Dead servers MEGATHREAD - Ghostlands/Dragonblights plea to Blizzard

I support this thread as I come from a small and also alliance dominated realm. My guild was the only one horde side killing heroic nzoth this patch and azshara previous.
We had 5+ guilds leave from the server just in legion and another couple during bfa.

Me and some friends had enough and server changed. Started over raiding crossrealm with our old guild through a community. Now we have 20+ ppl to take to some mythic and finding new members seems super easy compared.

I feel bad spending money on it though but even if a fix is coming they will probably just put 2 alliance majority server together.

Lets still hope that all the people struggling out there with this will get a solution sooner or later.

Its completely different being on a high populated realm where A or H are dominating than being on a realm where theres less than 50 people online at peak hours.

I’d take faction inbalance any time. Not that it matter than much these days anyway.

OTOH if your server is tiny on both factions (looking at you GL-DB) then the AH is still useless. 2500g per flask and nothing else sells, so if you aren’t a herb/alch you spend the entire week grubbing for enough money to fund 2 raids.

It killed my interest in the end. One more character and I’m done with the whole mess. C19 has, if nothing else, reduced my pub expenses, so that money is going to transfers. Good luck to Blizz when a whole bunch of them are literally empty and new players join and quit within a few days because they think WoW is dead.

Oh wow, that’s a horrendous price for flasks! :frowning: It’s not quite as bad on my realm, but nothing other than herbs and flasks seem to sell. I hear people on busier realms talking about selling leather or bags and it’s so disheartening because I know those things just don’t sell on my realm. Transmog and rare items are just a joke - they just don’t exist for us.

I’m sorry that you’re having to spend so much to get out of this situation - I really wish Blizz would hurry up and let us know if they are actually going to do something about dead realms.

I mean, some of this is Blizzard failing to give professions a craftable, sellable product that other players actually want regularly. Bags you buy once, transmog you can do without. Tomes of the Tranquil Mind might sell, but rarely - same for gems and stirrups.

OTOH, over on AD, most things have a market, plenty of things are for sale, and as such, the only thing that is grossly overinflated is Zin’athid. Which may or may not be selling - most weeks I can farm enough on my own for my own uses.

So far nothing about realm connections or similar in the Shadowlands previews =/

Did I miss something?

And 5 character transfers later, I guess Blizzard have won.

Pity the newbie who joins a dead realm for they will leave the game within weeks.

Ny’alotha was released on 2020-01-14.

Limit had cleared Heroic 10 days later and started on Mythic 4 days after that, clearing it on 2020-02-6.

i am going to start doing some more numbers on 2020-05-01, 4 months after the raid was released, and 3 months after the raid was first cleared by limit. This is probably a fair amount of time for any guild wanting to make actual progress, hardcore or casual, to complete their goals, as much longer, and you will need to start giving people a reason to keep raiding while they keep themselves ocupied waiting for the next tier/expansion and have lost interest in the current tier.

ALSO, 2020-05-19 marks the 1 YEAR anniversary since i made this post. 1 WHOLE year, with no replies here, or ANYWHERE from blizz except lies (sorry, i mean promises) saying “we’re looking into it” when they had to give some answer at blizzcon when fans brought the question up.

i have not played AT ALL since 2019-11-06 and had no sub since 2019-12. As such, I would like to thank all who have kept this thread going for the year, especially Daestra who has many times kept the thread going when it was close to getting locked.

I’ve always said people are free to do what they want with their money, but at this point, after a year of this thread, 18 months of me trying to bring attention to it, and tbh a problem that has been going on for well over a decade WHICH BLIZZARD ARE WELL AWARE ABOUT, it should BE CLEAR to people that blizzard doesn’t care about your playing experience. They want your money for server transfers. Even though we’ve had MORE than enough proof that blizzard dont care, they have one LAST chance if somehow you’re still giving them the benefit of the doubt: when Shadowlands comes out. If servers are still going to limit players experience like they currently are when Shadowlands RELEASES (NOT later in the expansion), then you need to face facts and stop deluding yourself.

