Customization bias

I’ve noticed that for a while now, elves seem to get bonus additions to their customization while everyone else kind of misses out.

We began with the addition of Night Warrior (aka Snowflake, edgelord elves) eye option.
Then blizz caved in to popular demand and gave alliance void elves customization to appear as high elves and more recently, the vampire/dark ranger skin for the blood and void elves.

All good and I have nothing against adding to customization so long as it isn’t too silly.
With Dragonflight, it really disappointed me to see that the visage (the “human/elf” appearance of the dracthyr) are going to blood elves for the men and human female for the women.

I understand they’re not technically elves, but the rig it’s using is clearly the belf male.
This is a tad much. At the very least, they should’ve been using the human male rig imo.

It’s kind of a meme with the whole “world of elfcraft” but at this point I don’t even think we can say this, tongue-in-cheek anymore.

This also extends beyond the upcoming Dracthyr race. I for one would like to see Demon Hunters expanded to other races because Illidan has been MIA since BC and stepped down as the defacto leader at the beginning of the Legion expansion. Being a demon hunter is not a genetic thing either, but I digress.

Worgen Feral Form - The rig is already in place because we got the Saberstalker talent which straight up used the Worgen rig. Obviously it should be exclusive to actual Worgens.

Draenei Warlocks - The Draenei are not a hivemind. It’s not impossible to imagine that at least a handful wanted to pursue the “fight fire with fire” type mindset. Same line of reasoning could justify draenei demon hunters. “but they hate demons and all they stand for” - yeah, the same was true for Illidan’s people, remember?
This could also pave the way for other races to unlock this class, such as Orcs.

Expansion of transmogrification rules.

Shamans can transmog dual-wield into a two-hander. This would circumvent the issue of balancing the numbers, entirely and satisfy a niche audience that have been longing for this aesthetic for a while. Also, elemental/resto should be able to transmog their shield+onehand into a two-hand on the back. Similar rule could apply to paladins.
The technical work is already in place as we can see when we transmog legion artifacts that differ from what we are wielding (e.g. druids transmogging a polearm into feral dual-wielding daggers).

More tattoos for just about all races.

Beard options for just about all the men
More hair options.
More color options.

spell customization such as fel fire unlock from MoP.
melee attack customization (outlaw rogue looks like they’re about to fall on their back when they swing their sword proc from the mastery stat)

more jewelry/visible items.

Expansion of heritage sets such as what we saw for yet again, elves, but fortunately also dark iron.

Anyone remember seeing this concept fan art?

So much that can and should be done. I’m suggesting blizz starts by taking a break from expanding on elf customization.

Ez temporary fix for visage form btw: Just make it possible to appear as a generic race - No extra customization needed.

Blood elves have so few customisations, they aren’t the worst off but by no means do ‘Elves’ all have the same equal options.

Night Elf has a fantastic amount of customisation now, so do Humans, and Orcs. But not all races are equal and I wish they would make the same number of choices available for all. Not all the same, with their own flavours.

The Dracthyr have an insane amount of customisation available it’s amazing, I hope that this will set a new standard for Blizzard and they’ll expand that across the other races to bring them up to par.

However this is the same company that left the Belf and Draenei starter areas out of any revamps so I wont hold my breath

I completly disagree, Blood elves have so few options compared to the rest of the races when it comes to tattoos and jewellery, their alliance counterparts the draenei got so many cool customisations.

As a Blood Elf Male, I basically have 0 options, when it comes to customization, even though Belf is the most popular race in the game. Nightelves have amazing choices though, but Blood Elves (And especially Male Blood Elves) have worse Customization than Troll, Tauren, Orcs, and many more on Horde. We are basically at Maghar Orc Level of Customization, which is a joke in the context of us being a Core Race, and the most popular in the game aswell.

Even Nightborne have more now after the changes

Blood Elf Males do have the worst customization of the non-allied races. The 2nd worst imo are Undead. Those 2 are so popular, but they didn’t get enough work imo

“few” is a gross exaggeration. Besides, I didn’t actually mean to make this about quantity of options although I can see why it comes across that way.

Unique, RP-based options such as the ones that seem to go exclusively towards elves, would be nice. My argument is that there are at least a few that are long overdo.

Give kul tirans and zandalari more options, they got so much potential!!

It’s no exaggeration

I’ll do a comparison when I’m done with this LFR

No need. If you make it exclusively about numbers, belf has less to mix up than fx orcs. I’ll happily treat you an arrangement of scar options in exchange for red orc skin alone. I don’t know how I can make my point any more clear than that.

The amount of customization combinations blood elves can have actually puts them as “middle of the pack.”

This was before the Red eye option and the pale skin option was added, btw.

That chart works perfectly to highlight how all Elves aren’t remotely equal.

Thank you!!!

again - I could not care less about quantity. This has nothing to do with what I’m talking about. Besides, they far from lose out in contrast to something like Dark Irons or Zandalari.

You seem to be running your own definitions to suit your point of view rather than looking at what the races actually get.

I wish all races got the same number of options. But we don’t.

It takes me agest to stop fiddling with Night Elf, or Human or Dracthyr customisations because there are so many possibilities.

There is a great disparity between the elf races and what they get (and other races for that matter). Night Elf reigns supreme and Nighborne are their poor cousins.

True enough.

I think the point is that other races do need more attention compared to elf races, since the only one who is remotely low on that list are nightborne.

I would not mind more customization to Zandalari, to Draenei, to even Vulpera since there aren’t that many options to go by.

It was never not a personal view, so I have no idea what that’s got to do with anything.
For me, there’s more value to a dark ranger skin due to the lore behind it than there is in jewelry and scar options. If you disagree, then okay. I have no idea why you’d value quantity over quality though. The From Software games are great examples of why a myriad of customization option for the most people, adds very little to their actual customization preferences.

Being able to eat enough dragon hearts so that your characters eyes turn yellow and have a slit for an iris is something of actual value though as far as I’m concerned, because there’s actual significance behind it. I have no interest in making the equivalent of a child’s drawing for a character design, but of course if you value that, there’s nothing more to talk about.

I don’t think one races customisations should have to suffer at the cost of another.

We should strive to get them all on a Dracthyr level.

M8, you literally have every kind of dwarf, that exists in lore, as options for customization rn, but yeah, I agree with giving more races better customization. Blood elfs need more tho. They are the most popular core race, and have less options than Nightborne/Void elves/Nightelfs/Orcs/troll/Tauren/Humans/everything except vulpera/Zandalaritroll/Maghar. Even goblins have more options. Can you imagine, that before Shadowlands, we only had green eyes, if I remember correctly

and I’m very happy about that. It was a weirdly long road we had to travel to get there though. It’s easy to forget in that context that Dark Iron was only as of BfA and behind a boring, meaningless rep grind at that. Wildhammer also only became a thing as of Shadowlands - If this is of any indication, I reckon it’s a positive one. I don’t want elves to have customization taken away either. Actual, meaningful customization is easily far preferred for me over just more jewelry or some obscure color palette. The humans addition to their customization is a great example of why more is not always better. The abominations you get when you press randomize for human is nothing short of hilarious.

I think it was a nightborne update that offered me this beauty
