Dark Rangers in Stormwind City - RP

I thought the generation who treats clickbait video titles as fact died out years ago from their brain not getting any air.

A great time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Stormwind’s streets.

Four capitals and these actions led to the direct downfall of a fifth, along with the majority of at least four of these nations’ population.

They breathe through their mouths.

Haha yeah, I can imagine the amount of darkfallen thats gunna be about, saw a good few yesterday

Ah you have my thanks for the correction, didn’t know about the rest outside of Lordaeron and Quel’thalas.

You both got it wrong. Zovaal is to be blamed for all that.

What’s a zovaal? Sounds like a draenei to me.

Lordaeron, Quel’Thalas, Alterac, Dalaran and Gilneas. The first four he ((presumably in the case of Alterac, there’s meat wagons pointed towards the city + we don’t know when or why the city fell to ruin)) caused the downfall off directly, Gilneas fell because the Scourge would attack the Greymane Wall, Genn had the worgen summoned and the Forsaken would eventually blight the kingdom.

Shadowlands didn’t happen.

Probably auto-correct messing up. It’s obviously supposed to say “zoo wall”, not “zovaal”. Everyone knows the fall of Lordaeron was caused by zoo animals running amok.

See, if it didn’t happen, then we wouldn’t have these Dark Rangers waddling around Stormwind.

Sadly the same team who cooked up Shadowlands also is responsible for the lore implications and writing for the addition of Darkfallen to our factions.

I will not be surprised if the explanation for this will be some wowhead interview or twitter post about how the Jailer and Sylvanas no longer pulling the strings means these specific Undead should be treated like our new chumps instead of burned on a stake.

So:

  • We have multiple instance of lore supporting the possibility of Darkfallen belonging to the Alliance or at the very least working with the Alliance.
  • We have customisation options that allow Alliance player-characters (characters that belong to the Alliance or work with the Alliance) to be Darkfallen.
  • There are no prior instances of customisation options that allow player-characters to be a type of character that has been explicitly said to not belong to their faction.
  • Blizzard is known for inadequate and obfuscating handling of the lore that leaves important questions unanswered for months, if not years.

Therefore, the correct course of action is to use this as an opportunity to indulge in Argent Dawn’s beloved past-time of race riots and lynch mobs?

I personally find it more sensible to connect the dots and realise that these new Darkfallen character options for the Alliance imply that the possibilities mentioned by Calia and Tyrande are a reality now.
But I suppose I understand if people would rather enjoy the chance to engage in some good old-fashioned realistic mob violence roleplay instead.

Possibility =/= confirmation. It’s better to be safe than to welcome them with open arms only for the story to end up saying “actually they weren’t properly accepted in the end”

Sandfury Trolls and High Elves are not a part of the Horde no matter how much people want to say they are.

No? Dat’s a whole new sentence. Wtf is you talkin about.
This is a touchy subject considering the history that the Darkfallen Nelves have had. They are literal traitors who fought against the Alliance in a war less than a year ago lorewise, there is no concrete confirmation that they will be allowed into Stormwind. Just like there was no confirmation that Sandfury Trolls should be allowed in Orgrimmar.

I’m not a fan of mob lynching rp either, but I think this situation is also very different to what’s happened prior:

Death Knights were given an explicit royal pardon, despite their horrific past. This effectively outlawed violence against them and brought them into the Alliance.

Illidari were likewise accepted, albiet relucantly. Their “dark” magic is suspicious and often despised, but they’re recognized as using them for the protection of Azeroth - and so and on and so forth. Same with Warlocks and Void Elves, really.

Not many Darkfallen fit into the same bill, at least not yet. Granted, since the definition has been expanded to included basically every non-DK Undead Elf, there will always to room to fit one in. Potential examples include raised High Elves who didn’t pledge themselves to Sylvanas (as Shadowtwill correctly pointed out!), or Void Elves who may have died and were then raised in the 4th war?

People can also make Kaldorei Darkfallen too, there’s nothing stopping them and it could make for interesting RP. However what most people are saying is that it’s foolish to simply expect such characters to be accepted (IC) without prejudice and violence.

These aren’t formerly mind-controlled Scourge or Fel/Void-infused anti-heroes, these are people who actively took part in the Night Elf genocide - as recently as a few months ago. It’s true they may have been emotionally manipulated at the time, but unlike Death Knights it wasn’t Scourge mind control. They did have a choice. Many people in the Alliance won’t forget that quickly.

TLDR: People should feel free to RP Darkfallen - there are a few examples which could work. But with others they can’t expect their characters to be accepted in Alliance lands. At least not until we get some hard confirmation the Alliance officially does so.

This is the sand troll situation all over again.
Without lore, I’m going to assume they’re evil IC.
Though I can’t kill them, I can be be abrasive and aggressive IC. I will throw apples, stones and hate!

Except that will most likely not be the case since we got the customisation options.

Simple as.

It’s Blizz we’re talking about.

Nah, you see, that would make the player behind the victimized nosferatu darkfallen creature character start comparing their situation akin to marginalized groups and thus assume you are using your own avatar as a mouthpiece for your OOC bigotry.

Clearly you and me RPing characters who may have 20~ years of near constant hostile interactions towards the Undead have to do a 180 degrees turn with their convictions and prejudice and dial down their violent tendencies when dealing with Darkfallen.
