You should have said no humanS, you’re allowed one.
All the Dark Rangers in SW also seem to be god-emoters when people try to arrest or attack them, turning them into even more of a joke.
And that’s the finest exemplar of people defending dark rangers RP in Stormwind. People who do not care nor give any consideration towards the actual lore. I could just go ahead and RP a titan, after all, it’s just about having fun. Nevermind any courtesy towards my fellow roleplayers who appreciate the lore and are RP’ing in this universe and not in Star Wars or Lord of the Rings because they care for the story.
Just let me in and pamper me, you decadent #%@☆’s!
Suspected this would happen a few times atleast, same as when DK’s used to walk around with ghouls casually in Cathederal District n Locks with their demons, its why I honestly never even bother to interact/engage when I see someone prancing about with a demon/ghoul pet so casually in a spot like Stormwind, its an attention thing imo, and you wouldnt mind if they accepted the consequences of such, but they rarely do in my experience
I feel like that’s a fine example of someone deciding that what they’ve just read means something it doesn’t: there’s a bit of a difference between someone using the available tools given to them by the devs to RP a concept ( a dead elf ) as compared to someone RPing a titan.
The ability to play as a darkfallen is there, people are going to utilize it. If you don’t want to engage with it, then don’t. There’s a lore -reason- why kaldorei darkfallen might end up back in the Alliance, and if people want to utilize that then they can. Imaginations are a grand old thing, too. If people have a story to tell, then they’ll want to tell it.
Are they now? Has it happened?
What about the Thalassians?
There’s a piece of quest dialogue during the new Lordaeron quests that indicates the Kaldorei are welcome to seek their own path outside of the Forsaken. It’s even said that they run the risk of not being accepted elsewhere and that the door is to remain open, but it’s still presented as an option for them: the freedom to choose.
I can’t speak for elves outside of the kaldorei, because I don’t think reference was made. Personally? I don’t find it hard to go “Oh right, dark rangers might be a bit pissed that their leader just upped and betrayed them and as such, have chosen to walk their own path.”
As other people have already noted in this thread, I’m not advocating a lack of consequence. I don’t like to see ghouls wandering around with DKs, or Voidwalkers in front of the Cathedral. But people should be welcome to RP it and accept the RP that occurs around those concepts.
Just to cut to this, I think this is the core of all the troubles.
They might end up in the Alliance, or among the Kaldorei atleast, but so far none has been given and we know that while death knights (another faction of undead) have been in the Alliance for more than a decade, they too are only tolerated, not truly accepted. So why would the Darkfallen be any more accepted then death knights, demon hunters or void elves, which have all been pushed to hide in cellars or steer clear of the center of the city?
Yeah, given Darkfallen are technically just undead elves, theres been “Darkfallen” in both factions for atleast over a decade now, they just get more customisation now and the ability to roll other classes instead of just DK’s, typical of scourge units, some were dk’s some were casters, some were whatever, not comparable to Titans in any way shape or form.
Death Knights - the Ebon Blade in particular, tend to lean more towards “neutral”, at least that’s how I’ve understood it. They’re not unwelcome, they’re just kept at an arm’s length as a necessary evil. Void Elves, however, make up a pretty sizable force and NPCs wander around the city at random. They might be sort of squinted at if they enter the Cathedral, but they don’t get thrown out.
Edit: Realize I didn’t even answer the question: which is that I don’t have an answer. They probably wouldn’t be welcome, but ICly interacting with them and making a scenario out of it could be more interesting than just walking off. People are still welcome to do that, though.
RPing it is fine, in a sense.
But not accepting IC dislike or negativity is deeply meh.
I believe that argument has been made already and proven to be irrelevant by the other camp. Not because it’s not true, but because it doesn’t imply they’ve already joined the Alliance but that there is an intention on their part. Their freedom to choose doesn’t mean the Alliance will accept them and indeed it hasn’t yet. Which means that they wouldn’t be welcomed in cities like Stormwind similar to how the DK’s wouldn’t have been welcomed if not for the king deciding to forgive their crimes at Tirion’s behest.
There is in terms of proportions. Not in terms of lorebreaking. The tools allow you to RP a dark ranger. It doesn’t mean you can go walk around Stormwind out of nowhere.
I won’t. But the topic isn’t what I will or will not do, is it ? I just believe that in an online game respecting certain boundaries when it comes to the overall lore should come before fun, because you risk ending up ruining someone else’s immersion, ergo fun in some instances.
So far I haven’t seen one solid argument from the dark ranger camp (in lack of a better terminology) to justify the core issue here: DR presence in Stormwind. That camp’s arguments centre around too many assumptions and hypotheticals that are yet to happen, their core philosophy being an attempt to justify fun over lore in terms of RP.
I’m all for interactions in places outside of Stormwind. AKA where they wouldn’t have already been executed by the NPC guards. Also DK’s and Void Elves have actual lore and quests to justify their acceptance in Stormwind. Dark Rangers don’t.
Yeah thats the confusion here I think, people are gunna rp them, between being “Darkfallen” or “nightmare druids” whichever, however, its figuring out where they fit, because even after a decade of having undead around, demonic/undead chars generally dont fit in that great in SW or some other more typically light worshipping spots filled with paladins/priests/all sorts ect that are well capable and maybe motivated to deal with such “threats” in their own mind, ofc Ebon Blade arent a hostile faction any Alliance aligned people have any real business randomally attacking, but Darkfallen in the Alliance are new, they are likely to be attacked just randomally turning up in SW like everythings cool.
Edit: Someone else stated wasnt that long ago they was Sylvs elite champions/agents, not too different to the Deathknights when they came about, only difference is like others stated they havent been given some outright pardon yet, and even DK’s got attacked constantly at times when Wotlk came about, Alot of DK’s got it rough back then when trying to walz into the cathederal district.
In the recruitment quest, Anduin acknowledges that the common people won’t accept them – but as long as they carry their weight and adhere to Alleria’s teachings, they’ll have the King’s backing. An interview around 8.2 confirmed that the common people treat void elves with malice and fear, prompting many of them to stick to the shadows and out of public sight due to the active mistrust.
The problem is that Blizzard itself has disregarded it (ie. dark ranger void elves with no explanation)
I guess it’s possible a few Void Elves were killed during the Fourth War and then raised by Val’kyr? Maybe corpses left behind after the Battle of Lordaeron? Those would be pretty plaguey though, so maybe not…
Honestly makes sense, the void elves and Forsaken were both very active for the Alliance during the Fourth War and both has casualties risen by the Ebon Blade.
It would seem very out of place for the Forsaken to then be unable to bag a few void elves too.
If I remember correctly, the dark ranger lady explains that some of the Kal’dorei Dark Rangers have a choice to stay in Undercity or go back to the alliance if they choose too.
By that same logic, the Thalassian dark Rangers might also have that choice, though I doubt many would leave the horde.
So it’s there in the lore. I don’t think it’s fair to shun out Dark ranger roleplayers or undead elf role players.
If the Void elves are accepted into the alliance, I see no reason for the alliance to reject the Dark Rangers. They might get salty eyes from citizens, similar to how void elves are treated in the cathedral, but nevertheless I believe they could be accepted.
Tyrande herself has seen death and life in Ardenweald, and I believe she will accept them too.
The issue being that as of yet, neither Tyrande nor the Alliance has been confirmed to accept them.
