It’s on sale via steam and seems quite cool, but has relatively low player base. Did you play it and how does it compare to wow for you? Thank you and merry christmas!
I played it, and it has some good parts. Found it a decent game, but combat was kinda meh. I didn’t get into its end-game (our twins were just born at the time), and the game outside of that was rather boring.
I ended up coming back to WoW, and not really feeling like playing ESO again.
why compare them at all?, appreciate things on their merits or leave them alone, nothing can ever be perfect, ESO is an outstanding game, sometimes WoW is too.
also i wouldn’t say it has a relatively low players base, you will rarely see an empty world, you will never have trouble getting help for content even if you aren’t in a guild, the guild i am in is never short of active players and very helpful.
as far as ‘easy’ goes, that’s only true once you understand the gear and mechanics, but guess what…so is every game.m the fact that so much can be soloed is a good thing imo, BUT that’s not to say there is no challenge in the game, as with most MMO’s, there is something for you nerdy number crunchers too…
brace for incoming wave of negativity…
Gameplay’s fun and decent, allows you to mix’n’match your playstyle.
endgame dungeons are pretty fun but very meta-driven.
Open world gameplay is pathetically easy, easier than WoW even.
Story lacks any impact or seriousness because of how easy everything is. I don’t think a “Big Bad Antagonist” should be able to die just by you autoattacking him.
So in short: It’s good for the people who have never ever played anything other than Bejeweled.
Yes I tried it but have up for a few reasons
-
at the end of the faction quest campaign all you get is the option to change to another faction and play that campaign from the start so you mash through trivial content at max level - ugh !
-
no endgame
-
many MANY bots wrecking some questing and farming areas
I guess it has been worked on now seeing the expac list but I really cannot be bothered to start again
It’s the best by a money standpoint, I bought for 5€, you also get the Morrowind expansion
And housing has lots of customization.
I played it. Unfortunately it feels like you’re swing a wet towel as a sword. Unfortunately
I might have switched to it were it not for the combat music.
Like… it’s a major issue. I do not for the life of me understand why it is still impossible to avoid having the music broken up and replaced by the same generic drumbeat hundreds of times a session.
I also don’t like the scaling system.
Quiet truly ESO would be a great game without an O and being just a single player game, every Elder Scrolls fan wishes for.
But here we are.
Brad Derrick’s soundtrack is just amazing, easily the equal of Jeremy Soule. i just turn the in game music off and play the soundtrack on YT, don’t always like BGM while i’m playing games anyway
LOVE this piece, has a real christmassy feel to it
I played it for a while. Ok casual game with a beautiful world design and a lot of cool stories. Combat is one of the worst I’ve seen. The game does not offer anything prestigious, there is no competition. The dungeons are ok but nothing compared to wow. It has a good housing system.
Imo the game is worth purely because of the stories and the world itself, but don’t expect anything spectacular.
Absolutely true, which only makes this design all the more tragic.
I wish, I desperately wish that they would fix this. It is literally one of the only reasons I’m still playing Skyrim and Morrowind; the combat music sounds OK and even if it didn’t I can kill it.
Not a fan of unlocking skills Rather wish like wow we had all skill already unlocked Or given by a talent tree
If you’re using the steam DB charts as source for this claim then don’t forget they are widely inaccurate as people tend to use ESO’s launcher instead.
It’s less popular than WoW or FF afaik but I don’t think we have any reliable playercount for ESO.
I played it as if it was Skyrim 2.0, so basically as a solo player running through world content, leveling professions and doing a lot of exploration.
If that’s your thing then you should have a pretty good experience for at least a month or two. The base game Includes dozens of zones and the sub includes both an infinite & ACC wide reagent bank and all previous expansions.
One thing I really appreciated is how factions can unlock a set of active and passive skills beyond the ones tied to your class, Armor and weapon.
For instance my first character was the ESO equivalent of a sub rogue, with double daggers, medium Armor, the dark brotherhood and vampires skills and set bonuses aimed around stealth.
It was far from viable but I loved the fantasy.
While the gameplay is very different from WoW’s I loved how movements and reading the animations can help you dodge blows unlike the “No matter what you do the mob will AA you a dozen time over the course of the fight, good luck” design in WoW.
Overall it’s a nice experience imo. Haven’t played in a few years now but it’s definitely worth the box price. That said the sheer convenience of the infinite bank almost make the sub feel mandatory if you want to farm professions.
No, I checked some videos and just “Nope, that combat system SUCKS”.
very less people play it through steam .most people buy it from official store and the population is nowhere near lower .you will find abundance of people in game especially on eu servers of eso on pc.
Wow this is really cool to know. I’ll pick it up, all to date expansions for €26 excluding some ‘crown store’ dlc. Should give plenty of playtime. I can’t see myself subbing to eso plus, but who knows. Is it much of a hassle to not have it? I’m not a real crafter (I always take herb/ mining in wow to spam at AH and move on). Is crafting mandatory to gear up/ progress?
Thank you for all replies, merry xmas!
I really like how the world looks and the leveling. But the combat is not the best.
Afaik you have a week left before the end of the discount, so I’d suggest you try the base game first before buying the expansions. In the worst case scenario you will save 20€.
But yeah there are at least 7 landmasses (we’re usually talking about one zone each, not continents like WOW) added by expansions, multiple faction skills, tons of storylines and 2 classes etc. That’s well worth the price imo but for all I know you perhaps won’t stand the gameplay and just leave after a few hours.
If you already have the expansions then the value proposition falls a lot.
Certainly not but it’s a really nice feature imo.
There are 3 things to consider :
- 1/ The tmog : Items appearances are based on their origin. A crafter may destroy the item & get a component allowing him to give that style to an item he crafts & thus have a unified set.
- 2/ The stat : In the same way gems give a specific stat to your items. You won’t necessarily find the item you need with the stat you want and the enchantment you want.
- 3/ There are set bonuses which are only available from open world crafting stations. They are not the best sets and you’ll find much better gear from serious content but that’s kinda a crafter exclusive thing.
You’ll tend to find plenty of loot around your level as you quest through the zones. Getting professions up to a decent level take a lot of investment, both in term of gold, time and perk points.
And your usual content will also reward good quality gear, altho RNG may not always give you the piece you want. But crafting is certainly not mandatory, merely useful.
For instance if you want a legendary sword at ilevel X with stat Y and perk Z then you’ll most likely have to farm for a while to get the exact combination you want. You’ll get plenty of good items along the way too but perhaps not that specific one.
Meanwhile with crafting you will spend a while preparing for it and have to destroy a ton of items to earn the right mats but you’ll be able to get the item you seek with little to no rng
Oh yeah and as a side note : You don’t really have to depend on your items appearances. There are plenty of cosmetics which will overwrite their appearances allowing you to look like a specific NPC or armor set while equipping whatever gear you come across.
You’re welcome, Merry Christmas
Still thinking about it. Got many gaming projects on my mind and list.
Oblivion I only completed twice. Skyrim however…maybe 6 times. And still looking forward to my 7th time
