Hey Blizzard. I’m just an ordinary guy and I’ve played World of Warcraft many years now. And I love the game. But. There has been a lot of changes to the game over the past 20 years. And one of the saddest ones you’ve made is the one about. Deserter from getting kicked from almost everything. It’s not always. The character who get kicked. That made the problem. So, all the other toxic guys out there, and we know he’s had games, has the most toxic people in the whole Internet Society. You need to fix this. Because I’m sitting now in gaming, I like it. But if I got my mind set on playing something like dungeons Time or dungeons, I want to make the best of my time when I’m playing. So, when people kick me in this case, I played the Sherman. And the other one said release. And I know that everybody knows how to play. Sherman has ank. And it just waited to the other people to come and there use ank, but then I got kicked because it didn’t release. That’s OK, people are tarts. World of Warcraft has the biggest amount of tarts. Toxic people flock up, screw ups, whatever. But we usually get along, but because we can’t see each other, that’s OK. That’s what it’s all about. But while I’m sitting here and thinking ohh, 30 minutes. Adjusts looking my screen and actually I’m writing this because I need to wait anyway. But I’m actually in considering shutting down my game, cancel my subscription and say Blizzard. It’s been a good run 20 years and all the other games 30 years. But. No, more. You have taken this game farther than any one could imagine. It is cool, it’s fun. But Oh my God, sometimes you make the biggest mistakes in the whole world. That’s not funny. So maybe this is my time to sign off. I cannot live with this. I’m 44 years old, I’ve played Blizzard games since I could walk. But I don’t think this is for me anymore. So maybe it’s time to stop. I’m getting toxic too right now so. Maybe it was the last you have seen of my money And I know I’m just a single little person. Who has no power to move with this big company of yours. But still, I think you need my opinion. And I can see that this issue has been. More than three years. So it’s not something you don’t know about. It’s just something that you don’t care about. And that tells me you don’t listen to the games anymore at all. And that is sad.
I paragraphed your text with ChatGPT for easier reading (It could be wrong, sorry!):
The forum post titled “Deserter from getting kicked from almost everything” discusses an issue where players in World of Warcraft are frequently receiving the “Deserter” debuff after being kicked from dungeons, raids, or group content. The player expresses frustration over how easily they can be kicked from groups for minor reasons, such as connectivity issues, misunderstandings, or even simply being a less experienced player.
The player argues that the current system is punitive and unfair, as it penalizes them with a significant time lockout, preventing them from joining new groups for a period. They suggest that the system should be reworked to prevent players from being penalized for actions beyond their control, such as network problems, and to allow more leniency or context for why someone might be kicked.
The post also reflects a broader concern that the penalty system in WoW might discourage players from engaging in group content, as it can feel discouraging to be penalized frequently, especially if the player believes the kicks are unjustified.
In summary, the player is calling for changes to the deserter penalty system, to make it more fair and less punitive for players who are kicked from groups for reasons outside of their control.
What is your suggestion about it?
I don’t think this is correct, if you’ve played this game for 20 years you would know that when LFG was introduced at a certain point we came to the issue of having tanks and healers hold the groups hostage and making demands. Blizzard then tried to address this issue through several means which the deserter debuff was one of the final iterations.
Proposals so far include but not limited to:
- “Just remove it” The darkest times will come back again
- “Reduced cooldowns stacking upwards” so that if you aren’t kicked often, it starts with a minor debuff.
- “Reduced cooldowns, stacking downwards” so if you’re in a “good” party, then when they surprisepikachu kick you at the end the cooldown is lower.
- “Warning before Debuff” - When you get removed from dungeon you get a Warning but allows you to requeue, if you get kicked again you get debuffed on subsequent leaves.
- “Add reporting for kicking” - This is akin FF where they investigate if someone is really, really using votekick so often and gets reported for it that often as well. WoW used to do this.
If you have a proper suggestion, you may submit it through the ingame feedback box. I also would like to know to see if the suggestion can be improved making it into a better experience for everyone involved.
One of my character was kicked from heroic Siege because i didn’t had the damage they wanted,as long as i was not afk and not auto-attacking why kick people out of dung, there is no suggestion for this toxic players.
Another one in timewalking Dungeon tank are pulling like crazy they don’t care if they leave trash behind, they running to the end of dung and if you dye on trash and you are not at boss already, you get a kick, surely not a ress wich was my case to happen and you know what is worse: they won’t even tell you anything ,you just see you are kicked from dung while the fault is not even yours.I reported those who kicked me but i doubt they will get punish.Suggestion:Make tww dungeon harder or include boots players,or remove the kicking button unless you are afk, offline.
I dont agree with how the deseter buff is given to everyone who is kicked.
And I would not have kicked you in your shaman example.
