I don’t believe they are meant to be void elves though… Given Void Elves have Quel’Dorei customizations, the most feasible and lore sensible approach would be to assume they are part of the original High Elf dark rangers that died defending Quel’Thalas.
Admittedly, that doesn’t make it much better since they were far more loyal to Sylvanas than Kaldorei could have possibly been, but as we see with Velonara some do feel left out and betrayed. They may yet seek to build a new future along the Forsaken or, if they see their Kaldorei friends having some luck, decide to return to their roots as well.
It’s a stretch and again, more headcannon, but it still works better than void elves. So far we haven’t seen one single void elf raised as a DR in game. What I’d like though is to see more lore for umbral rangers. They’ve went in the battle for Lordaeron, saved the day and were completely forgotten.
Back in Warcraft 3 that was quite obvious. Sentinels randomly attacking humans and orcs for cutting off their trees and being quite savage about it. And then you have the druids of the claw which were so savage Malfurion had to calm them down a tad so they’d stop attacking him and his people and instead help against the Legion.

Hippies are cool anyway
It isn’t beyond the scope of possibility that different Night Elves have different personalities. Some can be lovey-dovey tree huggers, while others can be savage hunters who won’t think twice about biting your throat out if you threaten nature. Variety is a great thing !
(Also it’s worth remembering the Night Elves we see in WC3 are mostly military or other defenders of nature, their civilians could be different)
At this point they might as well rename the race from void elves to high elves officially on character creation menu and the tool tips, because every single post launch customization added to them was explicitly not void related in the slightest. What we play is flavors of alliance high elf.

You mean like not all paladins being blind zealots or compassion squad ? Heresy.
Might just as well make one neutral race similar to Pandaren with different customization and give you the option to choose a faction in game. We’ll just call them… Elves.

personally I blame the addition of the Cenarion Circle as a neutral entity for how the Night Elves were shown as peacefull morons compared to how they were shown in War3.
Alas, that ship has sailed a long time ago, and in BfA they made huge strides in giving the Night Elves their War3-era identity back. And now I just hope they won’t backtrack on that during Dragonflight! (Please Night Elves need no real capital or another world tree…!)
Counts for Void Elves in general, though… Sadly. They could’ve been a really interesting concept and addition to the Alliance, even if I am no fan of their addition in general…

You are not wrong there, I wish they would give us some more Velf stuff. But it feels like they wanted to put in High elves, but decided to go Velf and now regret it and trying to push Velves towards Helves.
You are right, variety is good, but its not really variety when its every Kaldorei we see.
That bit is true enough, but its not just military that are called that. Its the race as a whole, even the civilians are classed as such, because they are so in tune with nature.
Shadowmeld and the ability to make friends with Sabers was gifted to the entire Kaldorei race by Elune in the lore.
I mean I’ve been doing that for over a year, only staying in Alliance camps when I absolutely have to (cross-faction campaigns and stuff) and have had another player about to vouch for my not being murdered.
I personally find it more interesting than walking into Stormwind City as soon as the customization is added and then loldodging every RPer there who justifiably would want my character dead, while making OOC jabs like “/e thinks that people really need to read quest text : )”
But maybe that’s just me preferring quality to quantity idk.

Yes, because the potential is limitless. Give me more corruption, if i wanted to play a homeless blueberry, I’d be playing a night elf.
Give me creepy stuff, give me purple thick hide/carapace texture for the skin.
Give me spikes for shoulders, elbows or the entire back.
Give me an option to have half of my character’s face replaced with a big toothy maw.
Give me an option to have his forehead littered with N’zothy eyes.
Give me a whole bunch of actual tentacles coming out of the back of his head, even when going bald.
Give me a man after midnight, won’t somebody help me chase the shadows away.
And players have come up with their ideas before me too. A quick Google search gave me this and I think it’s a great concept:

Wow that was uncalled for!
But yea, I saw alot of fanmade customisation options for Void Elves and they all looked pretty awesome, now I know not everything can be added due to engine limitations or costing a raid tier or whatever, but if only a little bit of those customisations would be added, it would be cool!

i am of the belief that void elves shouldn’t get any more customisations that aren’t Void Elf related.
(fixing stuff doesn’t count, of course, I’m for fixing their tentacle hair when the tentacle has been removed)

in my opinion, dark rangers can go in stormwind, but they need to be whit a guard monitorizing them.
so dark rangers can RP, and the lore fact could be explained throught “they are allowed but only on watch of proper people”.
Example? a dark ranger can walk around only if it’s in the presence of an èlite guard or a paladin.
Very happy that’s just your opinion.

Yes, valid, that’s why I’m not asking for anything that goes beyond what they have already done. A lot of things just be cut from existing monsters and grafted onto the player model.
And this has always been a excuse to do less than what they can for the same amount of money. With how throughly monetized the game is (base game, expansion, cash shop, overpriced account services, token, subscription) there is no shortage of resources.

We all know it is, but its still an excuse Blizzard uses even if they word it differently now.

Yes but I’m still gonna complain about it because it’s the best I can do (ಠ益ಠ)

At least for undead Kaldorei it should be fine. If I remember correctly, Tyrande did ask the just raised undead Night Elves to come back (they refused though). So Tyrande at least was already open helping them before she even got onto this whole renewal trip.
Its abit of a weird one this situation, but me personally if rping an undead in an Alliance city and someone tries attacking me? I’ll likely accept the attack and try to distance myself from the assailant and convince others around me Ive done no wrong and just wish to simply leave the city in peace, would come up with some exscuse like “Im here chasing a lead on a cultist, I’ll go now though Im not here looking for trouble” I cant imagine undead ppl/dk’s ect are out there -expecting- the typical lightworshipping law obiding Alliance/SW patriot to be cool with them, if your a darkranger and you walz into SW, given how new/fresh this is whatever this is exactly fk knows, you should be prepared for people to attack/throw rotten fruit/namecall, chase you out the city ect, with maybe some bystanders/guards getting in between to buy you time to get out due to the confusion of the situation, I certainly wouldnt draw out a runeblade/bow or unholy magic/ghouls/ect and start mowing down civilians/alliance members ect lol thats inviting death on your char imo, but to each their own, I think its important to remember the difference between a place like Stormwind and say…Undercity or even Ogrimmar given their last leader was undead and her champions, Darkfallen, two very different places when it comes to what is the “norm”.
yeah, i think that most of your post is good too. you can RP as a darkfallen inside stormwind, but guard roleplayers/paladins/ whatever will attack you on sight.
P.S: i just noticed, we have the dark ranger customization, but belfs can be paladins. how would we explain that, mh?
