so i have been following this whole addon situation for midnight and the restrictions and how blizzard is taking a full blown defence againts addons , now personally i have 0 issues with that infact i am supporting the idea somewhat to some extent but here is the real issue :
the way they are doing things both in terms of restricting addons and simplifying classes are half measures ( as usuall thats how always blizz does things half completed sloppy ) and what this ends up doing for the game is actually a situation that is completely intalorable , i will give you an example of what i mean
for example they say that they wanna make sure they have enough control over addons to an extent where you dont need a weakaura just about anything the second you load into any encounter, but to do that they are gonna have to break some other stuff that will improve the quality of gameplay for players significantly addons like plater / quartz / omnicd / cd manager and many other good ones will also start getting cleaved now that would not be a problem on its own ! HOWEVER ! this is where the real problem starts
they did all these things in hope of simplifying the game on the other side for example reducing the button bloating situation with every class , designing encounters that dont require you to have 20 diff weakauras and so on and so forth … but the real issue is when you log into midnight alpha there are so many classes that still have crazy buffs that need to be tracked so many buttons that need to be pressed at a very specific time and …
for example the new Vdh anahilator has like 5 different buffs that you need to track and like 20 buffs in totall which most of them are irrelavant and you cant choose which one of those buffs you want to track and which ones you want to ignore and in which order etc , before addon restrictions a weakaura would simply do all of those things without a problem but now you cant do anything ! and as i mentioned above blizzard has a pretty golden reputation for delivering undercooked half measured food over and over again so base on history you can 100% assume that the encounters they design will require many weakauras ( which you cant have anymore btw ! ) and your class will require you to track multiple buffs that again you can choose which one you want to track and which to block and so on and so forth …
so basically the endgame here is the same situation in SL with covenants where the community made it clear that its a bad idea and you kept pushing and you got slapped in the wrist ! except this time the playerbase and your sub numbers are down so bad that you might actually face server deplettion and potential realm shutdowns , its gonna get bad you can back of right now … let addons live or if you gonna restrict them start working around only restricting Weakauras in encounters and allowing players to do personal customization ! figure it out because if you dont your game will die this time no joke , you might have gotten away for years by making gigantic dumb mistakes but this one will blow the game up for good .
I agree with them pulling addons how they have. If we need addons to play the game then blizzard has failed as a game designer and the game probably deserves to die.
I have deleted so many addons since 11.2.5 including WAs and my game is running so much faster and performing way better.
Yep yep … that is exactly what everyone told them to do and thats exactly what they should have done ! these people have been working on these addons for years of not decades they have experience and the best part is ! they are CHEAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
you dont have to pay them X amount of dollars and sign up a crazy contract just cause they went to some university , its crazy the level of Arrogancy and ego blizzard heads like ion have , many people from the community told them specifically that you wanna fight addons ? Fine Hireeeeeeeeeeee these guys , hire them they will operate under what ever restrictions you want and that way you get to keep the game civil while taking out what ever you feel like its to much for the game .
but no what do they do ? they get rid of addons make everything a private aura and now they have like what 5-6 months max and a team of god knows if they even reach 20 ppl to do the work that more than 100 people have done in decades i mean honestly its so stupid even from a baseline level to even think that these guys are gonna come up with some replinished clean job out of it in that timeframe regardless of how good they are which we know for a fact they are not good at all .
yeah this right here is kinda like the perfect depection of what every player will respond to blizzard when they are about to react to these changes .
as much as i like to be positive and give them credit for taking first steps , which i will admit they are pretty good for baby steps to get the engine going its farrrrrrrrrrr from complete like its not even close , we still need buff blacklist option nameplate adjustments colors size castbar etc we need alot … alot
and im 99.9% sure they will fail to deliver all of those without the help of people who created them in the first place , specially in that short of a time frame
With last patch, I’ve deleted all my addons except for Details (which will come as in game version) and TitanPanel (feels weird not to have coorinates or a gold overview of all my chars.
I usually used Grid2 to heal, now had to actually take a look at the raid frames the game itself already offered - and noticed it does all I used the addon for; so, I’m already set up for Midnight.
Many of the folks now panicing they suddenly won’t be able to play the game anymore will just have to do the same - take an actual look at what’s already in game, and then breathe… no one needs to track all buffs and debuffs, just play!