BLIZZARD. DONT. CARE. ABOUT. YOU.

Seriously consider is ANY person or entity worthy of your hard earned money before you take out your credit card if you dont get the product you were shown? Would you let someone standing in front of you treat you like this?

and 2 clips for thought i think more people need to understand “actually happened” and should be spread around the community as much as possible:

51:00 - 51:30 this is how blizzard think of us, and specifically, Ion.

that blizzard allows such imbalance… and dead servers (for 1 or both factions) is beyond not caring about their customers.

I feel your pain. I have played on this server (Frostwhisper) since 2005 vanilla. Back then it was fairly full. It had a decent faction balance from what I remember but as an alliance player it was decent. Plenty of people, plenty of guilds, had great times on here.

Then around MoP I think they opened free migration and the server plummeted, especially alliance side. It is now classed as low and is connected with two other (Zenedar and Bladedist) low servers. Alliance side is a joke, no one ever talks in /2, no one selling, recruiting, pugging etc. Auction house is a joke, hardly any stuff on there or way over priced due to lack of sellers so not only hard to buy anything you need but also to sell.

It just doesn’t feel like an MMO!

I’m a casual player so progression isn’t a big thing for me but like I said the other stuff is. I literally feel like I’m playing a single player game, I can’t buy or sell anything on AH.

I have given in and transferred a couple of chars off but the price is ridiculous. I earn decent money and can easily pay for a transfer and I I pay for my monthly sub rather than grind gold for a token. But I am also a bit of an altaholic, so why should I have to pay £20 per char when I still have a good 5 that I would like off this realm, that’s another £100 on top of the transfers I have already paid for.

I could reroll for free but I have had most my characters since vanilla, this one I created the day bc launched, so I’m kind of attached. So I will retool a paladin on a new server and think “I’ll pay 20 and move my paly over” but like I said I’m an altaholic, next week I might wanna play my warrior (it’s a real problem for me :weary:) so where does it stop?

How much are we supposed to spend!?

I don’t see why they cans just merge all the low/med servers and just have x amount of full ones.

Names are not an issue before someone brings that up as we already have merged servers, it’s just yourname-yourrealm so one name per server but several same name on connected realms.

Blizzard needs to sort it, it’s been long enough! I think that there’s probably more people who are in this situation who end up quitting than actually paying for a transfer, myself included. I only resubbed due to lock down.

I’m enjoying the game, don’t get me wrong I’m not here to bash the game but the customer service Blizzard offers is appalling!

Just merge all the servers

lmao. same as!

true. most people wouldn’t make such a fuss if they didn’t deep down actually care deeply. hence why ive been pushing this for 18+ months.

yes. its terrible. its just shocking and cant help but make people think what their actual goals are.

I get that all the focus is on Shadowlands and all the exciting newy-newness that comes with it, but I am sure that others on low pop realms are also seeing this content with a slightly sinking heart thinking “am I going to be able to take part in this?”. My guild has struggled with members and recruitment all through BfA and Ny’alotha has been the only tier where we’ve had enough people to clear heroic. The revamped guild finder had been a godsend for finding new members but I still dread the thought that I might not be able to raid in Shadowlands due to being unable to get together a whopping 10 people.

But what can we do when the advice for anyone joining the game is to go to one of the busiest servers? When people leave smaller servers because the AH is dead, there’s no mythic raid scene, their guilds are empty? The question asked at Blizzcon gave many of us hope that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, that change was coming. But it’s nearly 6 months later and we’ve heard nothing and I’m not sure how long optimism can hold out…

I know the blues cant fix this problem, but it would be nice just to let us know they’ve seen the topic and is aware of it. I caved in the end and gave blizz my money and server transfered. I dont regret my choice, but i wish they would fix the problem instead.

Just like to bump this thread. As a casual player with 4 120’s on Dragonblight I don’t care about raiding, but the place is deserted. I have also been playing on and off since vanilla (subbed 2005) and as stated previously Dragonblight once was a great place to be. It would really be nice to either give free realmtransfers (if you (Blizzard) do that, please inform all active subs by email and just not on forums)) or merge low pop reals with mid pop realms to create a great community.

