I don’t see any difference between naming now and Classic 2019. Vanilla tended to have slightly more “fantasy” names that fit with the world, but evem then the difference was minimal and you had joke names and ransom things too.
While I prefer people having possible name. The Blizzard official game guide from 2004 literally suggested to call your char “Chair” or “Lavalamp” if your favourite name was taken.