But man if others are running why would you not release with them and run back, instead you wasted your ankh CD.
I assume it was in pretty low level content but “everybody who know how to play” would assume you are afk or waiting for healer to come back and res you instead of running, because noone uses Ankh CD like that.
“Everybody who knows how to play” would use ankh if they died mid combat when its safe to do so to continue the fight (at least for lower content, though there can be other ok uses like wipe recovery in some scenraios).
Groups are empowered to manage their own members through the vote-kick system. If the majority of the group feels a player should be removed, they can initiate a vote-kick to remove them. The system is entirely under the control of our players. Players may choose to remove any other player from the group for any reason, provided the vote to kick passes.
They will not get punished for using VTK. If they harassed you otherwise e.g. text you may report them for that.
They would just occassionally hit once and then return to AFK again (we’ve seen this in another variation) or worse, keep pulling to wipe to prevent AFK/Force hostage.
Do we really need Deserter Debuff anymore?
Back when running Heroics through LFD was the primary form of endgame engagement it may have made some sense to discourage players from leaving unpopular instances.
But today we various forms of grouped content and M+ is probably the primary form of dungeoneering. Leavers are only going to leave when they feel the run is not going to be successful, by this stage they aren’t getting the debuff or won’t care about it as it’s probably preferable to do a unfruitful run.
We have Follower dungeons and Community groups for doing dungeons. Players aren’t forced into Heroics for quests or gear any more.
dude, I love chatGPT. been using it a lot for DnD to help with description scenes
Kind of funny when leavers were an issue in dungeons where people were farming specific drops in this expansion to the point they made the full deserter buff kick in, even after a boss is killed. The change was made after many complaints by players.
So yes it’s needed.
Did that work?
I suspect not. If players didn’t get their drop (or if they did) then they’d leave anyhow. Spent 30 mins doing other stuff or go to an alt.
If players are doing an instance for a specific reason then they’re going to leave when that reason is no longer relevant.
In the past when players started leaving after a quest item dropped they added a requirement to kill last boss too. Then they repeated the same mistake and implemented the same fix about 3 more times after that.
It seems to me judging from the forums that Deserter Debuff only really hits one group of players, those kicked for tanking too fast or too slowly or for low dps or silly transmog or whatever silly reason is given.
Saneko doing the lords work. Seriously lol
I got kicked when I called out afker at dungeon entrance. Maybe afker himself just trolled with vote kick dunno.
Second kick was when I typed /fart
Third funny kick was when I took piece of wanted gear
Yeah… This system is kinda… Interesting
Yes I think it worked, there is no longer a workaround to abandon groups after a boss kill.
Are fewer players leaving groups then?
Not sure how we verify this. Anecodotilly I guess. Haven’t seen many posts complaining about leavers in non M+ dungeons so maybe it is working.
The people who felt they were unjustly removed weren’t going to benefit from this change.
However that doesn’t change that deserter serves a purpose.
I last played start of BFA and I have not been kicked from single piece of content in TWW yet. U have to go purposefully afk or something for that to happen.
What is sad is that you can’t learn to use paragraphs,
Just
some
space
between
sentances.
Wall of Text crits you for 9999 damage. (9998 Overkill!)
I understand it’s needed in some cases, but not everywhere:
My example: I heal 250K on a normal dungeon while levelling. The dps (Rogue - Mage) do no interrupts, use no defensives, do 70k damage and get oneshoted. They blame me and kick me for not healing and i get a deserter buff.
So I’m punished for someone that doesn’t now how to play his class and is maybe learning and then can just kick someone, no that is not fair sorry.
Kind regards
I love this
I never understand these threads… Okay yeah it is annoying to get kicked from a dungeon for “no reason”… But if it really happens that often, that you have to make a thread about it and “threatining” with cancelling your sub, maybe you should look in the mirror and ask yourself why you’re getting kicked so often from different LFG groups?
Like in the given example, I 100% understand the reason to kick. You may not, because you’re only looking at it from your perspective. But the amount of times, I’ve seen people just sitting afk dead while waiting for me as healer to run through the whole dungeon and then going “Ress pls” is annoying… Sometimes its a class with a ress themselves with high mobility, like a druid… or ironoically enough a shaman… So why not utilize this, and ress your team?
I don’t vote kick those people, but I 100% understand the annoyance of having someone just wait for a ress instead of running with the team.
If you had planned to use Ankh when they arrived, you could’ve said so when they wrote “release” ? Why sit in silence and then go surprised pikachu face when they didn’t read your mind of wanting to waste one of your biggest boss utility CDs on a random ress?
And honestly, sentences like these:
Really makes me think you’re the toxic one in your groups. “Everyone else is toxic. Everyone knows how to play this game, so they should realize what I wanted to do?? Why do I get punished for others toxicity?”
