A real RPG to me would be the elders scrolls games, particularly Morrowind. I feel like it’s very easy to roleplay a certain character, with a certain build / personality, etc. I don’t really know what I would consider WoW, I guess you can RP if you get into it, but I wouldn’t and don’t know what it’s like.
I do not consider it an RPG.
Because I want to roleplay as a Mage that has purchased full Ny’alotha Mythic Raid Gear from some shop in Stormwind for a few gold each piece. But since I can’t do that how can it be a Role-playing Game?
Thats propably becouse such options become menaingless right after you create your character. Nobady plays game zoomed in his face so you can see all those featureas.
Thats not role playing.
Surely it is? Playing the role of someone who purchases their gear from shops in a city? Then uses the gear to fight wolves in the forests surrounding Stormwind?
No it isnt. Rules of the world you play in are not set by player. You role play character withing rules of world.
I can’t say it aint MMORPG, but it is way less than what Classic is. These days retail feels more like Instance or match making game, where you choose your hero and then do a match with that hero. After that you log off and later come back, and maybe choose different hero.
The main problem in WoW is the whole mix of these different elements, resulting in people thinking that the ‘real wow’ is the bits that they personally like.
The main content in WoW is whatever the developers work on primarily.
It’s pretty clear that they work on the zones on the quests a great deal. it is main content of the game, or they wouldn’t do it.
I don’t know how much work they put into arenas, etc. because I just don’t do that stuff. if those things were the main game, the developers would spend less time and care on the bits that I like and I wouldn’t be here.
if that was true, then every single game would be an RPG. evidently,. that is not the case. the term exists to define a specific type of game as opposed to the other types. RPG is based in the numbers. it comes from D&D. the game is determined by a collection of stats that define a character and their abilities.
it used to be played with dice of course, but now the dice are replaced with RNG. this is the core of what an RPG is.
no.
this is called :- you’ve finished the game, now here is some busy work to keep you subscribed.
That’s why it’s called ‘endgame’.
You should have continued reading and you would realise that was NOT the only criteria I mentioned.
If you’re going to quote me then please have the decency to quote the whole thing and not take it out of context.
Here it is in case you can’t find it.
I read it all thanks.
no need to downtalk me and no need to be so spiky.
RPG is about the stats. your description didn’t cover that, along with a number of other posters here.
take it easy, I’m not defaming your character or anything, just talking about the subject of what an RPG is.
Blizzard are trying to make it more RPG in Shadowlands because people complained it wasn’t RPG enough.
But now people are complaining about the RPG elements and want them removed.
What did you think
meant ? The amount of bananas I had in my inventory ?
THAT bit covers the numbers and the stats.
Maybe you should read it all again and this time make an attempt at understanding it.
tbh does it matter?
I understood it. again, no need to talk down to me.
In DOOM, I can progress my character by gaining extra armour and extra weapons, but DOOM is definitely not an RPG. it HAS an RPG, but it isn’t an RPG, it’s a FPS.
What is this about, you want the credit for knowing stuff?
here is an internet point. spend it wisely. -> (+1 internet point)
I used to back in the day. Now not so much
Seeing as you’re so knowledgeable I didn’t see the need to fully explain what advancement and progression meant.
I’m not talking down to you, you’re the one that’s assumed that position, all I’m doing is correcting your mistaken interpretation of my post.
Incidentally Fantasy RPG’s weren’t started with D&D in 1974 but in the late 60’s when wargame players started including fantasy elements into the wargaming, one of these players was Gary Gygax who of course went on to create the D&D game.
Good job on the research!!
here is another internet point. -> (+1 internet point)
Yes.

If I can grind another bunch I can queue for heroics.
