Look, I think we can all agree that the author is a terrible human being and a racist sexist, but, that is a seperate issue to the sexuality of the characters at question here, neither of which have ever been explicitly stated to be straight, and could have been anything, more or less

The “build up” was her going “Okay they are into each other now” and this new book is “Okay so now we made their whole personality that they are gay and erased everything interesting about them to make this their one sole trait”.

OK, let’s illustrate why the folks talked about in the thread suddenly going gay is so weird.
Here’s a quest in which we meet Flynn:
The description:
" You see that ship? I know that ship. Let’s just say her captain and I have a little history. It’s a smuggling vessel. Our illegal weapons are on there for sure. I’d bet my coat on it… and I love this coat. We need to find out where it’s going… How are you in tight spaces? "
He says that he had a little history with “her” - a woman.
In the very next quest he is getting charmed by an NPC. Who is also a woman.
Etc, etc, etc.
So, yeah. These folk were straight all the way until it was decided that they should be retrofitted to be gay. That’s forced.