It will be fine even if you no longer play fully optimal. Focus a little more and actually have your mind on the game and your performance goes up more than by having your addons optimally set up.
I still have Titan panel but its the bog standard version, I didnt download all the extras. Mine still has a gold counter and co ords though so not sure whats up with yours.

Yeah, that was my point - that and Details are the only addons I currently still have… well, and Narcissus, but I don’t really count that, because I only use it at times when I want nice pics of my chars… so not something I actually use to play the game.
yeah if there was no buffs or debuffs to track this would be true , but sadly this is just a false statement …
i mean if your just a casual gamer i get it , who cares hopp in press your 1234 hopp off call it a day what ever who cares , but for anyone who i would say is even considering to play at vey medium level end game content like aotc or doing some midrange keys you will still need to have a good understanding of what buffs and what debuffs you have , atleast on to some extent .
and buffs and debuffs are not all that addons cover , they cover so many other things that are vital such as nameplates , specially abilities in certain encounters that will add to your throughput , potential danger for tanks as a heads up and calls on certain encounter that could be deadly , healers have an entirely different game to play with default ui and everything there , certain debuff tracking for dispells raid sizes … the list is endless friendo
you cannot play this game without addons and be like oh its fine they aint doing much anyway … like i said i would be happy and have no problem if they just got rid of all the buffs and procs and certain debuffs etc and made it simpler but if anything alpha has thought us so far is that not only those buffs and debuffs are not going away infact there will be even more of them so … yeah idk what your talking about with this whole it will be ok vibe
Already announced they will improve the ones in game. I’m sure those will be fine. Just wait and see - and if they aren’t, they will improve them.
Because it will be. I’ve played this game for over 15 years with basically no addons and still did my AOTC and M+ achievements - and I don’t consider myself a good player; so I fully trust all the actually good players to still be able to play the game without addons, while the base game will become easier for all those who didn’t use addons in the first place, which is the vast mayority of players.
I don’t know what’s up with all the doomsayers. We’ve been through several cycles of pruning and UI changes, and it always ended up well.
and thats the problem , blizzard usually takes an entire season to fix something or add something that the community asks for if not an entire expansion in some cases … so while we are in the waiting room we will also suffer
yeah they are gonna be able to play the game , everyones gonna be able to play the game … idk what do you even mean by that comment , its just the quality of life and the experience is gonna be misserable , thats the issue ppl wont magically get disabled if addons turn of .
idk what you are talking about here either , every time they added something new to the game they broke a bunch of things and took weeks to fix it , end of SL we had bugged out UI for like weeks , the readycheck bar was gone , most addons broke completely , during DF they also did something that resulted in some FPS lag bugs and im sure in TWW they also did something that messed up ppls ui although i skipped this expansion almost entirely ( even right now as they released legion remix we have had a bunch of new bugs and lag spikes and server issues thats just the very recent new thing they added and it resulted in a disaster )
so everything you are saying is like completely reversed , from my experience atleast anyway . like its never been fine … if anything ppl most of the time ask blizzard to stop trying to make ui changes because each time they do they break something along the way and i dont see how this time could be any different infact we are already seeing some weird stuff in alpha and i have no doubt that it will only get worse as we progress towards the new raid and seasonal dungeons etc , endgame content in general
i think it will do both , it will bring some back and toss some out .
the real question is whats the math behind it , which group outnumber the other group what are the pros and cons etc … i dont think its gonna be good overall but time will tell
So far the addons that Blizzard have replicated successfully have been GearScore and RaiderIO. And whit those they just stuck a bunch of random numbers on stuff and called it a day. But when it comes to the more complicated addons like UI customizers, CD trackers and rotation helpers (should not have been a thing), they fell flat on their face. Idk where all this good faith in them has come all of a sudden regarding stuff like DBM, WA, Platter etc. Is it just this weird notion of “Oh now without addons the players that are ahead of me will be just as stuck as I am”?
I feel like we need better click casting upto now. The one in game doesn’t work with the buttons on the side of my mmo mouse. I’m hoping clique survives the cull.
Let’s hope blizzard can do some good things I’m going into it glass half full mentality and not half empty xD
