Different servers communi-(cation/-ty)

Im playing on Hellscream eu.

I noticed in the chat someone named [XXXX - Ravencrest] that advertised for his guild.

I asked him if it was possible to join his guild and/or possible to raid/instance together. He said no to both questions.

Then why do I see his chat at all ?
What servers’ players CAN I play together with from eu-Hellscream ?

Aggramar and that’s it. He obviously used the wrong chat channel.

Do you imply that any player on any eu server can write messages in chat on any other eu-server ?

Only ones they are sharded with.

So that still begs the question of why I can see the chat of a char named [XXXX - Ravencrest] when Im playing on Hellscream…

What channel did you see it in? That will hold your answer.

Some are connected realms only and some are shard wide.

I have no clue what “shard wide” means ? I thought it was a typo for “shared”.

Have Blizz written a guide for all this ? Because I assume this relates to more than just chat…

To make zones look fuller Blizzard joined them but not in a good way, that’s sharding. You can only see and talk to people from other realms in a shard, no trading or joining their guild. Some channels stay on your realm others can be seen by anyone in this shard. I think it’s general that all can see in the shard.

When you choose to play the game you are in a Warmode or non Warmode shard. It puts you out in the world with players from any server who have chosen the same game mode. There are no longer PvP and Normal servers. This means that in channels such as ‘general’ some people will have a server name after their character name. They will see the same for you with your name.

Merged realms are different. They are realms that were merged into one but in order to preserve character and guild names they retain their server names at the end of their names. One of the easiest ways to see which realms are merged you can go to https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/ and scroll down to the ALL REALMS section. It shows groupings. I can see that Hellscream is merged with Aggramar - Aggramar / Hellscream

Merges were done to try and boost low populations. They no longer seem to be able to merge realms and many wish they could do more merges.

or go to realmpop.com and choose your realm from the list.

Thanks for the info, my response is that someone needs to send Blizz some men in white coats.

To have chat go beyond boundaries for who you actually can play with is idiotic.

No it isn’t, you are looking at it from one small part of it.

What are the advantages of this as known to you ?

You can play with anyone. Just can only join guild, trade and raid current mythic with people on your servers

Elaborate please ?

Aside from trading, joining a guild, and doing current mythic raid until the top 100 is completed on both factions, you can do everything with everyone from every server

So this is a “phase in” feature that is activated where ?
And what does “top 100 completed on both factions” mean ? “current” ?

Im not sure what you mean by “phase in” but if you meet someone from any server and keep their contact, at any time you can just invite them to a group and go quest together in the world for example, or do battlegrounds, arenas and raids.
You can also join ingame communities wich are basically guilds but without the same-server limitation.

When 100 guilds of Horde and 100 guilds of Alliance achieve mythic raid completion, the restriction is lifted for that raid and people from any servers can group to raid mythic

Do you have any idea why ?
I have difficulty with grasping this “concept”.

Why not lift it in the first place ?
What happens when a guild+1randomPerson not from guild (but from same server) down all bosses in a raid-instance, does that count ?

I cant say for sure. Think its mostly a design choice, they got rid of the old “realm first” achievments and instead created this “famed slayer” title wich is region wide for the top 100. Guess they just see mythic raiding as a guild activity.

It used to be that you needed 80% guilded players for a run to count as a guild run, dunno if that still holds truth
