What Kuwei and Telaryn said, I was trying to rattle my own calcium dome in trying to remember details but they beat me to it.
ok but what if i get to make funny jokes about lots of orcs dying though
The Lightbound are just less-racially motivated Scarlet Crusaders and with added crystals. They’re clearly less actively sadistic than the Iron Horde, who actively enjoyed their murdering, but they definitely ain’t a friendly gang and certainly not less ruthless.
Was clearly not what was happening but okay. The thing is all we saw of the Lightbound is that they’re “draenei but zealous” which after a good portion of ur people were mass-killed to fuel The funny Door isn’t really something I’d blame them for. Considering that Blizzard seems to write Orcs as basically just needing to be promised 5 dollars in order to immediately begin going murder-mode (as hilariously stupid and comically evil it makes them seem).
Frankly the Lightbound kill less than most people, considering they mostly leave the people they attack frozen in stasis in that recruitment scenario. Also need to bare in mind the sole informant we have for the Lightbound being “totally really the worst bro” is Grommash “Draenor is free” Hellscream lol
Also I didn’t unironically mean they did nothing wrong, just that this idea that they’re uniquely baddies compared to the Mag’har isn’t really true.
And another reason why they’re kind of Boring. WoW’s writers are super guilty of treading the same well-trod path long after the time it was fresh, and Light Bad, Actually was done with Scarlets (and done… and done, and done, and still d-) and felt like a bit of a crummy ending to the whole WoD arc.
Also, the AU Mag’har after being told the timeline was sealed, when the Outland one are right there…
100% when they appear in the story again they will be hyper-villain batted as it’s revealed that Y’rel actually pushes in the soft parts of babies’ heads because the light mother tells her to because they really need to show that the light is just as bad as everything else or something which 100% isn’t a plot thread they did in Classic and also Wrath and also Cataclysm and also MoP and also Legion and also BfA and also Shadowlands and-
This is also after most of the races on Draenor has been genocided either by being purged outright or being made to join the ranks of the Lightbound and it is causing the corruption of Draenor itself.

That would be the Lightbound themselves justifying why they need to conquer the universe. Assimilate everyone to your religion because Xe’ra demands it. Everyone who resists must be purged, as per the adjective they use.
As said by Grommash Hellscream, as he stands behind an industrial megaplex the Orcs built. He is incredibly trustworthy and I’m sure this is exactly what happened.
Still, apparently at first the Draenei and Orcs on Draenor managed to get along after the Legion’s defeat. I remember Geyarah speaking about how they hunted down the last remaining demons together and built their world back up. Draenei apparently even taught her to read and write, and she says “those were good days.”
It was only after apparently more Naaru arrived that they started to become the Lightbound. Sadly we never really got much more story other than the Mag’har scenario to detail what happened in those thirty years ( on their side of the portal) between WoD and BfA.
I think he’s more trustworthy than the fanatics out to genocide all of Draenor so that the entire planet suits their image of the world. Mostly because I don’t think that one industrial megaplex or several more like it would have such world-wide effects with the Mag’har nearing their breaking point with much of their territory lost to the Lightbound.
i tap the sign
The Naaru arrived on AU-Draenor and, without demons to fight, the draenei became fixated upon the Light.
At some point, Draenor began to deteriorate for unknown reasons.
The Lightbound believed that the Mag’har orcs were choking the life from Draenor and dooming the land to desiccation, and blamed the Mag’har for the once-fertile land becoming lifeless dust, while Grommash Hellscream believed that it was the Light that had doomed the planet.
Having received visions from the Light Mother, the High Exarch knew that the Army of the Light would bring order to countless worlds in the Great Dark Beyond. But first, the Mag’har needed to be taught to trust the naaru as well, for they brought peace and order.
The naaru compelled the draenei to spread their influence among the orcs.
The Lightbound sent sermons, explaining they wished for all the people of Draenor to be unified in purpose.
Those resisting the Light were seen as an infection that prevented “Draenor’s heart from being whole”.
Many orcs converted to the Light willingly, but others had the Light forced upon them.
Some orcs even sided with the draenei against their own kin, including Grommash’s own son.
War followed, until the two sides found themselves in a stalemate in Gorgrond, where the Lightbound refused to attack Hellsreach Citadel.
Convinced that the Mag’har had no hope of winning against the Lightbound, Kor’gall, Greatson of Kor’gall and his followers secretly joined them.
While the Mag’har were dealing with the ogres, Lightbound forces led by Exarch Orelis captured Evermorn Hold and used it as a staging ground for an attack against Beastwatch.
However, the Mag’har repelled the assault and retaliated. In their assault on Evermorn, Overlord Geya’rah, Eitrigg, and a Horde champion killed Orelis.
As the Mag’har celebrated their victory, High Exarch Yrel and her entire army arrived on the field.
With her vastly superior numbers, the High Exarch offered Hellscream and the Mag’har one last chance to embrace the Light by joining the Lightbound. However, Grommash refused her offer, and stayed behind while the Mag’har fled to Azeroth
Actually no in our out of game lore support the genocide part, just forcefull conversation at best, and the Mag’har waged a war against the Lightbound, but as the final confrontation demonstrated, Yrel had the numbers and technology all along to end them… just not used her forces
Not untill her hand were forced basically…
did the orcs try simply building their homes in places less likely to get purged by The Holy Light™ if not that sounds like their mistake really
If the Orcs don’t want to be hit by surface-to-air Lightbeams maybe they should reconsider building their houses in a live fire zone, silly billies.
It was a legit good story, the lore of the orcs was quite cool back then.
The conversation kinda moved on from where I left it, so I will leave my reply at this bit!
(this also falls under the definition of genocide)
I never disagreed with you on that.
Oh yeah I’m more showing it to the audience esp after this one mf copy pasted the entire wowpedia page for Lightbound
Not really
A genocide is deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.
The Orc genocided many species
Some brainwashing and lightforging is not really on par with, I don’t know, lets say extermination and building a road from the victims bones
