I see a lot of people complaining about PvP servers right now and the constant ganking going on. I also see a lot of people replying to them saying “what’d you expect from a PvP server”.
I personally am really frustrated about the current situation. I love a nice mix of PvP and PvE. Back in Vanilla I managed to get my feral druid to rank 13 (which was no easy thing in terms of time-management), ganked loads in Silithus and cleared 50% of Naxxramas on a side. I was a very active player that loved the world pvp aspect of the game.
But the big difference there was that servers were less populated. I was on a full PvP server but it was rare to ever end up in a 1v3+ fight. If I was roaming around looking for ganks it was always 1v1 or 1v2, and sometimes 1v3. And the amount of time it took to find some opponents was pretty big. But this was ofc, during a later phase.
When I played in actual P2 there were sometimes raids going on in Barrens and a constant one in Tarren Mill/Southshote. That was totally fine, we could avoid those areas. But apart from that there weren’t enough players to cover the entire zone by ganking.
The game right now is just really unplayable for anyone that wants to level up an alt. The amount of pvp is far out of control and the one big reason for it is the server population being much higher than it used to be in Vanilla.
The ‘pvp server’ balance was made for smaller servers. I think there’s only one thing left to do and that’s to accept Classic is NOT going to be like Vanilla, and adapt quickly. I’d open up WSG/AV already before P3, just like blizzard did with DM, and keep a close look on how that develops.
Right now there’s just people ‘farming’ players that don’t want to compete at all. Leveling a 50+ alt is just horrible. Today in an hour of ‘questing’ in Un’Goro Crater I died 17 times (by lvl 60 gankers) and finished only 2 quests. And I’m a Horde player on a server with 5% more Horde than Alliance.
In the end your faction doesn’t matter. Servers are just overcrowded for this kind of a PvP system. It’s never possible to do a fair 1v1, or 1v2. You just constantly see people roaming around looking for kills. Ruining the game for me.
I hope blizzard comes with something, cus I’m freaking addicted to this game. But I’m already considering quitting and trying to get a grip on my addiction. The game is about to fail its expectations with this new pvp change… I’m about to give up on it because this is no way how it used to be in Vanilla. It’s just horrible right now.

retail mentality, my dude. retail.
maybe these suckers should take a hint.
Not really.
I quit retail several years ago.
I’m not a bad player or anything. I like pvp and actually usually win. But right now there’s too many people. It’s never actual ‘pvp’, its just raids zerging. I can get that it’s fun to some people, but right now it’s blocking any other way of playing this game.
Not sure what you’re on about the ‘retail mentality’ thing.
I’m totally fine with people ganking me once in a while. But since the servers are so highly populated (compared to Vanilla) there’s just too many people trying to ‘tag’ you for some honor points. That’s not pvp to me.
In vanilla you were able to level an alt 1-60 on a pvp server with a decent amount of world pvp/ganks. You’d sometimes log your main to get some revenge out, and that was fine. The situation now is nowhere near how it was in vanilla.

okay so what do you want then.
I’d like battlegrounds to be released earlier to see if that solves the issues a bit. The people ‘farming’ honor will go in the instances areas and world pvp will tune down a little. Not entirely, but I’m sure it can be noticed.
It’s just not great that servers are so big now while the amount of land to play on (azeroth lol) is still the same size. The density of players per m2 is just much bigger now than it used to be.
I think phasing made things better, altough it’s also not a great solution cus people will use it in a wrong way to take an advantage out of it.
My personal and probably VERY unpopulair solution would be to half the amount of players that are allowed to be online at a server. Result will be huge queues, so more people will have to migrate to new servers.
It’s really an unpopulair solution, but the serversize change was just a horrible thing done by blizzard. They’re changing nothing except for one MAJORRRRRR thing in server size that basically means EVERYTHING will be changed because of it.

so you want to kill world pvp
You probably didn’t play in Vanilla did you?
I don’t want to kill world pvp. I just want it to not be all over every zone you can imagine. World pvp used to be in Silithus, Hillsbrad, Barrens, Tanaris and perhaps the Plaguelands as far as I can remember. Un’Goro too cus of the Devilsaurs.
You could avoid it, altough small ganks could still occur. But right not it’s not small ganks.
Back in the days I remember when Orgrimmar got raided it was a big happening, it was cool and we’d defend it or help attack it. Once in a while a city got raided and it was part of world pvp I liked. But right now, like 50 cities/towns are being raided at the same time all over azeroth. You can’t avoid pvp anymore.
I’m not talking about ‘world pvp’ in lvl 60’s trying to find some others. ‘world pvp’ became ‘honor farming by killing as many horde/alliance as you can find in the shortest amount of time possible’…
It became a farming method. And it makes any other playstyle impossible right now.

