Dalaran canonically has a history of acute lead poisoning because of the pipes
This was always part of the lore by the way. Huln and his eagle spear were created by Knaak in the WoA novels.
Damn it really is America.
A smatter of demonic corruption will do that.
But even then you still had plenty of people misunderstanding the virtues of the Church in the period between the Second and Third Wars.
Everytime a player comes at me ingame going “Light is just as bad as Fel/Void/Arcane/Necromancy” Desartin’s eyes flash a powerful shade of red.

I am not denying that. Darkshore 8.1 was a great romp for Night Elves at first.
But the the way it ended, followed by having to spend most of the Warfronts listening to Maiev practically beg Sira to stop, just tainted what should have been an experience that revitalized the Night Elves.
It’s that annoying way how Blizzard seemingly can’t write a Night Elf story without throwing something in at the end that just makes the experience unsatisfying in the long run.
It’d be like if 10.2 ended with the Night Elves abandoning Kalimdor. But surely blizzard isn’t tone deaf enough to do that!
The language and magic of Order, that the Titans use? The Titans who also use the Light?
How dare you speak ill of the arcane!
Fel and void can get in the bin. They’re not and never shall be good. They make you mad and take your soul.
I meant to actually put “Necromancy there” but I heard people say Arcane is bad too so it found it’s way on there. Still, my bad!
Coughs at the Scarlet Crusade
Tee hee : )
They were led astray by a demon. A demon born of fel.
Thus it is not Light that is the issue. Just humans being blinded… By the fel entity!
tbf, Arcane magic does draw in demons like vultures to a fresh corpse. It might not intentionally be evil, but it does draw the attention of those who are.
Meanwhile I’m over here wondering who was Desdel Stareye thinking I must’ve missed a large questchain or something, but turns out he was some random nobody in one (story?) quest and gets immediately owned hard, since (story?) quest npcs are never hard anyway.
quite fitting I would say lol+lmao
Honestly at this point I think that’s just an in universe misconception. It seems more likely that great power, no matter the source, draws Demons. It doesn’t really make any sense that specifically Arcane is alluring to demons, but that’s just my opinion.
Arcane is probably of interest to the Legion/demons in particular because it seems that there’s a pretty hard corrolation between arcane and also an advanced society. Which they seem to like corrupting/burning. Happened with the Eredar and the Night Elves after all.
Desartin Duncan Senturus
Yeah, definitely! To me it doesn’t seem inherent. If the Well of Eternity had been a well of Light energy and the night elves used it like they did the actual Well, the Burning Legion would have been drawn to Azeroth, too (at least I think they would).
Many do seem to forget that paladins used to outright distrust mages during the Second War! That and that paladins were infamous for their sometimes swift judgement, executing people on the spot, as Duncan was going to do with Rhonin if not for Vereesa.
While Des is by all means a moderate man, sometimes the zealot does shine through and it’s nice to thread that line in rp!
I think that misconception might come from the RPG, as there’s a set of arcane law’s in there that say that.
But from what we’ve seen in the canon lore, is that its mostly Arcane user’s that just go a bit too far in their search for power, or are too ambitious and start summoning demons, as was the case for Thal’kiel, which in turn might’ve put the Eredar in that particular case on the map.
I don’t think we’ve seen other examples, in regards to other cosmic forces, but I could be mistaken.
Arcane is power. That is what leads to Legion to your door steps.
Yeah, its with fel users that they carve power and want more. Demons like any value power over anything. Fel, arcane what ever. It is just a sippy juice for you.
This, but also in the warlock green fire quest we find out that Doomguards used to be Titanforged beings that were created to hunt those who abuse Arcane magic to the point of drawing other demons. After Sargeras’s fall, he corrupted the Doomguards to use their innate ability to find Arcane magic users to corrupt.
But this is Doomguard-specific lore
