We used the first Gnome Discord since its start, until about just over a week ago, iirc. A few GMâs/roleplayers got together, talked about how we felt the other Discord wasnt providing what we wanted in terms of Gnome Roleplay, and then decided weâd make our own and quietly build it up before putting it on the forums.
Competition was never the intention of me, Oz, the GM of Arclight, or the GM of GAC. We just wanted a Gnome RP discord that provided what we felt we needed. And which the people, who already left the other discord, would feel happy about going to. It had nothing to do with e-power/control. We just wanted a Gnome Discord that fulfilled our desires/needs for a Gnome Discord. And so far? It has worked. We now have a Gnome Discord of our own, and weâre perfectly content to just sit in it and post stuff about Gnomes.
Still, I think what Oz said while not intended as harmfull, was unwarranted. When we talked of posting this forum thread, we wanted to avoid any clashes/confrontations, and just quietly put ourselves out there. Just a quick clean split, without any fuss. And people themselves can decide which they prefer. Either both discords stick around, or one just shuts down to inactivity. Either way works.

If thereâs one community to start with and a group of people in that community donât like how itâs being handled, whatâs wrong with those people choosing to leave that community and create their own community, which they seek to handle in a different fashion?
That seems like the smartest course of action to me. Itâs better than them trying to operate as a part of a community that they donât like.

At the time, I just shrugged it off as Peonposting. In hindsight, that was a mistake.
Had it not been the alt of one of the gmâs who wasnât given mod rights, and then made their own discord. It might have just passed as âpeonpostingâ

They mentioned disliking the lenient moderation style early on in the thread. Easiest way to go about changing a style of moderation that you dislike is to talk about it with the moderator and try to change their mind. If that doesnât work, then try and become a moderator yourself so that the community handled more according to your liking. If thatâs denied, then youâre left with two choices: Remain in a community that you dislike the moderation of and that youâre unable to change the moderation of, or start your own community.

I intend to create a third discord where members of the other two Gnome discords can talk on neutral ground whilst I quote Taran Zhu lines from War Crimes. Series of special emojis dedicated to myself to be confirmed at a later date.
Gunna take this community to new lows.

I dont know anything about anyone asking for mod positions, except myself. Which I did a day or two after the Discord went up, and I didnt see any other mods. I offered to help, because I like gnomes, and I thought I could help. I didnt get the position, so I just shrugged it off and went on my way.
The decision to make the new discord was independent from that.
I realize it does make it look like I had a secondary motive. So I just transferred ownership of the server to Quizley.
