Dark Pact takes out 20% of your current HP and gives you 2,5 times that amount as a barrier that lasts 20 seconds.
This is bad.
First, for a 1 minute CD, it is weak. I mean, the net absorption (once the damage done to you is detracted) it provides is equivalent to 30% your current HP. That is barely more than mage’s barriers (20% or 22%, depending on the spec) while having twice the cooldown, and additional issues. And barrier is baseline, while dark pact requires a talent.
Not only that, it requires to be used while you are at 100% HP, which is precisely the moment you don’t really require it, because you are probably safe due to your healer (at least in arenas). If you use at, lets say, 50% HP, it would give you half the absorption, for a total net gain of 15% of your HP.
It’s a very weak defensive, with too long of a CD, which no real use besides dueling rogues. It’s also the worst of the 3 options in pve.
It should be changed to “takes 20% of your total HP and gives you 2,5 times that amount as a barrier that lasts 20 seconds” and either have its CD reduced by 15 seconds, or add a “deals no damage when used below 20% hp”.
It should probably indeed take your maximum HP instead of your current HP or take pet HP like it used to ( I mean the first choice is preferable but this also worked).
By the way on that topic, I’d also welcome that tier getting dark bargain again tbh.
Well, Dark Pact is supposed to be this “bursty” type of shield no? Instead of Demon skin, which is smaller, but more consistent. But yes, Dark Pact should go from max health instead. Nothing more to it imo.
Shadowfury - castable 3 seconds stun, that is interrupted 70% of the time.
Seduction - breaks from 0.1 point of damage, shares dimonishing with fear, channeling spell that makes Succubus stay and not fight.
Axe toss(felguard) - 4 second stun, with extremely long travel time, that sometimes requires your line of sight instead of Felguard’s, Demonology only!.
Infernal - stun, destro only.
1 and 2 are warlock’s spells, 3-4 are awaliable only trough demons.
Talents.
Mortal coil - fear.
None of current warlock CC is doing it’s job well. Fear only allows you to cast one spell before it will broke, it is only usefull for Destro atm, no one will allow you to cast shadowfury, you has to cast mortal coil of fear befor cast shadowfury.
As I said demonology got smash by every melee cleave in arena. Try yourself or ask on mgodx or aufgosh stream
Actually walling a burst result to die cause melee got 100% uptime on you and got ton of micro cc. To me this is the worst part of the spec actually. But can do really good against pretty much everything else.
It’s about using your CC correctly as I stated before, it actually takes a while for fear to break damage. You can as an example use a full Drain Life when they are feared. You can literally pull off the longest CC chain ever.
Fear only has a chance to break on damage, there will be times where it breaks instantly and times where it runs its course.
I’d take Lock CC over Mage CC any day. Gimme a shout when your Fear starts healing the target, dispelling any DoTs and breaking on any damage.
As for Dark Pact, it’s incredibly powerful when used at max HP. To me it seems that it shouldn’t be used as a last ditch effort to save yourself, but rather a preemptive defensive. Also, don’t forget that unlike most barrier spells, it cannot be dispelled and is castable whilst CCed.
Whilst I would agree that it could scale better at lower HP%, Warlocks have far too many defensive capabilities as it is.
I would take mage mobility over warlock mobility any day.
None of our defences will is matter if our damage dealing mechanics is vulnerable as it is right now, i can use all my defences and still half brained class will kill me, simply using chain of CC and interrupt when it’s needed.}
Warlocks right now posses big rough damage numbers and zero utility and meanings behind that numbers.
Damage dealing mechanics are boring and some abbilities are simply not designed to be viable in PvP, just look how dreadstalkers work in the dynamic enviroment.
No other class is suffer from bad design in so many design and tech levels of class as a whole as warlocks.
Are you kidding me man, seriously in 2s OK you can but in 3s unless you play with a mage or something that can spam cc you get smash by every melee cleave.
I tried multiple things, I asked on the best demo locks stream actually what to do or if I do something wrong. There is no way to escape. They said them self you barely survive at each setup if you are lucky and playing good.
Drain life deals like 1600 per tick. Using it as an example of how much damage fear can take is not really a good idea.
Fear, at least for affliction, is breaking for me consistently with the first set of dot ticks. Which pretty much makes it useless as a CC because as an afflilock you are supposed to dot everything to spread rot pressure. As destro, it breaks most of the time with my first spell + immolate tick, incinerate included. For all practical purposes, it breaks on almost the first source of damage. In fact, I would actually prefer it being like polymorph (dispeling the dots when casted) because the actual duration of fear when used against anything dotted is on average something like 2 seconds: basically, i would rather have a dot dispelling, breaks on damage CC than the current fear.
Does not break from only Immolate. It does seem to break from the direct damage though. You don’t fear and drain life for damage, you do it for heals.
I can keep someone in a full fear when they have Agony, Corruption and Siphon Life, as I just tested it myself. You won’t reallt fear someone with UAs up so that’s pointless to test.
Corruption + agony. Broke on the first or second tick 3 out of 3.
In understand there is some luck involved, but clearly fear is not a reliable CC while the enemy is receiving any kind of damage. And for a CC, being reliable is most times better than it allowing a certain amount of damage.
True. But that is a very specific case: a 1 v 1 situation in which you want to heal and not deal damage by using one specific spell. In more realistic and relevant scenarios, such as arenas, fear in its current form is very weak CC.
In theory, you always wanted UA on the feared target to avoid it being dispelled. But that was in a time when UA dispel protection wasn’t as useless as now.
