I guess I should say thank you to the OP.
This discussion will make it more likely we’ll get dedicated soul of iron servers.
Nice topic. I’ll grief hardcore Player on both factions. Will be a lot of fun
After what I experienced as a HC player on HW yesterday I’m not sure dedicated HC servers are that great an idea.
HC players die. All. the. time. Making for very full starting zones. And with those crazy (insert expletives here) dynamic respawn rates implemented by ActiBli$$ in order to “help out” the overstuffed servers, this will lead to even more death by respawn.
Look, hardcore players play hardcore because they are different than soft core players. Soft core players are not playing HC because they don’t want to loose their character. A Hardcore player pretty much knows he will lose characters and is fine with it, otherwise he would also be a soft core player. A SC character would not be worth a lot in the eyes of a hc player.
So a pure hc server sounds great because there will be a very different dynamic. Most endgame stuff would probably be uncleared and the focus is more on the open world. Even pure hc pvp realm sound interesting. Imagine fighting for life and death! ^^
hc pvp realm would end up being one sided rather quickly. First big battle will be the end of it. The winner will never let the losing side recover.
it simply doesn’t work.
So in other words, they work.
The life cycle of these seasonal realms is short anyway so i don’t see the problem of a one-sided situation. It happens with every hc pvp mmorpg, over the long run there will be only one faction but with seasonal resets this could be fun.
It might be an interesting experiment. I think if there was server-wide organisation and initial faction population balance you could maybe keep some sort of parity for a while with clear policing of zones. But yeah. If one faction can get a relatively trivial number more high level players, they can just waltz through the 20-30 zones and cull anyone from getting higher with near impunity. Flash forward a week and its all over.
Apart from the time frame - I would not give it a week, maybe 3 days - I totally agree. The faction loosing the first big battle would never recuperate again.
a thought…
How far can you level up as Horde in the barrens alone? I just realized it’s pretty far if you really want to. SFK until 30. high enough to enter RFK or SMGY. Run RFK and SM until you can do RFD. RFD to 50 maybe. at least close to it.
As a group of 50s you aren’t totally defenceless
Alliance is not so lucky and therefor wouldn’t stand much of a chance if you ask me.
You do realise that there are other ways to kill people than to kill then in pvp? I’m eagerly awaiting the first video of someone leveling a HC character and doing a group dungeon/raid with other players with the sole intention of wiping their group. There certainly are classic players degenerate enough to do it.
Yeah. In extremis I think you could get to level 33 in the Barrens - although its going to get a bit crowded. But as you say, plenty of dungeons are now available that could push you through to 50.
It would be somewhat miserable - but if you farmed the end of Gnomeregan I think Alliance players could scrape up to 40. Uldaman isn’t a million miles away from safe territory - but fairly easy for horde to interdict if they have a bunch of 50+ characters.
Really though this is acting a bit like a hardcore server where your character gets deleted. Since that isn’t what happens, it would be kind of different.
Yeah all good and fine. The original Hardcore - IronMan Challenge - did not allow groups and dungeons. Only questing and mob killing.
That’s why u go with 4 good friends you know for years and pump dungeons all day until 60.
And reset with a alt so you don’t have to go outside
Amazing idea, I’m gonna level a hunter and try my best to bait them to attack my pet so I can kill them. Thank OP
You might be better off training a bunch of mobs into them, then feign death, or just ride off. It’s always fun when someone pulls too much by accident and runs off to reset them, just to have the mobs turn to you since you were fighting similar mobs 20 yards away from the path the other player ran.
There will be griefing attempts, especially for streamers, but that’s how it is. In a perfect world it would be punishable by a 7 day ban or something, but it’s blizzard.
This has to be bait, imagine thinking it should be punishable
