Death at hardcode due to disconnect with game update

I lost my character in WoW Hardcore due to a disconnect. When I tried to reconnect, I got an ‘incompatible’ message, and the game began an update. By the time I was able to log back in, it was too late—my character had died. Several mobs had attacked me, likely after respawning. How is this even possible to make disconnect with update while i play the game??

Quite unfortunate death, I think the disconnect timer is quite lower on the HC realms.

You cannot continue playing the game on an outdated player client version.

Why those updates not when server reset after maintance. Updates while server is live on HC are unacceptable, as u can lose your character.

That’s a good question, since the HC version is not standalone - they run off from the same Classic client it is likely they also get rebooted the same way.

I recommend to submit a suggestion ingame if you’d like to see it changed but we’ve seen these type deaths too from previous rollouts at the Era HC ones.

It has been suggested before. When Blizz deploy a hot fix it can cause a DC even if players have disabled download in background permissions.

Quitting Battlenet after launching WoW seems to make the Shell a little more stable, but doesn’t avoid a Hotfix

Such permissions doesn’t stop the server from checking your current version and booting you off to download if necessary, that’s how master servers work.

Not really, a development team would usually allow a time frame for an update to be applied rather than simply disconnecting users from the network to force an update.

In a corporate environment a user is given a warning if an update is required to ensure no work is lost due to a disconnect.

Lazy development and implementation is noticeably killing HC Players due to DC in these situations and is pretty unforgivable given the time a player has invested levelling.

brushing the concerns away with the statement “That’s How Master Servers Work” is incredibly unhelpful as it displays a lack of technical knowledge and an alarming absence of empathy.

I would expect better from somebody acting as a moderator / forum champion.

Why don’t you reach out to the technical team and get some better information to share with the forum?
