The more you know
It´s important to note that this is something that was created pre-Chronicle, when Fel was just a version of Arcane.
It´s why in old lore, Arcane magic turned people into megalomaniacs and a warlock trainer in Ratchet warns player about dangers of Arcane. And all kinds of elves were able to suck on demons to sate their Arcane addiction.
Arcane lore overall can be messy because of this, as all of this old lore is still canon even though the magic system has been changed on a fundamental level to the point where the old lore doesn´t make sense anymore. Just like the bit where demons are drawn by Arcane magic because they like to chomp on it (as, just like all Highborne elves, they´re super addicted).
I mean, sure, old lore is this and that, but it would make sense for Kaldorei to become Warlocks. At least Highborne. Demons tempted them with power and they went with it. I feel like Arcane is just stepping stone for fel.
After the war almost as a direct response to the Orcish warlocks because mages were meddling with powers few other than mages actually comprehended. The Church of the Holy Light as a whole was only one excuse away from excommunicating the Kirin Tor and the peasantry nearly revolted against Dalaran because the magi were exempted from taxation.
It’s a neat detail I feel is only remembered by the two instances we have of Scarlet Crusaders being vocally opposed to mages.
Tax? Aight, I am dumping the tea into the sea
What lack of knowledge does to a mf the average Lordaeron peasant didn’t understand that Dalaran being a sovereign city-state enclave within Lordaeron (continent) didn’t make it a vassal of Lordaeron (nation).
It would, but that´s not what I´m talking about.
In old lore, Arcane wasn´t a cosmic magic of Order, it was a chaotic, corrupting, evil magic that also coursed through the veins of demons (in form of Fel) who were addicted to it and this addiction was the fuel for their Burning Crusade.
Desdel Stareye was the second in command of the Kaldorei Resistence during the War of the Ancients books.
I can’t even remember him playing a role in Legion.
I forgive them. Even Blizzard has a habit of forgetting the Alliance isn’t a nation.
We’re all subjects of High King Anduin Wrynn, his provinces are led by lesser Kings/Queens and Religious leaders, just as the Light intended.
Also a druggie that no one missed when he died. I think he consumed “snuff” or what you or I would call it, the white powder.
Yeah, arcane wasn’t strictly evil, it was the magic found in the Nether. That’s why the demons, denizens of the Nether, were drawn towards whoever was casting: they were using their dimension’s magic.
Now Arcane Magic isn’t anymore a thing of the Nether, it’s now the force of Order and so it may be that demons would be lured regardless of the source, but as far as we know demons have displayed a bit of a preference towards attacking civilizations with arcane magic.
Remember Archimonde’s words:
From this seal shall arise the doom of men,
who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own. [he’s speaking about Dalaran’s arcane magic]
Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit.
Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control.
This is pre-retcon (which is problematic for areas like Netherstorm but eeh) so not sure how one should take this, as now arcane is just the opposite of what the Legion stands for, but well, there you go.
Can’t wait for 10.3 - Tree? What new world tree?
10.3 is probably not happening - Fyrakk has the Ahead of the Curve mount attached (which is always the last raid of the expac, so far as I know) and 10.2 also seems to have the pathfinder metachivo this go around.
Expecting 10.2 to be the last raid patch, with a 10.2.5 story, maybe 10.2.7 as well.
True at least they kept it short
Mixed feelings about that (if true)- great that they’re trying to spread out newly introduced villains and have like, a longer overarching story for them that carries over expansions, but also… I don’t think Iridikron (sp?) has the personality to carry a longer story.
Especially when Vyranoth is like ‘lol whatevs’ and joins ur side crazily.
Unless Iridikron becomes like, a Saturday morning dungeon villain.
I’m guessing he’ll end up filling a role like Gul’dan did for WoD->Legion.
Me? My druid of the talon is based on Thisalee Crow before they gave her a VC in Legion.
Its also why my druid is a druid and a rogue OOC because again Thisalee does a few rogue-like things in the hyjal quest where you’re being up Marion.
Also can’t wait for that new druid bear form (the Umbraclaw) so I can be more bird in bear form like I am in catform with the hidden artifact appearence on her.
Also Bristlebruin for my tauren druid because leaf bear form to go with leaf cat form.
But did you use them in WC3? Which is what Kat is referring to.
RPing one is the way forward, cause flying and storms go pew.
Actually briefly, but briefly because I didn’t play WC3 for long.
Got fed up somewhere in the nelf campaign NGL.
(Don’t ask where, I haven’t played the damned thing in over a decade)
