Dark Ranger/Pack Leader shows an incredible lack of creativity and is as underwhelming as it gets

So in general there seems to be a huge difference between classes and specs when it comes to the new hero talents. I’m talking mainly around interaction/visual coolness mainly. I play demonology warlock and BM hunter as an alt and took them both for a spin on the beta, and it’s beyond words how much cooler the design for the demonology warlock is. Spawning raid bosses, huge demons, changing core abilities into super powered versions etc.

This is such a missed oppertunity to make something cool, tap into the whole Rexxar/Sylvanas themes etc. Just imagine like some core abilities sometimes changing or proccing things like a huge Misha roaring and charging into a pack with a huge swipe, or some cool looking version of stampede trampling down the battlefield, or spawing some cool snakes by your side shooting from ranged etc. Or you all remember the Sylvanas “For the horde” thing everyone went crazy over, Dark Ranger should procc some sick shadow stuff, where ability turns into cool shadow versions and wtf, I mean, the fantasy aspects here are completely missed.

I’m sure hunter will be great and good and fun and all that, but people have been asking for Dark Ranger etc for years, if you see it now on the beta, is this really the epic adoptation of it that one could have hoped for? It’s beyond lackluster.

Dark ranger/pack leader the interaction is indeed very low, with the hunter rework the class will still be playing very new and exiting

The visuals could need some real improvement, imagine Dark ranger Black arrow got some real visuals a shot where the air arround the arrow swallows into darkness and the enemy you hit got almost the colour of a shadowpriest while the ground arround him looks like he got into a dark hole blabla and so on
Real silvanas chains when you disengage
The hounds spawning from ticks have a real animation where it look like the spawn from hell

Everyone would be Pogging how cool dark ranger is, eaven the only think you do is press every 30 sec a button

This.

Guarantee that even if Sentinel wasn’t as incredibly performing (apparently it is still really good), Hunter players will still roll with it anyway because of how cool the interaction it is compared to Pack Leader and Dark Ranger.

We aren’t even asking for any numbers or mathematics. We just want our buttons to actually feel impactful. And pretty. Give us back a sense of excited anticipation when we press them every rotational/burst cycle or so.

Also its maybe hopium but dark ranger and packleader visuals looks like a placeholder and they still work on it

I hope so mate, but the post saying going forward design is kinda done and they are now looking more at tuning aspects has me worried.

Because when I heard as a hunter I could embrace the Shadow and become a Dark Ranger, I had kinda envisoned more than this:

I really like Pack Leader.

The first time I saw the talents I thought they were very boring and unimpressive, but once you try them you realize that they add even more fluidity to a spec that is already very relaxing to play. I hope they don’t change them because for BM they are a delight, they add just the right complexity and still it remains an easy and fun spec.

Not to mention the survivality it provides. We are going to have a lot of self healing that we aren´t used to.

And that’s great!

I think one of the biggest issues with the Hunter hero talents is just visually unappealing overall. It’s a view shared by a lot of others (looking at even the Hunter TWW beta thread as an example) but if it’s enough for some players, that’s fine!

It’s just that it kind of feels bad when one class offers the visual power of destroying spatial annhilation (Voidweaver/Archon) and summoning entire legions of galactic monstrosities (Diabolist) whilst Dark Ranger has is making the target look a little smelly and occasionally throwing your dead dog at them. Pack Leader I understand hasn’t moved far from KC’s pointing at the enemy many many many times.

I was curious about other opinions on this and found this topic.
Feel the same and it baffles me a bit how much cooler the other class changes are compared to hunter.

For bm packleader im completely missing the hero talent feel and was dissapointed to find out no changes were made to pet options like choose your own pet specialisation (in legion we could change this) or more pets or assigning types of special skills to pets etc… You know like leading a pack and mastering beasts…

Yeah man, looking at some of the other thematic stuff for other classes, this is an absurd let down. If some people finds it enough, power to them, but some imagination please Blizzard.

I happen to stumble upon this hero talent thing from a youtuber, usually taking these things with a grain of salt, but the feedback specially on pack leader is pretty much what most people are thinking I believe.

[Quote]
This [packleader] is probably the most boring hero talent by far in the game, specially when you compare it to the potential you could have through combining survival and beast mastery. […] Instead we have a purely passive hero talent you barely even notice is enabled, yeah it does extra damage but who cares about that when nothing happens or changes for your rotation at that point you might as well scrap it an buff the core spec. Hunters got shafted in general with hero talents, which is a shame because after such a great rework this class could have been one of the most fun in the game but the hero talents let them down massively. […] but as of now, the hero talents, which is the main selling point of next expansion, just feels so underwhelming and honestly almost pointless."

Seen this myself too.

I’ve heard some arguments to favour why Hunter has such lacking animations and honestly i’m not all in for it. But i’m exhausted at hoping and calling out at this point. i’ll settle with Sentinel and… eh… Dark Ranger’s smelly arrow and dead dog I guess.

At least my other characters looks to have some nice visuals so its not a complete loss.

I really believe that Black Arrow should just replace Arcane Shot and Cobra Shot, right now it kinda feels like having Frostfire Bolt on a 30 sec cd…

Black Arrow should have been an empowered Explosive Shot tbh.
Explosive Shot has a natural 30sec cd, which plays really well in dungeons and raids for rotations.
They could have given it an initial explosion, which dots all targets hit, and then a secondary explosive that applies a second stack of the dot.

That way it would proc all triggers from black arrow more often. Withering Fire should fire off a passive Rapid Fire or Barbed Shots, which would make it a way faster way to play.

Do not play the hunter

Thats smart

Even Sentinel isn’t all that special as visuals go, and that’s probably the best of the three…

Compared to other classes, our visuals of hero talents are incredibly bland.
Note: with ‘other classes’ I mean all except rogues, who got it worse than we do. Think they have three times nothing… But as a hunter since Vanilla it is very hard for me to feel any form of sympathy towards rogues so moving on…

I’m still gonna play hunter
Who are you to tell people to not play hunter ?

Dark ranger seems meh it’s just to many keybinds with black arrow
But packleader looks promising
