I’ll be starting on this lengthy questline pretty soon. Obviously, back in Ye Goode Olde Days very few people ever completed the whole chain, as doing so caused you to lose the rod.
This was patched at a later point in the game so that you could turn it in and still keep the rod - but I’m not sure when that change was made. Was it 1.12, or was it TBC era, or even WotLK era?
So, my question, for anyone who’s completed the whole chain on Classic WoW is - does the rod vanish when you turn in the penultimate stage of the chain, like it did in Vanilla, or do you get to keep the rod, as it was during the later patches?
Very, very, earth-shatteringly important question. I’d hate to lose the rod.
Wait till the last quest, just before handing it in, destroy the rod, speak to the guy, ask for it back, then hand Q in, then go to blizzard and log a restore item request (this does work i did it)
That definitely works?
I’m not very familiar with this restore item service, I don’t think it existed during the period I played WOW.
Definitely works, did it last week, 100%
OK, thank you. I’ll risk it.
Why can not you stop on the 5th chain quest and keep the rod without risking ?
Reward for completing chain is not that good.

Why would u risk that? If u can just quit doing the quest anny further when u get the rod…
He might even be trolling u.
I’m not trolling, check wowhead forums, I can even screenshot my item restore ticket to prove, I did it last week
Vanished for me after I turned the last quest. I did not vendor it.
Do it in this order
Get to last quest
Go to the guy
Destroy the rod
Speak to the guy to get another one,
complete the quest
Go to blizzard - restore item request
Check your mail
Sounds like a hack. Though pretty harmless one.
How is it a hack?
Blizzard have an item restore facility in place and the quest giver can also give you another one, your just using them both so that you can keep it as a toy
No he’s not trolling. His advice is also shared by people on Wowhead - I checked.
It all seems legit. Sure there’s always a risk, Blizzard could stealth-patch it so that the destroyed staff can’t be reclaimed, or any number of things - but I’ve never liked leaving quests unfinished, even if the rewards aren’t great. I did so in the past because keeping the rod trumps the mild feeling of incompletion I get when abandoning the chain. Now there’s a chance I can get both.
Worst that can happen is that I just lose the staff, but I guess I had it on 15 other characters back in the pre-Cataclysm days, so it’s not as though I never got to experience the awesomeness of turning into a Furbolg.

Destroying and restoring the rod works. Just make sure you don’t accidently destroy any other important items as the restoration has a 30 day cooldown.

Yeah that would be bad.
Though, having said that, at level 23, my char isn’t exactly weighed down with irreplaceable gear. Just a handful of crappy greens, a few profession mats, ammo, some meat for my pet and a Lucky Rabbits Foot, that for some stupid, superstitious reason I have to carry around with me at all times.
There was no item restore service in vanilla. You would ask game master and they would restore item for you. I don’t think that they would restore that rod after you completed that quest.
It increases your luck. Remember, it stacks. I’ve got 4 of them. It really works.
Haha yeah sure it does
Just like typing /roll a few times before killing a boss uses up all the bad rolls, leaving only good ones - thus increasiing your chance of getting the loot.
Or making sure that the loot is properly seeded in your favour by ensuring that the class needing a specific item is always last through the portal.
… and let’s not even get started on Ony’s deep breathing
