Discussion: Villain RP

People have that? I dunno, I never really got any satisfaction out of winning a writing hobby.

Neither do i however, alot here do so they can write on their lil page they caught the big boo-boo.
But then again the definition of the ‘win’ can differ per person.
One prefers the catching of the villian.
One prefers the RP being good.
And someone else prefers being the saboteur and turn the hero vs. villain event into a kobold beauty pageant.

People will agree with that, until they find their character on the losing side.
But i guess its just where people lay their focus.

I’ll get you next time, GGadget.

Welp since its 1am on Friday. I think I’m gonna post the next discussion thread.

Whats it gonna be about?

To add my two cents to this thread, I feel like villains are best portrayed when they are given appropriate and proper depth. When people make villains of any kinds to just “be evil” and to do “evil things” without giving a chance to show any humanity, any traits they have that are good, they lack any form of sympathising traits. Not that we should show any sympathies to a villain, but doing such makes them more real. After all, nobody is ever inherently or truly bad or evil. They conduct evil acts out of something that has happened to them, out of development having gone that way. Sometimes they even do it accidentally or from a lack of care. People can do bad acts without being a bad person. The best ways in which these are shown are when a villain does good deeds. Because at the end of the day, unless they’re absolutely insane from fel and have no other feasible or logical way of being good, they would still have a shred of humanity left in them. I live for this realistic representation of a ‘bad guy’ and wish more would do it.

Hourglass figure? Perfect female…on AD?! Oh… no…

The very true bit about consequences and being willing to be taken down, -but-:

Many players, in some comments here as well, see consequences as the villainous party being 100% destroyed and ground into pieces never to have a chance of anything again. Game over. But consequences and takedowns can be a lot of things. We need to accept the possibilities of that as well.

I think many of the “heroes” fail to realize that even in stories where villains lose, they often score victories. Darth Vader kills Obi Wan, Empire destroys rebels at Hoth, Han gets frozen, Boromir dies, Saruman ravages Rohan, Osgiliath is taken, Voldemort returns, Dumbledore dies and so on.

Even the stories that are about heroes beating the villains, those villains get to score some wins. If they don´t, they become Team Rocket, threathening the heroes, yet losing every episode, escaping the heroes. And if they don´t escape but rather die, they are pretty much pointless, basically the “big bad guy who gets beaten by the hero at the beginning of the movie to show how great the hero is”.

They become immortal physic defying technopaths that are actually insanely strong vs everything except a few kids?

Should look into the darker (proper) side of the Rocket gang cause that gets kinda dark when you look away from the trio of idiots.

There is actually an unreleased set of episodes where the trio would engage in gang war with another team.

And the best stuff is when Bashou and Buson kick the kid’s bums using a Steelix. I love the Rocket gang but damn, the main trio are horribly boring and stupid.

Threads are a remarkable business but why don’t you make RP happen instead? :ok_hand:

Also I agree with Dorlas 100%

I leave the makings to others like you. Besides not many people are interested in the stuff I would present and offer.

Just popping in to say that Macabre does indeed allow DKs in its ranks.

Anyway, my opinion on this is that you ought to play with someone before drawing judgments and conclusions about them.

I’ve had a lot of people calling me a FISH player because they had heard rumors about me portrayed by people who did not like what my character did to them IC, only to have them reconsider and apologise once they actually took the time to play with me. The fact that I role-play a DK also does not help with the constant stigma that follows that particular class like a bad smell (get it?).

In any event, playing a villain — a good villain, mind you — isn’t easy. I do not claim to be the best, never have, but I think my character has developed enough throughout the years to become a properly constructed “villain”. Of course, he doesn’t see himself in that way, because of course he doesn’t, but that’s the whole point I believe.

Also, just for the record, Death Knights are undoubtedly strong and extremely dangerous, even more so if they’re veterans like my character, but even so I try my best to play fair during fights. If someone surprises my character and knows what they’re doing, I’ll let them beat me up bad.

What I won’t do is let someone smack my character around like a 5$ cardboard cutout of Bolvar simply because they feel like “they should win, since they’re the hero.” If you want to fight me, know what you’re signing up for. I’m tired of people whining and complaining that they’re not capable of scratching my armored and experienced DK with a dagger, or that he won’t go down when they throw a pebble at him.

Yes, that happened.