Should prolly post with my main char on Dragonblight for the above post ^^

Exactly, this is what I mean by appalling customer service. They don’t even acknowledge these types of threads but are happy to comment on ones like “What’s your favourite mount”, instead they just leave us in the dark.

They obviously know that it is a major issue for a lot of people and addressing it at blizzcon by saying we are looking into it and then just leaving it at that is not helping.

I don’t know much about programming or whatever it would come under but I’m sure they have the technology in 2020 to merge all the low/med servers to create a couple more high pop ones, but even if they don’t then they could offer us all free migrations.

We all pay a monthly sub for this game, been on a low server makes it harder to make gold as the ah is dead so it’s harder to farm for a token, plus pay a lump sum for expansions I think we atleast deserve a response to a genuinely concerning issue.

while true, at this point im not sure how much that would be worth. it would be like ion or whoever said at blizzcon “we’re looking into it”. we’ve seen how much thats been worth over the last 6 months, or 2.5 years if you take into account the “successful” Brazilian server tests.

this is the SIXTH most viewed ACTIVE thread on forums (ie, its still relevant and you can have your say.) and 48th overall. the others being:
5th: TGC selling thread (2018-11) a valid long term thread
4th: complaints about vulpera racial (2019-11) basically, faction imbalance post
3rd: account wide essences (2019-12) a problem that should never have existed if blizz thought for 2 seconds
2nd: high elves (2019-04) a valid request going for years, which blizz have just spat in the faces of these people
1st: cow level (2018-11) really? no. 1? and with blue responses? ffs!

i guess that shows that while not everyone is willing to participate, or somehow dont even see it as a problem, at least its drawing attention.

13th most commented on ACTIVE thread, and 46th most commented overall, which in and of itself is both impressive and disappointing as most people usually comment on things when theres an instant annoyance at it. just look at some of the topics that have more comments.

the thread is also a year old, which means its maybe the 4th oldest active thread. so they’ve had NO reason not to see it before now.

i think at this point the only reply worthy of accepting is a weekly update post somewhere on their progress. and i think the answer needs to be 2 fold now.
A) a region wide AH (or at least a few AH’s per region. NOT 1 per server)
B) i will take them for their word years ago that the technology to join servers pre WoD wont work now because of phasing and sharding. (and we know how beautifully that tech has helped the game!) thus, there are 2 ways to move forward:
i) remove sharding/phasing and use a “worlds” approach like GW2
ii) a server joining. devs know the REAL numbers of toons/players per server. they could create new servers, and move all players to this new server until its a REAL high pop realm, then lock it. do this for all servers that are dead/low and then just delete the old empty servers. you could probably cut the numbers of servers down from 250~ servers to about 75, and ALL would be alive and populate. OH, and i would make sure it is balanced also. either make the new servers 100% of a faction, or 50%. now wpvp is toggled it doesn’t matter if a server is 100% a faction, but it DOES matter if they are only 98%, cause that 2% of the other faction would be basically a dead server for them.

at the end of it all, blizz KNOW the REAL numbers of players playing, which im suspecting is actually lower than we’re led to believe if wowprogress (retail) and ironforge.pro (classic) is anything to go by.

where are these 4.5-5M players? cause they’re not on ghostlands.

oh, and one last thing on my servers death. of the 5 horde guilds left raiding in 8.3, we’ve lost one more that has left the server. so we’re now down to 4 horde guilds, if the other 3 are still actually going to be here in Shadowlands.

Ghostlands/dragonblight may end up like that video above, with only 1 raiding horde guild on it maybe…

It is a concering issue and they are sitting on it since MoP,so i would just bite the bullet m8 and flee.Welcome to Draenor.

It is probably one of the reasons Draenor is so over populated. If you are going to move, you might as well move to a busy realm. So Silvermoon or Draenor if you’re looking for an English realm.