The joy of playing on a 50/50 server! We have equal amounts of horde and alliance raids running around. Big difference tho, Alliance hunt flightmasters, questers and dungeon grps. While the horde grps hunt these alliance grps.
If the alliance group gets catches by the horde group they quickly whipe and run back too hunting dungeon groups and questers xP And every horde knows this; wPvP will be dead the moment BGs hit, as alliance will never step out of their cities anymore xD
i played wow vanilla (retail) the day it was released… now sure i was a noob back then, but then again, everyone was.
times change, buddy.
Actually agreed with OP 100%.
Saying that this is ok on PvP servers is like saying it’s ok for endgame bosses to spawn in Deadmines cause what did you expect from a PvE server… you got PvE’d.
Leveling to 60 wasn’t hard at all. I was 55 when honor got activated. Just spent some …ahem quality time in BRD and voila! That being said, I’d actually want to be able to do some stuff in the world instead of just joining these PvP zerg raids and ganking lowbies or doing raids/instances.

I know times change. I’m just saying that the changes I’m seeing right now might make me want to quit. And I believe it’s blizzard’s fault because the server population limit is the one big problem that caused this to happen.
I respect some people like this a lot now. But I just don’t, and saying I could’ve expected this on a ‘PvP server’ is a bit harsh, because we both agree times have changed and the way a PvP server works now is completely different from what it used to be 14 years ago.
I kinda got tricked in believing it’d be like 14 years ago. But didn’t think about the server population being so much higher now. It just doesn’t work anymore.
Small ‘guerilla pvp’ like it used to be became raid vs raid pvp, and that’s the kind of pvp I really don’t like at all. I want 1v1 or 1v2, or bg’s like 10v10 or 15v15. That’s the kind of PvP I like.
I don’t like the kind of PvP where it feels like I got a target on my head while all I’m doing is trying to get to level 53 without dying every 2min.
Servers are too crowded, that’s the reason why world pvp doesn’t work.
It’s like trying to play football with 50 vs 50 on a regular football field. You might still like it, but it’s a completely different game.

are you for real man?.. you’re gonna blame blizzard for the opposite’s faction ability to organize better than yours in pvp?
grow up dude.

okay so you don’t like raid vs. raid escalations and just want 1v1’s or 2v2’s?
guess what, retail has that for you in the form of Arena battles.
My faction (horde) is actually dominating most world pvp. But I find it extremely boring to run around and tag some alliance just to get a hit cus they die so extremely fast. That’s no pvp, that’s just farming honor, but it’s not PvP.
Think about what I said. Any kind of sport and put 5 times as many players on the field than what’s normal. You’d have a completely different sport.
And no I’m not on to Arena. Man, I did my fair share of ganking in vanilla. I’m just saying that I want the possibility to AVOID it, just like I give my opponents the possibility to avoid it. Right now it’s everywhere, all the time.
Think about what I’m saying, and stop putting this all on ‘what I want’, the fact is that there’s many more people online on a server at one time then it used to be in vanilla. Wether it’s positive or negative, it’s a big change. And I’m just saying I don’t like that change. I’m not saying I want to play arena, I’m not saying my opponent’s faction can organise itself better. I’m saying I wanted this game to be a bit more like vanilla, but this server population thing is making the difference too big now that world pvp (ahem… honor farming in open world) became such a big thing.
And I like pvp, I really do. But I also like leveling an alt. You can say what you want about pvp and the situation now but you have to agree that with the entrance of honor the leveling of alts became a problem. I all of a sudden lost fun in a huge part of the game for me (leveling alts). Sure, there’s some more pvp options which is fun, but the cost is too high. You just can’t avoid pvp anymore when you aren’t in the mood for it. It’s everywhere, all the time.

No, I don’t.
I also don’t see your point…

you seem awfully sympathetic to the alliance considering you are a horde player, is what i’m saying.
Imagine doing world-pvp in 2019 LUL
