Deserter debuff in LFR isn't working as intended

Queued for an LFR, killed boss 2 and 3, LFR finished. After this re-queued, since I missed the first boss, killed boss 1, looted and left… (There’s no reason to do boss 2 or 3 again, because you’re locked out of loot.)

Guess what? I got the deserter debuff.

I don’t think this is working like intended, there should not be a penalty if you have defeated every boss in there.

The penalty is for leaving an instance in progress, irrespective of your personal kills.

You could submit a suggestion ingame if you think this should be changed tho.

I understand you shouldn’t leave early, but if you’ve done everything there is to do in an LFR, you should be able to leave without penalty.

I think this is an oversight of the dev team that made this hotfix and should be addressed.

No, IT IS working as intended!

The system is there, and it’s not coded to go “Hmm let’s check if this person has already killed x, y & z bosses!”.

It’s always been like this, so I’m surprised that you’re acting like this, unless you’re extremely new to World of Warcraft. This debuff was not working correctly at the beginning of TWW, so I’m sure you got used to this and were leaving after a single kill, when an item never dropped. However, it’s been fixed, and the system is now up and running like it always has.

You have a 30 minute debuff. You have more than enough content or real life things to do, to give that debuff time to expire.

The only people who get overly offended by this are people who often leave dungeons/raids when they just need 1 item, or are just serial leavers in everything they do. Like people who leave a dungeon/raid because of single wipe xD

It is working as intended.

What should be fixed is putting people without prior boss kills into raids that already have downed bosses.

No it’s not working as intended, it was only intended for dungeons. It was never intended or even mentioned as a solution for raids. If the LFR puts you in after the first boss, the only reason you’d go in to do it again is to finish off the boss you missed, bosses you have already completed will not consider you for any loot or rewards.

Blizzard can’t strongarm you into completing a raid you’re already saved to, and are only doing because the system screwed you over on the first boss to begin with, wasting more of your time.

It has literally never been like this, not in raids or dungeons, they literally implemented it today.

Then if anyone ever leaves after the first boss the raid will get no replacements, genius.

LFR scales to the amount of players in there either way. It’s only a problem if people that are tank or healers leave. If you’re not full on DPS, it doesn’t matter because it gets scaled down.

This seems simply fixed:

If a person leaves early, but is already saved to the instance, no penalty.

If the person leaves early but is not saved to the instance, penalty.

Would also solve the problem of leavers in dungeons, though m+ will solve that problem on it’s own

That’s how it worked prior to today.

This is only not a problem if you assume tanks/healers don’t leave, which they do, so we’re back to square one.

There would be no backfills if that was the case. And I’d rather run the wing an extra time than having to try multiple times because tanks always leave after boss X.

Would be nicer if they’d give some bonus at least.
Doesn’t have to be big, but anything.
As long as it’not full ID in LFR, let the bosses drop some crafting mats, gold, valorstones, whatever. Just something to make fishing the ID twice less frustrating because you joined an ID as “helper”.

Or even a queue for filling groups after you have ID. For some cosmetics or whatever.

lol, amazing getting punished for leaving due to prior killings from joining a raid in progress…

I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve been dropped into a raid after the first boss or two were already killed.

And Blizz wants to punish us for leaving after wasting out time waiting to join the same wing again to kill those bosses missed??

Screw that. I ain’t wasting my time killing a boss that yields NOTHING because I already killed it. They better make it such that if you’ve gotten all later kills you don’t get the penalty!

“Always”? Don’t BS, you weren’t penalised after a boss was killed…

That will great increase queue time.

I am sure there will still be a lot of players leaving after 1 boss kill, even if there is deserter debuff.

Then the group with killed boss will almost never find replacement under your suggestion.

It will greatly increase the time for the group to find replacement and the queue time for players to find a fresh run.

Due to all the loot leavers surrounding the spider boss in ara-kara, People now get deserter always if they leave, even if a boss was killed

You can leave LFR without getting a debuff if you wiped at a boss at least once.

It’s a bit of an ugly wokraround, but if I was in this situation where I was backfilled, killed two bosses, then queued again and killed the first boss, but was unable to leave without a deserter debuff, it would cross my mind to not heal or play mechanics at the next boss. It wouldn’t even stand out as half the people in LFR play like that anyway.

Or you can just ninja pull the boss when half of the raid is outside the room.

Which should also be fixed.
This is Blizzard’s responsibility.

Should also be fixed.

Look; at the end of the day I don’t view this as a ‘big issue’. I hardly ever notice people leaving during an LFR wing, except if the main tank or something leaves, but I rarely have that experience.

But it ‘would be nice’ if Blizzard could fix this in some way.

Personally, I think that the debuff is a good thing, even if you have killed 2/3 bosses and need the first, you in essence queue for the whole thing; so therefore I think the debuff is fair. However, what I do think should be added is an opt-in for joining in progress.

Simply the same option that FFXIV has: A checkbox that when ticked gives you the chance of being put in an already on-going instance, they could even expand this for LFR in particular and allow you to choose with which boss you want to start on when going for the opt-in. Maybe even add an additional reward when enabled (50-100 Valorstones or something) to entice people to keep it on.

It would just be an additional flag to the queue that it can look for, so everyone would still be in the same queue but a few may have an additional flag like [JoinInProgress][Boss#2].
So when new people need to be added to an instance in progress it could look for the additional flags.

It might increase the time people have to wait, or it might not if Blizzard gives away a decent opt-in reward. But that would allow everyone to choose whether they want to start in a fresh instance or being flung into one that has already advanced.

Dungeons are another can of worms imho, but an opt-in could be added as well, I guess.

Well, if you get punished for leaving run like the OP said. Why dont you get rewarded for getting qued, which is out of your controll, to half done run?

Why is he forced to do the raid twice because of some dip- :poop: left ?
Can we somehow blacklist ques for half done runs?
