of the fight, linking the beam and wiping the raid. This (except for the classic peek wipes before you even pull) seems to be a rare occurrence on classic. But why is that?
As of right now C’thun follows a pattern that is not indicative of his 2006 behavior.
He does his first 3 beams which will hit the same person (unless dead), then a possible 4th on a random player in combat with him. After that he abruptly stops and idles for a full 10 seconds, allowing the entire raid to move into position without any problems or threat of a wipe.

Meanwhile when we look at any 2006 example we can see he continuously beams the raid and doesn’t just take a break. For some of these videos you need to check the raid frames for incoming damage to confirm beams, especially in the Curse video. You can just type “C’thun 2006” into youtube and find an endless amount of these videos.

They won’t, because Blizzard wants you to play Shadowlands for “challenging content” and not Classic.

I suspect Classic has quite a few stealth nerfs. Blizz were afraid it’d be too hard and applied their usual casual-catering “all the content should be accessible for everyone” policy.

Even if not, their vision of “nochanges” is not only laziness. They could be lazy and still remove worldbuffs, for example. Or fix the head NPC reset as an exploit at the very least. But no, things that make the game easier are good things for them.

It would appear as though the first 3-4 eye beams have a different ID than the ones for the remainder of the fight; one which can’t be found on at least wowhead. They probably added that new ID eye beam as a hotfix for the bug on classic AQ40 release where he didn’t do anything for a long time, but they only made him cast that one 3-4 times so it doesn’t have a smooth transition into the original ID eye beam which was never working in the first place.

Lets be real though, he’d be a joke all the same. You can 20-man him and it’d be a complete breeze. There was nothing unexpected about the tentacles being easy so the second you hit phase 2 you got the fight in the bag.

Literally not possible. Blizzard would not tune him differently just to mess with us. As we all normal people have been saying for a year now, because of nostalgia private servers tuned their stuff up the roof, not rooted in any reality. Stop trying to take pride in a 15 year old video game. Classic is not meant to be hard or challenging, maybe in some pvp scenarios but not in pve. Raiding should be easy so most of the playerbase can kill it. IMO retail should be just like classic. Get rid of LFR but make raids easier like in classic.

This “bug” was a 1.12 temporary hotfix from 2006.
But what were they trying to fix back then ? Maybe it was the behavior that OP described ?

I love how people still desperately cling on to “classic was hard” each content release was a guild breaker…now we’ve finally moved onto conspiracy theories that blizzard is nefariously stealth nerfing classic to make people play shadowlands :joy::joy:

There’s plenty of accurate video evidence from 2006 that depicts bosses behaving radically different to what we’re seeing on this copy paste of the legendary reference client. Idk if there actually was a patch where C’thun gave you a 10 second break, but it certainly isn’t the case in any of the videos I’ve seen. They’re not theories, they’re facts. This C’thun is wrong.

Checking some logs of recent C’Thun kills. Picked some raids of the last days, and we have 3 cases of the “no delay” and 13 cases of the “roughly 12 second delay” after the initial eye beams on the puller.
