Curseforge Users - *NEW* Standalone App

Most if the addons I use can now be found on Wago. Think I’m heading that way. Should upload my own there, too.

Idk I just like WowUp because it runs natively on Linux and it works well with no fuzz. I’d rather not switch.

From the top of my mind: REFlex, which is from the author of CurseBreaker (AcidWeb). Most notably I’ve seen several ask about it in the WowUp Discord, and there have been several the past months, but those are just the ones I’ve seen myself.

It’s primarily the non-big addons. I suspect that Overwolf is favoring bigger addons and kinda forgets about the “little guy”, as these are the people moving over.

That said, there’s also an incredible amount of people that are now putting addons on Wago, so CurseForge is actually working against itself by limiting its platform. The TukUI community also seems to somewhat resent Overwolf, and with the popularity of ElvUI and them not wanting to be on CurseForge, I can see why Overwolf is feeling the heat.

It does look like however, with CurseForge sponsoring Echo, that they are trying to make more exclusivity on their platform. Noggie seems to not want to use Wago at all due to it being Method (which is hypocrite at best, forcing others to use Overwolf…), and their “Echo Raid Tools” addon/weak auras is also an exclusivity deal it seems.

My guess is that they don’t want Echo “fans” and raiders to use Wago because it’s owned by Method, so now we’ve got even more corporate BS messing up the addon ecosystem.

I do use Discord but my avatar is obviously not really me and I’m often on VPN and an anonymised browser, and I only talk about gaming so beyond selling info about my gaming preferences they don’t have much. Shrug.

Facebook and Instagram, no. It is spyware.

That’s what I heard.

I’m still sure the only way I have kept my account from being busted is by using a different email to that used for wow for all game related pages/logins/apps etc.

I do understand that small addon devs may not be interested in keeping their addon on multiple platforms. I think a lot of the big ones are already on things like GitHub and Curseforge.

I think it was a shrewd move on Curseforge’s part to sponsor Echo. They also sponsor some streamers/content creators.

I don’t personally care what addon manager people use, just find something you are comfortable with.

everyone sells data now its ok  serves more for making ads

I just ticked NOPE on all the share data options when it came to Overwolf xD

Are you sure They honor it. I dont Think They do.

As sure as I can be with any site that has those options. I have received nothing in all the time I’ve been using Curseforge so I’m gonna say it’s been working just fine.

I dont think adds are going away. They want to make money somehow, which is understandable, considering they are investing work into it.

Adds are potential risk, yes, but not as hot as you think it is. Unless you are running OS without any AV software on it, which you shoudlnt.

I’ve gotten a keylogger from ads on wowhead. Never allowed ads after that. I can’t control the ads in their client without doing some stupid stuff with my router.

I guess I’ve been lucky or my spyware stuff is doing it’s job.

Sounds horrible.

Nice to hear they are changing the client, but my stance on curse/overwolf remains; if an addon requires me to use their app or visit their site, I no longer need that addon. So far the only addon that I haven’t been able to update after the API changes is DBM.

Someone made what I think is a valid point on the Wowhead article. What they could do is get everyone using their stand alone client, so over time the independent ones (like Wowup) close through lack of support. Then, once they have us all using theirs and we’re a captive market, they can stop supporting it and force us to user Overwatch after all.

I’m not saying it’s definitely something they would do - it’s up to people who know the company better than I do to decide for themselves if they think they would or not. Personally, I use Wowup, and I like it, so I’m going to continue using it.

I’m surprised as they are on GitHub too, I thought WowUp pulled from there?

It should, but I think there is some issue with matching the versions or something. WoWUp is acting like I don’t have some dependencies like DBM core installed while I’m 100% sure they are all there. Hopefully it gets fixes soon and if not… oh well, last time I did a dungeon that I can’t solo was 3 months ago

All I can suggest is that you report it to WoWup, you’re certainly not the only one who I’ve seen complain about this. There must be some issue.

Have you tried an adblocking hosts file? I remember it being quite effective at blocking ads in the old Cruse and Twitch clients.
