Current reward and rating system of retail PvP needs a complete overhaul

Few of these changes just need a hotfix, like the PvP currencies or vicious saddles getting redeemed, etc… Some of the changes, like mounts per game mode or titles, need an overhaul. Sadly, the Blizzard management doesn’t care and those who are getting paid to do their jobs are just…

It would be nice if there were more use for vicious saddles or marks of honor or just reworked to have something else I guess. Ive been wondering best use for all the mark of honor badges that have in bank or what to do with vicious saddles when already have all purchasable pvp mounts but keep getting more saddles.

They should make more kill and honour level achievements for the game. The last kill achievement added was in Cataclysm or MoP i believe (250,000 hks) which was a lot 15 years ago but is nothing now. The honour level 500 one is somewhat high but its rare that i’m highest honour level in a BG. I see many people 700-800-900-1000+

Exactly. Same goes for all the achievements and titles of RBGs for example. They must bring in new titles and achievements. Warbringer at 300 RBG wins with Vicious Wolf. Then there should be reskins and titles for 1000 or 2000 RBG wins etc. new titles staring 1000 to 24000 and Hero with seasonal being usable ingame… They can do a lot of they want…

Bumping the thread to keep it alive. Today MMOChampion directly talked about the horrific state of retail PvP via a Twitter post. I have tagged this thread out there as a response. I hope it will catch the attention of the concerned…hoping against hope.

i agree alot

Christ @leekatv posted the 11.2 patch artwork speculating if this has anything to do with PvP rewards refresh. I am sure this has nothing to do with PvP in any which way as such…

The next patch makes Valorstones warbound. But no similar action for PvP curriencies! Honor stays warbound with tax, Bloody tokens are not warbound and Conquest is warbound via a horrible RNG lootbox! Why is PvP treated differently and rather not treated and ignored!?

Would you be fine with someone entering a ranked battleground in full Gladiator gear when they don’t even know their character’s abilities just because they transferred all the Conquest from their main to them? It’s the same argument why Warbound gear that drops for your main is always at least one tier lower than the soulbound gear that would drop for you.

I think your reply here frames the premise of your main points to Blizzard nicely (and I think they’re all good ideas by the way.). A casual pvp enjoyer is not someone who gets to 1800 in Blitz. A casual pvper is one who stays in unrated play for the most part, doing the minimum required in rated play to get purple gear, and ceasing rated play the minute they have that gear. Or one who maxes out honor gear and really doesnt go any further, and never does rated play. The main barriers to WoW pvp for actual casual players, who I submit outnumber anyone looking for rating are : (1) the existence of 2 pvp currencies (2) premades in unrated play. My suggestions would be (1) have only one type of pvp currency, just award les of it for unrated play OR make conquest gear function like honor gear in unrated play (2) make unrated play solo queue. Those changes right there would help the casual player base while your suggestions in the main seem good for competitive players. Alas I hear that some new pvE gear will shortly e BiS in pvp again - so we’re going backwards to the bad old days.

Your point is quite valid, but here are two catches:

1st: a player would enter ranked game in any case if he wants to enter with his/her alt. Being in a fully glad gear or in greens won’t change his/her skillsets. He/she will perform fine as such. But to farm conquest all over just demotivates players. What is the use of surplous conquest points with player!? It is two way to look at the same situation being glass half-filled and half-empty. The situation is better where I am done playing my Boomy to 2.4k in Blitz and now wants to start Areans as my DH and I have full conquest gear and I can enjoy my games with a headstart and play. It will only increase participation…

2nd: The point is the rules of transfer/warbound has to be uniform! Why honor has taxes, bloody tokens are non-transferable where conquest is warbound without any taxes but it is being transferred with a horrible rng lootbox. The conquest lootbox is the worst thing in the game. When Blizz is already letting player transfer conquest from one alt to another, it should be just as timewarped badges where I can buy the piece I want rather wasting my 6k conquest to open 5x rings or 6x trinkets etc.

Banger suggestion! I hope Developers read this please.

Yes, the problem of premades in Epic Bgs and unrated play is certainly among the worst things in the game currently! Not sure, how Blizzard can counter this but they must try fixing this issue. Premades have just destroyed the very concept of enjoyable epic bg encounters!

Blizzard should just make single PvP currency and that is conquest points which should be like timewarped badges via which a player can buy the gear they want be for actual gameplay or for transmog etc. The currency should be just warbound, letting players to play whatever they want and enjoy the game. This would just skyrocket the participation.

I haven’t played pvp in Retail for like 7 years . ( And somehow i burned out in anniversary classic with pvp <3 )

It’s not fun and how it become it doesn’t offer enjoyment or satisfaction .

The majority of wow-players are Casuals . I’m casual and how it become it isn’t appealing .

Casual players up until Mop they were doing PvP because the rewards was good for them even on Pve content until they got the better rewards .

Right now no point of doing pvp content since the rewards of pvp are exclusive for pvp .

They have separated every content at the point there is no more connection between them and make the population decrease .

There is a reason why Classic/Tbc/Wotlk/Cata/Mop had a huge attendance of people doing content pvp/pve. Because was encouraging people of doing that content .

Absolutely agree. The decline of the game is because of the incentives. Retail PvP has kinda zero incentive for anyone currently. The very basic concept of giving vicious saddles is redundant for ages now and none addressed it. The Q times are endless and makes no sense at all. Blitz was the final nail in the coffin as it killed the very concept of team play and community interactions.

It would be cool to have some kind of battle pass from casual random BGs and conquest games as well, getting points only when getting win in both versions of PvP, with bonuses (mini achievements) when you do some specific in battle pass achievement (like killing 50 gnomes in WSG for a week or something similar), those would give more points and sometimes even unlock some reward if it’s harder one that isn’t weekly or daily quest.

I believe PvP should be there not because people want to play it bcuz of rewards, but because it is fun and balanced, like GW2 arena mode. Gear shouldn’t count in these modes, so would be great if they drop conquest cap nonsense and just have one regular honor grind for PVP, but it perhaps take longer to grind and is grindable through random BGs easily as well. They should add crafted PVP gear that’s only slightly below regular honor gear piece, so you can get alt, spend 15k gold and have already playable PVP character ready for action.

Golds are not the issue and you shouldn’t get those in random BGs, as I said, you play PVP or even PVE, because it is fun for you, not to make some player mentality that chases rewards instead of fun. This will never work and players will get brainwashed quickly. Like Buddhists and eastern way of life once said, you cannot chase happines from outside, it must come from within. This is something that can be learned how to make games, basically if something is fun for you, you will be doing that no matter what, and not spend hours and hours from drop of dopamine when you finish something, but overall journey was bad all that time, that is not good for gaming at all…

The fun part is long gone as Blizzard put the game mode in a trash bin. The last flag carrying game map was released back in Cata… it is like over a decade now!! That says it all. However, all your points are great and hope someday, Blizzard will have bosses, who would take a fresh look at PvP, read such player comments and act accordingly.

Yesterday Ion brought out the one button rotation feature! Probably the management is unaware that there is a big one-button macro creation community called GSE, that has been very successfully developing these one-button rotation macros/sequences and several players have been very successfully using the same for ages… instead of addressing the core issues of the game, to which they continue to stay ignorant, they keep working on trivial or semi-trivial things. I don’t know if at all, retail PvP will ever get the due attention and someone who really understands the mode and the feelings of the community will make the changes…

Good points, lets keep this thread alive and hopefully we’ll get the changes and developement that pvp deserves.

Pvp is at or less than 5% of the player base so they won’t care.

I think if they make more epic bg and appealing ones then I am sure many casual players will prefer that
