Current reward and rating system of retail PvP needs a complete overhaul

Care to transcribe for those of us who quit Elon’s hellscape?

Bigmorgan, a R1 PvP player, recently put up a chain of tweets describing the above points and adding more points, which can revamp the retail PvP system, including Dueling zones, PvP reward track etc. All the points are spot on but sadly, no acknowledgement from Blizzard. All the key people are tagged with lots of user responses…

“PvP has had the same systematic problems for YEARS
-Between MMR issues, rewards, accessibility and more, there are problems that have existed for multiple expansions now
-These problems effect EVERYONE on the ladder”

It didnt say or add anything that wouldnt had already been said here nor it didnt provide any solutions just somebodys statement in social media what everyone playing pvp already knows. Idk why it were brought up but here it is. There were more details of the issue with possible solutions provided already on this very thread, just saying.

It is crazy that WoW PvP basically has 2 strengths compared to all the million PvP games that offer a better competitive experience than WoW

  1. Open world
  2. Character based progression

and yet Blizzard plays to none of these strengths.

Blizzard released an official post addressing M+ changes. They followed it up with an official Twitter post as well. The baseline is that we listened to the community!

I just wonder why they keep the PvP community totally ignored…

After getting 2.4k in Blitz, I suddenly realized that I didn’t get the seasonal mount, as the bar was at 87%. I went in to complete it and my 52% win rate dropped to like 48% with a chain of 11 consecutive losses!! Loosing games in PvP is just part of the cycle, but losing games at 2.8k MMR with players having no clue what they are doing and no communication is just a mockery of the game mode. Blitz is nothing but a horrific effort to appease the casuals and destroy the very meaning of team play… to add salt to the wound, I opened 5 rings from the RNG conquest boxes!! This is the worst joke for PvPers…

Venruki, Supatease, and several other PvP streamers are simultaneously advocating for these changes. It is very strange to see that despite so many requests for basic PvP changes like abolishing the RNG conquest box, or bringing a mount reward for each mode etc. there is absolutely no acknowledgement from Blizzard. On the other hand, they keep posting changes for M+ or casual trading post saying, “You Said and We Listened”… really really strange

Unpopular take but they should just get rid of rating completely. Just move everything onto a battle pass style track where all that matters is participation and let people play for fun.

Wow will never be balanced to allow for decent competitive play like other games are due to it being an MMO. Other games like Overwatch you can jump on any character/class straight away, with wow you have to level and learn all the classes and specs, addons and key binds etc.

If they truly wanted ranked game play then separate it from main wow completely. Have stripped back class templates to choose from and any rewards or ranks should only be applied to that game mode and not usable in main wow. That means you can play any class without leveling or any of the pve hassle and you wouldnt need gear etc just pick the class you want and play.

That means those who want to play wow and play for fun get rewarded just for playing for fun without the stress of ranked play and never being able to achieve the 1% rewards and those who want ranked can play and only need to worry about that game mode and it would be easier to balance.

However, wow is becoming more and more seasonal and almost feels like mini expansions that they could almost make mythic plus and ranked pvp all separate game modes with class templates. Somewhere along the line we lost the RPG part of the game.

The only people that will benefit from mounts and rewards for each game mode are one percenters.

I think it would cause more friction and stress because people would then feel compelled to play all game modes to collect all the colours and would be a nightmare for class balance. You would find different classes would be stronger and op in different brackets and game modes.

PVP needs to be simpler and more accessible and fun. They really need to add more bgs every expansion too. How hard is it to reskin WSG or Arathi Basin. They could even steal some game mode ideas from Overwatch.

Thanks for the opinion. I feel it will be the other way round. For example, imagine a system where a casual PvP enjoyer knows that if he/she gets past 1800 in Blitz, then the reward is an entire new permanent title and a mount, which is totally different to the same player getting past 1800 in RBGs with new title or weapon skins etc. Moreover, in the same situation, an elite has the incentive to have two different Gladiator skins from Solo Shuffle and 2v2, which are unique from the regular 3v3 mount. Now on top of all of this, imagine a situation where a player gets a Gladiator skin mount and title for killing 50k enemy players in Open World! The scope is huge, all that we need is Johanna and Ion is to ask George and co to interact with PvPers openly and implement these innovative changes for the good. This will eventually benefit the company only with more participation, more subscription and more revenue…

In retail PvP, we have three different currency systems for Warband:

  • The lowest currency, “Honor” has taxes
  • The middle currency “Bloody Tokens” is non-transferable
  • The top currency “Conquest” is RNG box transferable

It would be great if we have everything like Timewarped badges…

I am glad that Snuppy, in his livestream, talked about this post and the related Reddit post as well. I hope this draws attention of the PvPers and we have more voices and opinions pouring in and eventually Blizzard listening to our voices. Some changes probably require a hotfix…like making all PvP currencies Warband bound… I don’t know how difficult that would be to implement.

I have tried tagging this post with a recent Paladin post which a user shared on EU, extending the original post of LvLaden from the US forums. I hope this might help catch the attention of the Devs…

In order to continue drawing the attention of the Devs and hoping for more suggestions and participation, I am again bumping this thread. Somehow shows that either there are no PvPers on these forums or there is the interest is somehow really down and out…

fixing pvp is very easy.
i already can completly fix it /
i cant fix the talents and balance the spell for 100%
BUT i can fix the matchmaking and the way that pvp is working.
if i knew where to contact those pvp devs and then i could talk to them.
and give them everything that i know that can fix it

Never saw a saddle, i only get the mount sometimes if i really force myself to grind for it. :sob:

For rated ok, for normal battlegrounds no. Get rid of premades there and you will have more/enough players.

That’s the problem, there is probably no one for PvP.
PvP overall needs help absolutely but with the current Team it’s unlikely that there will be changes.

Wow rated system need complete overhaul. The entirely participation varied system was always bad but it became worse with new added modes since dragonflight and how they made them share rewards. It just kill most modes which ppl still play with friends, rated system should be reworked or gone back to the old % based instead of some set number tied achievements that stop meaning nothing if one mode is several times easier than other when all share ranks and are just affected from inflation from participations in the specific mode.

What am I doing wrong, if anything? Are the queues for rated battlegrounds truly so dire?

I queued up on an Alliance character at prime time and waited an hour and when the queue finally did pop somebody didn’t accept the invite and it supposedly put me back at the front of the queue. This happened a good four or five times.

Not just on a single evening. Every evening. I’ve gotten into a rated battleground once so far.

I saw that there’s an NPC that allows me to queue up to fight for the Horde instead. Will that have the same problem or will it work out better?

The game is in total shambles now, as far as PvP is concerned. I just don’t like to Q up anymore. Some of the very basic things are beyond any sense of logic. For example, we have WPvP quest, say, in Dornogal, but then there is no WPvP quest there! Back in Dragonflight, the zone that had the weekly quest, there was a weekly WPvP quest also active, and in fact, there is an achievement also for having done each of the 4 zones WPvP quests 20 times! Now nothing like this… I just don’t understand who all are working in the PvP department or someone who is just randomly doing things in PvE and extending them to PvP… I just feel really frustrated and sad…

Is there any realistic chance that any developer will actually read this post and react to it?

That would be good if they did, or even better if they just reworked it
